A continuing civilised and enjoyable discussion of all things relating to Endgame. Please keep posts on topic - I do not want to have to invoke Ross Gellar again!

Well I’ve just spent some time on there they say exactly what they think no holds barred, they go for the jugular! There are some very quick witted people who really had me laughing! I will venture back as it’s very entertaining!

garlicandsapphires · 15/12/2023 00:11

Not all of tattle is bad but the Harry and Meghan threads are vile, and absolutely deranged!!

Chouxpastryishard · 15/12/2023 00:50

They’re horrible. Slagging off her appearance and just really nasty.

PrinceHarryAntoinette · 15/12/2023 02:16

To be fair there are threads on mumsnet slagging off appearances of the royal women so not sure mumsnet can claim the moral high ground on that front.

Agreed. I asked for a tattle code recently as a someone was talking about it. I’m glad I didn’t get one as the threads on H&M are completely horrid. And I’m not a great fan of them and I was shocked.

As Harry was so protected and we now see a different side to him, it stands to reason the same could be true of all the major players in the RF.

CauliflowerCheese30 · 15/12/2023 07:16

I ignore any of that stuff, and any talk about the kids, and sometimes I take a break from it.

They haven’t done a particularly good job on Prince Andrew in later years- his own fault.

Princess Anne has only in the last few years become a ‘treasure’ the press hated her when she was younger. I remember some scathing stuff from growing up.

The press (while she was alive) weren’t particularly kind to Diana either. I’m only a couple of years younger than Diana and frankly they were awful.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 15/12/2023 07:40

Interesting that The Crown shows Harry in the Nazi uniform. I wonder if they thought when they did a deal with Netflix that they could influence production?

To me this is further proof that Netflix knows that H&M need Netflix rather than Netflix needing them.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/12/2023 07:47

Did they show W&C encouraging him the wear it, was per his claim in Spare?

No, Kate tells him to remove the Swastika and William says “that’s the joke” or something

Tbh the whole scandal is treated as a bit of a joke which is annoying but Harry comes off awfully. They try to pin the blame on the people that took the photos but Harry is such a rotter it doesn’t work.

Their approach to Princess Anne turned round overnight. There was a fascinating tv programme about royal reporting that talked about it. She was at the peak of her Princess Sourpuss phase, having been rude to a few reporters, and so when she went on a big trip to Africa with Save The Children the papers decided to send some reporters (at vast expense) to follow her round and hopefully catch her being obnoxious and get some front pages out of it. The trip goes on, she doesn’t put a foot wrong, she is mucking in, digging latrines and generally being jolly and pleasant, the hacks are despairing at the lack of a story. And then one of them realises- THAT’S the story! Princess Anne secretly a good sort!

Obviously it’s not been plain sailing since but yes they can and do switch overnight. The thing that gets me is how people forget. When the queen died I had arguments with a few people who insisted she had always been adored but I really don’t remember that in the 80s when she was middle aged, I think her popularity grew after she aged and moved into the granny role.

Diana got it in the neck when she was young and hanging out with Fergie as well as after her marriage broke down. There was also the idea of her as a thick airhead Sloane which when you look back is appallingly misogynistic.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/12/2023 07:57

That's interesting, @cauliflowerwaterfall thank you. I seem to recall one of the commentators saying that Harry's initial reaction to the story getting out was not shame, but annoyance that his privacy was being violated. Could have been Tom Bower, I gather a lot of the Crown is based on books he has written.

Yeah like with everything he thought the problem was the press reporting it not him doing it.

It wasn’t just a silly scandal either:

Harry's Nazi gaffe 'triggered anti-Semitic incidents' | UK news | The Guardian

Prince Harry's decision to attend a fancy dress party in Nazi uniform triggered 10 anti-Semitic incidents last year, a report on violence against the Jewish community said today.

Remember that The Crown is fiction....

But I think it is relevant in showing that Netflix aren't giving any special treatment to Harry. He came across badly in RL too about the Nazi costume, at the time and again later.

It's not that it's impossible to joke - but that was fancy dress for a party, not Herr Flick (proper comedy/ridicule)

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 15/12/2023 08:04

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel yes the Queen wasn’t popular when Diana died or after the Windsor castle fire. Other times as well. I spent most of 80’s on the lash so a lot is a blur 🙈

Yeah but it’s not just him being portrayed badly it’s him being portrayed the worst. And even more unforgivably to Harry, portraying William quite well.

By the way I set up a thread for spoilers:

I think you'll get more responses to a thread about the telly series in "Telly Addicts" - IMO there's only a limited cross-over to those who like to natter about the royals.

Too many inaccuracies instances of dramatic licence for it to be taken seriously. It's only really relevant to this thread because of the Archewell deal with the same platform

“They [the Sussexes] are thrashing around like a fish out of water,” the source said. “The team doesn’t appear to know what to do at this point. The consensus now is to try and repair the damage done to the Royal Family and hope that link will help them out of the doldrums.”

Interesting article in the Daily Express yesterday. The RF and their advisors are looking wiser and wiser for refusing to engage with Harry on any level.

I wonder if the King realises or suspects that the only reason Harry has been trying to get back in his good books is because the Harkles' career prospects are looking so grim that their PR agents have advised them to get back in with the RF, in the hope that that will rescue them? If what this article says is true, then they really are despicable.

Harry and Meghan convinced Royal Family behind vendetta blocking brand deals

EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are convinced that the Royal Family are behind a vendetta waged against them which has seen them lose several lucrative deals, according to a source.

Not sure about the accuracy of that article. The Queen did wear Dior to France but originally that visit was scheduled earlier in the year so I think the timings were a coincidence rather than Dior turning from one person to another. Often the press make connections where none exist.

Cosywintertime · 15/12/2023 08:50

Wonder what’s delayed their crimbo card. I can only assume that they have thought better of what they were going to put out there, so possibly it was the queen, ..

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/12/2023 08:53

Dior tweeted about Harry's suit that he wore for the Coronation, and I think he was flashing a Dior label at one of his court appearances. I think that's probably the only connection with the Sussexes. I very much doubt the RF will have had any influence on the matter at all - and if they did, they wouldn't be choosing an actress playing one of them in the Crown, which they must detest!

Edited

I think as soon as the Xmas at sandringham leaked it was obvious they were trying to get back in with the royals. And been obvious for awhile they have nothing going on.

however very typical not to understand that no one wants to deal with them as they are so contentious and poison for a brand, due to their behaviour, and instead believe it is some vendetta against them, and they think it’s the palace or Camilla doing it.

quite frankly I’d not blame the palace if they were, but there is no way they are, simply brands are making a point they don’t wish to be associated with them.

Exactly. There is no way, but in their victim mindset they won’t understand they are the issue. They think someone else is to blame.

Cosywintertime · 15/12/2023 08:56

Also suspect Dior is not happy they publicly lied about a deal, and they were forced to deny.
