A continuing civilised and enjoyable discussion of all things relating to Endgame. Please keep posts on topic - I do not want to have to invoke Ross Gellar again!

Do other celebrity American Foundations release videos? Is it the norm?

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 12/12/2023 13:49

And Harry wanted William to split the Duchy income with him . Again , no .

Was he prepared to take on a share of the work of managing the Duchy?

TheCrystalPalace · 12/12/2023 13:54

On what grounds did Harry ask for the Duchy of Cornwall funds to be split with him?

Yes they do. I only googled briefly but the Obama Foundation have a YouTube channel. I think it's the way that American foundations do things. I suppose they have to attract doners somehow.

thebellagio · 12/12/2023 13:59

So I've just watched the video.

As someone who works in PR, it doesn't say anything?

What does the foundation do? Who has it supported? How much has it raised/donated? Who has helped and what has been the impact of the support from Archwell?

I don't get it?

thebellagio · 12/12/2023 14:00

It's supposed to be the 2023 impact video, but there's literally no impact detailed?

I can’t remember where I read it however I think it was down to Harry expecting to be treated the same as William .

TheCrystalPalace · 12/12/2023 14:03

But Diana had nothing to do with the Duchy?

Mylovelygreendress · 12/12/2023 14:05

TheCrystalPalace · 12/12/2023 14:03

But Diana had nothing to do with the Duchy?

Indeed however Diana was insistent that the boys be treated the same . As a mother I can understand that however William was always going to have the Top Job .

News reports are 2 million generated by 2 anonymous donors with staffing costs of over 600000. Not sure what happened to the Spare pledge.

ArcaneWireless · 12/12/2023 14:20

It made an impact on me.

No matter how many times someone tells you something, it doesn’t mean it is true.

It can still be utter pish. 🌱

The only thing that has been restored is hair.

And even that looked dodgy.

Truth right there. 🌱

ArcaneWireless · 12/12/2023 14:28

It may be pure speculation @Cottonsockkitty but it would explain an awful lot. 🌱

Apparently there was an accompanying 23 page document highlighting their significant contributions to various causes!

God it was a cringe fest.

Having spent all my career in marketing I find these two beyond comprehension. Then factor in their professional PR advice it’s even more difficult to understand. I can only conclude they don’t listen to anyone other than each other.

H&M's vast wealth, if invested wisely and privately, can sustain them for the rest of their lives in a high level of comfort and security. But, for all their complaints about intrusion into their private lives, they want a public profile as do gooders and societal change makers, because this opens doors in Hollywood and in politics. They don't have enough wealth for a foundation to achieve these aims, so their only path is pay to play philanthropy, which ultimately makes them look shallow.

They would be better off building a fortune through investment and then, down the line, setting up a real, functioning and run by experts foundation, or their own production company. They won't, because they want everything now, they want the magazine covers and adulation while they are still young and considered beautiful and popular. Their "philanthropy" is to get the adulation they crave, not to do good for others, and they want a short cut to the big stages, not a considered learning journey towards a goal they deserve though hard work. They can't abide seeing W&C getting the attention they think they also deserve, so the retaliatory pap walks and appearances, tacky and desperate as they are, are not going to stop, even though people are literally screaming a them to stop for their own good.

It is amusing to watch as it's so obvious. The Royal Household must be thinking ' give it 24 hrs.... and there it is' .
So predictable and rather pathetic.

Well said, @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar

Impatience + entitlement is their hallmark.

If they'd had the brains and maturity to suck it up and wait until the queen died before "stepping away from the royal family" they'd be 1,000 times better off now in terms of reputation.

I mean, would it have been SO difficult to ignore the tabloids, raise their young family in untold luxury at Frogmore, perform the very light duties required of them, and, in Meghan's case, learn and assimilate rather than pre-emptively deciding to judge and change?

Five years after their marriage and with the kids nearing school age, they would have been solidly grounded as senior royals, in a much better position to negotiate any sort of half-in situation or just make a subtle move to the USA without a public strop, and probably a lot wealthier. If Harry hadn't been such an ass, Charles would be more inclined to share what he's inherited from HMQ.

Instead they couldn't control themselves, had to jump the gun and make fools of themselves with their flounce and their now rather empty and ineffectual lives turning off the people in the UK and in America who might have taken an interest in facilitating their aims.

Just such fools, throwing it all away with two hands, when a little self-control and patience would have made immense difference.

😁😁😁😁😁

I tried to keep an open mind when looking at the Archewell report - but so much waffle, and then you get to the end and see how few people they actually claim to have helped.

Yes, worthwhile things often do start in a small way - the Prince's Trust had quite small beginnings - but the Archewell fanfare is out of all proportion to the achievement.

thebellagio · 12/12/2023 14:47

I agree @friendlycat As a fellow Marcomms professional, everyone knows that you NEVER assume that someone will read the accompanying material, if the video doesn't stand up on it's own merits and tell a story, it's not worth having.

In comparison, the Kate video clearly showcase the charity, what they do, who they help, what the impact is of that help, who is supported by the charity, what it's mission is and how they are being innovative in their help.

In short, the Kate video highlights the charity. The M&H video highlights them.

IMO, this comes back yet again to the misunderstanding of the American PR people working with H&M who really don't understand that the role of the Royal family is to shine a light on good causes, and raise the profile of charities/community groups. It's about those charities raising the profile of the royal family.

The Sussexes have a released their charity's annual report and a glitzy promotional film showing their good works in 2023 - but it has also emerged that its finances have dived. An income tax return filed on the US revealed today that in 2022 donations were down to just over $2million (£1.6m) - down from $12.9million (£10.3m) in 2021, an astonishing drop of $11million (£8.7m). And 2021's profit of $9million (£7.1m) has evaporated due to a lack of donations.

The Archewell Foundation recorded a loss of $674,485 (£536,357) for last year because revenue was $2million but costs were $2.67million. Last year there were only two major donors giving around $1million (£795,210) each. The year before an unidentified wealthy donor gave them $10million but there was no repeat this year.

The Foundation employed five people in 2022, with salaries totaling $640,441 (£509,285) for the year. Harry and Meghan did not take a salary but executive director James Holt, considered the Sussexes' right-hand man since Megxit was paid $227,405-a-year ($180,835), including a $20,000 (£15,904) bonus.

Love or hate the Mail, they do the reading of the report so we don't have too.
