I'm not sure what is the correct etiquette for carrying on a thread, but here we are. Thanks to @BoxedandRibboned for the original thread.

What I would like to know, is do Sussex fans like the book because it trashes various royals, or dislike the book because it has clearly made H&M look bad?

I would expect some of them to say that "it is the same old stuff that has been dredged up for years " but that in this case it is very relevant 😂

FromEden · 28/11/2023 17:51

As an aside, where are all the h&m cheerleaders on this thread to defend this book?

Two threads on the subject and…………tumbleweed.

wordler · 28/11/2023 19:33

Does he say he’s ‘seen’ the letters or that he knows about them - it’s possible that a third party has discussed the letters with Meghan and then revealed that to Scobie - (similar to the five friend who all knew about Meghan’s letter to her father) in which case he’s on dodgy ground as he can’t be sure the content is actually true.

mrsmingleton · 28/11/2023 19:34

Surely an image of the Dutch page will come out somewhere online?

I would imagine they're sat on a very uncomfortable spiky fence not entirely sure which way to jump.

Two threads on the subject and…………tumbleweed.

I think they're focussing on making sure everyone makes a will.

MaturingCheeseball · 28/11/2023 19:36

I certainly agree that if there were any trust left, it’s now completely gone. Even if H&M wail to KC that they tried to stop the book/don’t approve etc etc, the information still came from somewhere… Unless the chauffeur accepted £100 from Omid Scobie (yeah, right) how was the latter to know that there was silence during the car journey? Eh?

I completely agree it is ok to call out offence.

It isn’t ok to clart almost a whole family (in public) with a slur that is unfairly sweeping (and therefore could be deeply damaging) and then retract it slightly with a mealie mouthed explanation of what they meant to say - long after the damaging insinuations/allegations.

Neither of them seem very reluctant to say their piece so why didn’t they address it? Why did they choose to drag his family through a media storm for something that he ended up saying wasn’t the case?

Shit or get off the pot as Barney would have said.

It is infinitely more damaging to make sweeping allegations than to state exactly who said what and in what context.

And not just to the RF by the way.

Having associated with this latest ‘ally’, H&M are going to be clarted with his slurs and observations. The debate will continue as to how much input they had.

The rumoured reconciliation is looking increasingly unlikely. Could it damage them (and their brand) going forward? Quite possibly. And for what?

A moment in the sun and having the world talk about them.

The folk that say all publicity is good publicity? I think they are mistaken.

I don't think there was a chauffeur, W drove and somehow I don't think he would have taken the £100 bung. 😂

There wasn't even a chauffeur though! William drove the four of them.

@wordler thank goodness my Dutch is up to par!

themessygarden · 28/11/2023 17:18

Shit, the RF are going to have to address it now, they can't grey rock this one!!!

What the hell has Harry done to one of his loved ones (not repeating the name, even if it is everywhere now).

No, they don't have to address it.

The policy of not commenting (that some have compared to grey rock) has served then extremely well throughout this, and I don't think they will depart from it at all.

MaturingCheeseball · 28/11/2023 19:55

No chauffeur? Then that eliminates one suspect!

Lunde · 28/11/2023 19:55

The book seems to be a template for misogyny

Shaming Camilla for having sex - hypocrisy after defending todgergate and the virginity stuff

Shaming Kate for spending time with her children - also hypocrisy given H's "generational pain" of his "cold" upbringing

and why is Kate responsible for Meghan's mental health? Harry was literally patron of a mental health charity at this time (Heads Together) so surely had some contacts he could call

Branflakesbreakfast · 28/11/2023 19:55

So Harry was the Royal racist that speculated about the baby's skin colour!!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 28/11/2023 19:55

The RF already commented: Recollections may vary. Nothing has changed since that statement. No new information has come out direct from the source (on record, anyway). H&M will be doing their best to say they had nothing to do with the book, so why would the RF feel the need to address a nobody/fantasist like Scobie (because that's all he is without showing the receipts).

Having said that, Tom Bower thinks the RF should address it head on, because he thinks MM will stick it all in a book eventually, and the longer the RF stay silent and don't deny the claims, the more damage she will do. I'm not sure I agree with that, but TB doesn't like King Charles' approach much and thinks he is weak.

Kate is got at for being too keen but also lazy.
Whatever she does is wrong!

ArcaneWireless · 28/11/2023 19:58

The policy of not commenting (that some have compared to grey rock) has served then extremely well throughout this, and I don't think they will depart from it at all.

If someone is going to speak shite then let them.

There are various sayings.

”Mark Twain — 'Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.'”

“Never wrestle with a pig because you'll both get dirty and the pig likes it." - George Bernard Shaw”

“Rumours are passed by haters, spread by fools, and believed by idiots. “

And now written by some it would seem.

And if some before were ‘complicit in their silence’?

That works both ways I think.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 28/11/2023 19:59

I would LOVE to know Kate/Wills/Charles ‘truth’ on these events. I do suspect it wouldn’t tally at all with what we’ve heard so far. At least they have the good grace to try to move on from what appears to be a very emotionally tricky situation for all involved.

I highly doubt Meghan or Harry are innocent angels in all of this. What they fail to recognise is that admiring you have faults and apologising for them is good and human. Pretending butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth is extremely childish.

It's tricky though - there is nothing that Scobie, Harry and Meghan would love more than getting the publicity of a spat with the RF - will keep them in the headlines, sell more books and get them on the talkshow circuit

I think they have been goading the RF all year with evermore outrageous tales, albeit contradictory stories - they are desperate for some engagement or response

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 28/11/2023 20:15

I totally agree @Lunde , staying quiet is the best and most dignified response, especially in the face of someone who has no reputation as a teller of truth in these matters. (Having said that, I have no diplomacy, if I was Catherine, I'd be chomping at the bit right now to say my piece).

I have a theory that TB has a lot of material on MM from his research into his book, Revenge, which he can't publish now, but might be able to, using the defence of "fair comment/public interest" if the RF did start answering back, and everything started kicking off.

OpenLanes · 28/11/2023 20:23

Interesting his apparent lack of understanding around genetics given his upbringing.

Sounds like he genuinely believes he's passed on a "strong" gene and doesn't realise that Megan will also be carrying the ginger gene recessively to have had fully ginger children.
If only Harry carried it the children could have only carried it recessively regardless of how 'strong' his gene was

EdithWeston · 28/11/2023 20:23

I saw an article (served up via Apple News and I can't remember where it came from originally) which was an interview with Scobie in which he said he was leaving Royal reporting.

Presumably because he has utterly no access to the rest of the royals because of closeness to H&M, but has with this book damaged that relationship too (they are trying to distance themselves, but no-one seems to believe that). So he's burnt his bridges.

Last shot is to avoid being sued. He relies on RF not to, as they just don't. But I think he's also giving a warning to H&M when he says he has more information which he is choosing not to publish.

Cloud9isnowclosed · 28/11/2023 20:23

@Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar If I was Catherine, I'd be performatively grinning at my next engagement but then I have the capacity on occasion to be petty af.... Thankfully, she appears to have more decorum and the RF - for very many reasons - are grateful she is in that role and I'm not...!

PurplePansy05 · 28/11/2023 20:33

I actually ordered this book now and will give my verdict (obviously subjective) after I read it. Half price on Amazon now. I'm curious to see what Scobie is really about and whether he is truly biased or if the British tabloid rags paint him as such. After all, they've mastered the art of vilifying and misrepresenting people more than any author ever has.

How many people on here have actually read it yet/are in progress?
