I'm not sure what is the correct etiquette for carrying on a thread, but here we are. Thanks to @BoxedandRibboned for the original thread.

Really? I don't know how who they are talking about

This was the message I had….

Hi there,
Thanks, but given this is all over the internet and in newspapers now we think we'd struggle to keep this particular cat in the bag.
Best,
Hope
MNHQ

@PurplePansy05 I have read your posts several times and can't make sense of them

Hmm. OK. Not sure what to say to that, sorry if I make no sense to you? 🤣

thebellagio · 29/11/2023 22:02

I mean piers has a point. When it’s all over the internet, it’s insane to try and keep the names hidden, it’s like the Ryan Giggs situation..,

but also I think the general response from the public is a) what a hatchet job scobie has done, b)what a pair of dicks H&M are, and c) ffs it’s old news, I don’t think this is the “gotcha” moment it would have been two years ago,

plus now, they can draw a line under it and hopefully move on

wordler · 29/11/2023 21:56

Pointing out there is content elsewhere on the internet which may contain libelous content isn't itself defamatory.

Posting a link might be a grey area, but in this particular situation no MN poster is in danger of being hauled into court by anyone over this story.

I agree! But the poster also repeated the names, which probably isn't a good idea.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 29/11/2023 22:07

I'm not sure it was ever a gotcha moment.

Everyone wonders how genetics will pan out and which side of the family they will look like.

PokeyLaFarge · 29/11/2023 22:07

Can...worms...open....

Bookworm1111 · 29/11/2023 22:08

thebellagio · 29/11/2023 21:56

I reported someone earlier for naming them, questioning whether it was libellous, and the response I had from MN was that the names were widely known across the internet so they weren’t going to take any action,

MN won't take down libellous posts because it's the individual poster who gets sued, not them! But yes, it's v. v. unlikely anyone is getting into trouble. I just don't think anyone should say the names if they can help it.

Oh I agree. I’m deliberately not mentioning names because I don’t want to put myself at risk.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/11/2023 22:12

I don't think it's much of a gotcha moment at all - there are probably some royals who people would have been going "I can see them being racists assholes" and it would have done serious damage. This pair? Really not seeing it having much impact unless H&M suddenly produce some iron clad evidence of heavy duty racism.

But also one of the key points to prove libel is that you can prove significant damage to your reputation as would be understood by the average ordinary person. At this point its clear that the majority of online comment is not showing a significant damage to anyone named reputation.

Also there's a lot of grey area around what has actually been said and alleged - Omid could argue that he'd not called anyone a racist - he'd discussed the identity of someone who had a conversation with another person that a third party considered to be unconscious racial bias.

Vespanest · 29/11/2023 22:16

For the names to have a real impact it had to come directly from Harry and Meghan with context. This is gossip from a bloke many don’t take seriously who already has the finding freedom debacle. Its took what may or may not have been a serious incident to the tabloid gossip level of information, that soiled all in question including the author and publisher.

miri1985 · 29/11/2023 22:22

Is anyone here involved in book publishing? Am I right to assume that the translator has an editor/proofreader who checks their work and presumably checks it against the original provided by the author.

What I'm more curious about is who relayed the information that Archie/imagined future baby was being talked about to H&M and what was their agenda? According to the English version of Endgame neither Harry or Meghan was present when this was discussed so are hearing it second hand

If his description of the letters between Charles and Meghan is accurate (and indeed even the fact there were letters) who did he get that from? Doubt it was Charles

How does he know the other named person has avoided the issue with Meghan, because I doubt very much that it was the other person, and no-one other than Meghan (and perhaps Harry as a spouse might be completely aware) could possibly know that for sure

Even if not blabbing directly to Omid specifically for Endgame, they're talking to third parties at some point.

Vespanest · 29/11/2023 22:46

I think it’s been known within the circles for some time, a few have said they already known. It also coincides with the nickname the Sussex squad gave to the second name (this does feel stupid not using names) which was around 2021/2022 that it became a common hashtag

PurplePansy05 · 29/11/2023 22:49

This is all very Lord Voldemort-esque, "You-Know-Who" or "S/He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named"! We even have a Harry in the centre of it all!

Didn’t Gina Ford sue MN, not the individual poster who made the rockets comment?

I’d give up worrying if I were you. There’s a whole other thread gleefully discussing if the two openly named (on that thread) are racist or not 😆

Reading that one it’s probably better to stick to those who can’t be named. At least these two threads have had a good run.

twined · 30/11/2023 02:27

I can’t believe the number of people that take an accusation as fact.

I think it’s interesting that in US there is a presumption of innocence and also less strict libel laws.

Medlady · 30/11/2023 04:18

If I were one of those two this morning, I’d be feeling relieved . After two years of this being held over them , it’s out at last and no-one but the hardcore Sussex Squad thinks anything but that they were chatting about what the baby would look like

Sisterpita · 30/11/2023 05:43

@twined as far as I know the UK it’s innocent until proven guilty despite the kangaroo court actions of the media.

Medlady · 30/11/2023 05:54

Actually it has occurred to
me that in naming ‘the Princess of Wales’, OS meant Camilla, given that QEII was still alive at the time of these conversations, and that the book-writing started before she died, and that it is an older draft that seems to have made its way to the Dutch

Bookworm1111 · 30/11/2023 06:29

Piers Morgan makes me so nauseous with his grandstanding. All he's done is let Omid Scobie, PH and MM off the hook and made himself the story. Those three can now argue that they never intended the names to come out, so don't blame us, etc etc. The Palace is now bringing in lawyers though – good.

Yes she did, hence their new policy to let individual posters be responsible!

@smilesy Yep, saw that thread. I'm still not rushing to bandy the names myself because it's bloody awful they are being accused with no proof given.
