Hear me out - it reminded me of Eurovision (and I love Eurovision - literally trying to find tickets to get me to Malmo next year
for the semi finals) - it was kitsch, it was funny, it was slightly OTT and overly earnest but great start.

Well one of the performers for the closing ceremony will be Sam Ryder - came second in Eurovision. - so you might be on to something.

Well the clapping was undeniable however - we all know there will always be a way to spin his speech as a negative. He said something that I knew….yep- that’s the thing that they’ll latch onto and have just had a quick look in the press as to whether it’s been picked up before I go watch the Proms - and yep, so far, it’s been picked up but not yet wrung through the negativity lens yet. But just wait …..🤣

So (whispering - I followed Sam Ryder on TikTok way before he was on Eurovision and didn’t know he was out pick until. Like a month before because our pick haven’t usually done great so didn’t expect him - so was overly invested in him winning last year) - I think he’s a great pick for the closing.

If only he'd follow his own advice I think he'd be a happier person tbh.

He’s a lot happier now, you can see it. I think he had accepted how he was treated by the institution and he has the closure he was looking for.

He’s moving forward as he said previously. I’m glad. He’s made peace with his past and he’s back to doing what he does well.

So far, it appears there are no more than 3 posters who appear to have watched it (and enjoyed it), not sure if that translates to a resounding success. Will wait to see how it progresses for the rest of the games.

Well, Mumsnet and the Daily Fascist weren't the target audience were they. The Veterans were, and they seemed to have a fine time and received it in the spirit it was meant.

Judging by the reaction throughout and after the speech, Prince Harry’s speech was well received by veterans, military personnel, competitors, friends and families. He was speaking directly to them, not to us.

The the tabloids and naysayers need to take a seat. Their opinions don’t count.

Well Queen Elizabeth did it. It was reported that Charles recently did it. Many heads of state and politicians do it. So you must be pretty ‘ick-ed’ by now.

I’ve only watched that part (so far), as I’m in a different time zone and was asleep, but hoping to catch up with the rest of the opening ceremony at some point today. It was a good opening speech of Harry’s. I loved that he called out to Taira/Yuliia. It was lovely to see that’s she’s there. And also, he mentioned what Korean Veteran Na Hyeong-yoon ‘s said in the lead up to last years Games, that the Veterans are changing their perceptions of themselves. Invictus really is community.

I have just watched it and I agree - it was very well received by the veterans in the audience. It must be a nerve wracking thing to stand on stage and deliver that kind of speech - but I thought he hit just the right note.

'Your joy, your positivity benefit us all'. So true. Meanwhile his misery, bitterness and negativity bore everyone to tears.

Practise what you preach Harold. Be the positive determined person the vets strive to be.

They can't slag off Invictus too much, because it sounds like they are slagging off a veterans sporting event. So they just have blanket reporting of Mike Tindall making money out of his Royal connections- I mean his hilarious interview with his mother in law and his wife's cousin!
