I don't think William and Kate adore each other.

I think that they have a realistic relationship, that they are as a pp said aware of each others flaws. That is marriage, it has it's ups and downs and isn't fairytale easy.

And this is where I actually feel for Meghan. I do think Harry adores her, I do think he has elevated her to be more than human, and frankly this is a difficult position to be in. She isn't his mother or saviour, and the pressure to be perfect must be immense.

FinallyFinalGirl · 08/12/2023 22:06

Thanks @Getthethrowonthesofa. He can't have loved it that much - wild horses wouldn't keep me from going to my favourite place on earth (in the mountains).

He maybe just wanted an escape and any escape would do.

parksandrecs · 08/12/2023 22:07

I think it would be wonderful initially to be adored - but then it would stop you being yourself. And that would endup being crushing. None of us are perfect, and when the only way forward is to say we and our partner are perfect?

I don't know how the people in the RF can just stand there and let their fellow human beings now and curtsy to them. Princess Anne came to my workplace and I was in a line to greet her but didn't curtsy. I shook her hand. I was the only one. She didn't seem to mind.

FinallyFinalGirl · 08/12/2023 22:13

Bow and curtsy!

parksandrecs · 08/12/2023 22:18

I don't get the feeling they mind about whether people bow/curtsey? As you say, she didn't seem to mind?

cauliflowerwaterfall · 08/12/2023 22:19

Harry probably does love Africa but I can’t think of anything worse optics than him doing a white saviour documentary on it

Well no, it’s not compulsory to bow or curtsy to the Royals. But equally some people feel the need to do so. So what are the RF supposed to do? Tell them to stand up straight and not be so silly? That would be rather rude

FinallyFinalGirl · 08/12/2023 22:23

Mmmnnn...you make a good point Smilesy! She was very lovely to talk to and knew more about my company than I did!

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 08/12/2023 22:25

If he hadn’t used the African tour where they represented the queen to announce their intent to sue the press, which was highly disrespectful to his hosts.

if he hadn’t been rude to journalists covering it, one asked him why they were there and he said ask them , nodding to the local visitors and got back in the car, instead of explaining the cause.

And M whinged that nobody asked how she was, making it all about her, instead of focusing on the actual purpose of the visit.

No, she was no different to me than anyone else. She smiled from her eyes which surprised me. She seemed genuinely interested. But I don't know how much of that is experience from being in the public eye and photographed.

He could maybe do one about stopping poaching. That would go down well. Or big cat trophy hunting.

cauliflowerwaterfall · 08/12/2023 22:36

I hope he makes something that was on his list of ideas for Spotify that was brilliant haha

If this was a story it would be unbelievable. How do they not see their privilege.

LeggyLegsEleven · 08/12/2023 23:19

I think she believed fame/popularity would trump succession.

Somehow I don’t think he’s the best person to front that campaign.

Could really have done without that dead animal photo. Hope it gave you some sick thrill to post it without a trigger warning.

Please ask MNHQ to remove it.

It’s a very well known photo of Harry. It’s distasteful but compared with what we see on the news every day hardly that shocking .

The trouble is, I genuinely think she wants to be adored and put on a pedestal. It seems to me that she has spent her entire life acting . Even in her personal life. She thrives on being watched, noticed, talked about and admired. Underneath that I don’t think there is very much substance at all. Being a prominent member of a very famous family must have seemed on the surface to be everything she ever craved. she didn’t however understand the concept of the duty and responsibility that came with the role.

My Swedish friend told me that when their current King ascended the throne, he changed the protocol so bowing and curtsying was no longer the done thing, thats all it would require, make a statement saying that it is no longer protocol. Some people might still do it but I would say you would make a lot more people feel like they didn't have to.

For example the Belgian royals explicitly state on their website that the correct way to greet them is with a handshake https://www.monarchie.be/en/monarchy/protocol

Harry's vision of 'Africa' (I don't think he has much understanding of the different countries or their different histories or cultures) is about being in the bush, seeing amazing animals, drinking beer in the evening and getting a rapturous reception when popping into children's schools. It is not really about what an actual life would look like and I agree it is tied up with nostalgia for Chelsey.

The Dutch publisher isn't happy with what Scobie wrote in his inews column

"The author used a newspaper column to say that the publisher was sent one version of his book to work on with the understanding that the translation would be updated for a final version.
But in a statement given to MailOnline the publisher disputed this, calling him out by saying he was 'factually incorrect'
A spokesman for the publisher Xander Uitgevers said: 'Omid Scobie's explanation in his column in iNews about the Dutch editorial process of the Dutch edition of Endgame is factually incorrect and we do not recognize ourselves in his representation of the events.
'Xander Uitgevers is not allowed to say anything about the content, we therefore refer to the agent UTA.'"

Dutch publishers of Omid Scobie's book Endgame hit back

EXCLUSIVE: In a statement given to MailOnline publishers Xander Uitgevers called Omid Scobie out by saying he was 'factually incorrect'.

So again another lie. 'factually incorrect' is pretty strong language in this context IMO.

And clearly lawyers are involved.

I hate liars. I hate people who fudge the facts to suit their own ends. I particularly detest people who blame everyone else around them for their own actions. I am not wishing ill things upon Scobie but he has tried to throw so many under the bus so I hope that whatever is the truth comes out. He needs to stop dissembling and weasling and just be straight.

EdithWeston · 09/12/2023 06:42

So it is possible that Scobie is still not giving the full truth, the Dutch publishers know (and probably have evidence of) a different chain of events; and "Xander Uitgevers is not allowed to say anything about the content, we therefore refer to the agent UTA" suggests there is some form of confidentiality agreement - that I'm ready to bet is industry standard for the commercial purpose of content not leaking ahead of publication, with circumstances like this never envisaged.

The Dutch publishing house and their professional translators have conducted themselves impeccably
