Meghan Markle's childhood and looks

Following on from the threads about the Princess of Wales, which have provided ample opportunity for discussion and comment, it seems only right to open up a similar discussion about Meghan Markle.

Let's start with her childhood. Do people think it was the way Thomas Markle raised her as a white single dad that led to the development of her personality?

And what about her looks? How does she manage to keep her legs so lovely and slim?

Thank you. I've just had a phone call about an old friend who is in hospital with something that makes my chest and nose seem a bit silly. I need to woman up.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 12/12/2023 19:02

Oh I am sorry to hear that. It's ok to feel awful though when you are sick, I really hope your friend gets better soon too.

Roussette · 12/12/2023 19:07

Fingers x'd @Iwasafool it clears up for Christmas. Flowers

Daisyislazy · 12/12/2023 19:44

I think she's very attractive, in terms of her personality I would imagine, like the rest of us, lots of things contributed to it

You need a wee hot toddy

Iwasafool · 12/12/2023 19:49

Well I think. I'm jinxed now so OK I'll stop moaning about my cold and my nose (being able to blow your nose when you have a cold isn't much to ask is its)

Decided to open some Christmas cards that arrived earlier and another old friend letting us know DH has had a stroke and is paralysed down one side

I'm not feeling very Christmassy at the moment and we are trying to work out a plan to do some visits but they are 200 miles away and we have people arriving for Christmas at the weekend. I think it is going to be 2024 before we can sort it which feels a bit rotten to be honest. Although realistically no one is going to want this cold and the sight of me would probably scare them.

I'm tee total, not sure I could manage it.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 12/12/2023 19:58

Oh no, god what a lot of sad news to get when you feel so awful too @Iwasafool I have been trying to help a friend today who is unwell and now dealing with an abusive husband. Life can be hard can't it, maybe a nice relaxing bath would make you feel better :)

LunaNorth · 12/12/2023 20:57

I have the resources and time to devote to good nutrition, regular exercise, great skincare, regular hair appointments and even the odd light aesthetic treatment.

I look like the back end of a bus, especially compared to those two. It always makes me laugh when I see them referred to as ‘ordinary looking’ on here.

Christ knows where some of you live. On a street full of modelling agencies?

Iwasafool · 13/12/2023 10:07

God only knows what my neighbours think of my style and appearance. The bins had to go out this morning so I trotted out in pyjamas, slippers, a cardigan and unbrushed hair. It's a good job I didn't marry royalty I really would have tarnished the image. I have to say it is a very nice cashmere cardigan if that redeems me.

I think this infection has pushed me into the mad old lady who wear purple mindset and I think I like it.

Roussette · 13/12/2023 12:52

I love cashmere, but we are a bit moth-y here, whatever I do to combat it and there's nothing worse than a beautiful soft cashmere cardi with a hole in it!

Ahh so this thread is just another bash Meghan thread

Only if that's what people post. I'm seeing a lot of positive comments and a lot of thread policing, but next to nothing that is critical.

Unless you count as bashing the idea that the full regime of a woman in certain public roles (actor, singer, working royal have been mentioned on this thread) can elevate someone's appearance to be more (insert preferred adjective - beautiful? photogenic? glamorous? eye-catching? groomed?) than those in roles where looks are less important.

There's a lot of posts which say that

WinnieTheW0rm · 14/12/2023 08:55

I think the middle dress made her look a lot wider than she really is, and that there isn't that much difference between the ones at each side (once you've allowed for angle and lighting)

The black dress is lovely - don't remember seeing that pic before

MaturingCheeseball · 14/12/2023 09:54

Obviously she is very attractive - otherwise she wouldn’t have turned the head of Prince Harry!

I agree about people saying Meghan - and Catherine on the other thread - are just average. My eyes are rolling at 360 degrees. Where are all these women 50 to 100% better looking than they are?! Not round these parts, that’s for sure.

pilates · 14/12/2023 09:58

Yes, both are certainly not average looking 😀

Gingerboy22 · 14/12/2023 10:21

Yes I agree.

A hole was probably the least of my carid's problems with my Worzel Gummidge hair (needs cutting but wasn't even brushed) face full of cold sores and my non matching pyjamas (couldn't be bothered to find a matching top and bottom)

I've finished the antibiotics now and feel vaguely human so I've had a shower and washed my hair. I might not frighten passing children today.

I think my main accomplishment of 2023 is surviving the last 3 weeks.

Roussette · 14/12/2023 12:32

@Iwasafool Do hope those antibios have seen off that horrible bug!

Thank you. I'm not sure to be honest. It hasn't completely gone but it is loads better so not sure if my body can do the rest or if I will need more. I dread the fight to get them, took me three days of going round and round with surgery then 111 then back to surgery and so it went on. I just feel so exhausted and washed out I don't know if I have it in me.

I have managed to finish wrapping presents and writing Christmas cards. I've also cleaned the bathroom but the rest of the house is a disaster area and probably a bio hazard. I'd really like to go to bed and wake up next year but don't think I can. I'm my husband's carer and I haven't even sorted out lunch yet so the level of care isn't great. I think I might get fish and chips delivered for dinner as the thought of cooking is beyond me. We've been pretty well living on takeaways.

I keep thinking of a 70 year old woman in Gaza feeling like this while being homeless and starving. Breaks my heart.

Roussette · 14/12/2023 14:41

Oh @Iwasafool that sounds so so tricky. There is nothing worse than fatigue. Not 'one night slept bad' type tiredness, but actual fatigue. Poor you.

Just grab naps if the occasion arises, easy for me to say I know, I imagine that's not easy.
Fingers crossed for you. 💐

Iwasafool · 14/12/2023 16:32

Thanks. We had a gourmet lunch, crackers and cheese! Very exciting. I am now lying on the sofa like Lady Muck. I seem to be either in bed or on the sofa with very short periods in the kitchen. I've got about ten days I think to get over it and have Christmas. Fingers crossed. My Sainsbury's order is in so we will have food, DD will be here with her family so if the worst comes to the worst SIL will be cooking Christmas dinner, DD might help him 😛

Roussette · 14/12/2023 16:52

Get those kids working! I intend to! (if they aren't doing it themselves, they're bossing me about anyway Grin)

Did you have to jump through hoops to get them? Hope not.
