Can someone explain to me the procedure and how this works?

Totally agree @Sheepskinthrow

Sometimes it's very hard to google and find something you want to that H&M have said because it's just pages and pages of the worst of the media and their negative articles.
I can know I've read something and seen something... finding it is another matter!

And posters on here who want them to go away and saying that they are irrelevant.... errrmmmm, quite obviously not and you are keeping the narrative going by clicking on the articles, writing about them etc.

Serenster · 10/12/2023 14:30

virtually every single thing we “think” we know about them, has first been funnelled through, and skewed by, a writer in the pay roll of Murdoch or Rothermere.

Except for what they have told us themselves directly in Oprah, Spare, a six part Netflix documentary, The Me You Don’t See, the many hours of Archetypes podcasts, the Dax Shepard podcast, the awards they pick up, the magazine interviews they do, the interviews with Grayson Carter and twice with Tom Bradby, the Ellen DeGeneres show…. And then there’s all the things they want us to know via Omid Scobie in Finding Freedom, Endgame and all his other content. Plus what’s been disclosed in their many court cases and said in evidence in those.

So no, I don’t accept that in the slightest.

But hardly anyone comments quotes directly from those interviews, books or podcasts. What we largely hear is opinions about opinions about opinions.

Serenster · 10/12/2023 14:33

These threads are full of posters quoting directly from those sources.

Hughs · 10/12/2023 14:35

I think it’s often forgotten on here, when there are so many negative about H&M , that virtually every single thing we “think” we know about them, has first been funnelled through, and skewed by, a writer in the pay roll of Murdoch or Rothermere.

This may once have been true, but we now have Spare and the Netflix doc, multiple interviews, and at least the first Scobie book, if not the second.
I also think it's a bit naive to think they are not constantly leaking to the press.

Hughs · 10/12/2023 14:36

Oh whoops, crosspost with @Serenster

Sheepskinthrow · 10/12/2023 14:38

Serenster · 10/12/2023 14:21

Does nobody think it’s slightly strange that this golden nugget from the late Queen found its way in to evidence at this convenient moment?

Not at all. It found its way into evidence because Harry’s legal team filed an application to essentially ask the court to hold that the Mail On Sunday has no arguable defence to his libel claim against it. Both sides get to file a witness statement attaching relevant documents - Harry when filing his application and the MoS when responding to it. So when the court hears the application, it has the evidence it needs in front of it. And the court process are open, so the press can see and write about that evidence.

If not for Harry deciding to sue the Mail on Sunday, we would never have seen this.

Fair enough. This is interesting thank you Serenster I still think it’s worth asking the question. As I said before, judges can only rule on the evidence before them.

This is wide side step but it reminded me of when her late Majesty suddenly “remembered” certain “facts” in the Paul Burrell trial the night before he was due to appear in the witness box. All very odd!

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 14:39

My own negative opinion of Harry and Meghan come straight from their own mouths. It also comes directly from their actions. It also comes from thinking for myself.

They are a money spinner for news outlets but much of it (pap walks, award ceremonies, catastrophic car chases etc) are of their own making. They really come across as ricocheting from disaster to disaster like an out of control pin ball machine.

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 14:39

As such it is very entertaining!

parksandrecs · 10/12/2023 14:40

There is a lot of information that they have put into the public domain directly. Not always with consistency, but directly and straight to camera - bieng filmed by the people of their choice.

AliceOlive · 10/12/2023 14:48

Everything opinion I have stems from their statements, interviews, documentary, book, website, testimony, other public actions.

There is ample material @Sheepskinthrow
You are surely aware of these many first hand sources?

You’d be surprised how few people bother to quote directly from the books, statements or podcasts AliceOlive . When you read or listen to the sources directly - and not just snippets or quotes taken out of context - it’s surprising how mild they are compared to the hullabaloo made up about them!

You see it happening on this very thread here and now!

The “Taliban” paragraph is often repeated inaccurately and out of context.

And posters are also saying how hypocritical it is of them to have stepped back “for privacy” and then published books, recorded podcasts and broadcast interviews. But in reality they never, ever, said anywhere that they were stepping back to have a more private life. That falsehood was put about by Dickie Arbiter.

They retreated overseas because of the racist undertones of many of the comments , the briefings against them, the incitement of hatred by well known broadcasters with huge followings. And this seems understandable to me when you’ve watched your mother suffer sImilar abuse for many years and ultimately die under the lenses of the paparazzi. Of course he wants to protect his wife and children from that!

It’s like everyone has collectively forgotten the Piers ranting, the chimpanzee cartoon, and Jeremy Clarkson’s hideous invective. Very conveniently forgotten! What sane person would not want to bump up security having read those articles about them?

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 15:13

@Sheepskinthrow No one would ever defend comments that you mention. They didn't at the time are aren't now. By the same measure though, Harry and Meghan said many dreadful things, and tried to orchestrate a hate campaign against the RF.

Hughs · 10/12/2023 15:15

This all sounds so reasonable until you remember that they have "retreated" to work in the media / entertainment industry in America, where racism is worse, paparazzi are worse, the press is more polemical and constitutionally free, where they need exposure in the media in order to earn a living, but no longer have the protection of RF security and PR management.

Well said. There was so much rhetoric about Spare by people who readily admitted they'd never read it!

And talking of hideous invective, the threat against them was very real...the Met Police Head of Terrorism confirmed so in an interview
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex faced "credible threats" from far-right extremists, the Met Police's former head of counterterrorism has said

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 15:23

There was never going to be a retreat into a quiet private life in Canada. For starters it's bloody cold there. The plan was always an A list lifestyle part funded by the British taxpayer, lucrative media deals and by association with the RF. if they had genuinely wanted a quiet life out of the limelight where armed protection wasn't needed, why flee to Hollywood. Bonkers. If ever there was a half baked plan this was it.

rosyglowcondition · 10/12/2023 15:26

Frankly by criticising right wing politics in America via their attempts to muzzle free speech, they are putting themselves in far more danger than they would ever experience here. The threat from right wing extremism is long in the past and not current. If it was they would have protection when they were here. A point that's been made many times.

I don't think they needed to go abroad even. Wales or Scotland, Harry farming alpacas or conserving beavers or something, Meghan running her blog, writing the odd children's book and doing the odd bit of acting, helping out a couple of charities, popping up on Children in Need and at ceremonial events and sports internationals, lovely. Maybe open a luxury hotel nearby and make it a destination for A listers.

No it’s much easier to live in certain areas of the USA as someone who is in the public eye. Schools have underground passages where you can drop off and pick up your children in private, restaurants have back entrances, shops allow you to visit at special times or brings items to you. Wealth isn’t a dirty word in the USA, so they make provision for it.

For someone who critiques others for not using the couple themselves as sources, it's odd that you ignore their verbose, rambling 'manifesto', wherein they expressed their eagerness to 'collaborate with the queen' and mentioned nothing at all about the above.

stillavid · 10/12/2023 15:49

Case by case seems sensible but I thought I read (so may well be wrong) that the reason Harry wasn't keen on this was because quite a bit of notice of visits was required.

You said they retreated because of racism, paparazzi and the press. All of those things are much worse in America than they are here. Plus restaurants and clubs have private entrances here, shops close to the public for rich people and we have personal shoppers and deliveries also. Believe it or not there are a few very rich and very famous people who manage to live in the UK just fine.

yes great post @Sheepskinthrow 95% of the posts about them on this board aren't based on what they've actually said or done, they're based on things read in the press and what people think their intentions are. I find it amusing people claim otherwise when there is ample evidence before us.

Did you not read there statements at the start of 2020 ?? They never wanted to leave . They wanted half in half out .
Does this have to be repeated every day?
