Anyway - this is like playing chess with a pigeon.

Skullbabe - that does sound pretty sneery to me!

And...on these threads pps often claim that the RF makes us a laughing stock on the world stage, yet also are at pains to say how incredibly insignificant they are to the international audience.

I think they're totally insignificant on a political level (don't think Biden, Macron et al give them a second thought) but I think there's a lot of interest in other parts of the world. Not in highly sophisticated New York or Paris, perhaps, but among 'the common people' (like me) on a celebrity/soap/human level, definitely.

Spot on as usual with your posts @skullbabe

Something celebratory to look forward to (and perhaps to donate to too as it’s a fundraiser?)

It’s a good reminder that wars are still tragically raging across the world, generating tens of thousands of injured veterans, many of whom are recent conscripts who barely spent any time in the military before being sent to the frontline.

Those who seem incapable of seeing Invictus as anything other than another front in their hatred campaign against H&M would do well to remember that, and show some bl**dy respect!

"In December this year, I'll be leading a joint team of Ukrainian wounded and injured servicemen and British wounded and injured servicemen. Me being one of them.
"Two Brits and two Ukrainians, and we’re going to row across the Atlantic from Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean.
"We're raising money for the Invictus Games Foundation, and that is going to be refenced for Ukrainian service personnel rehabilitation."

Thanks Taller! It really does show the unique power of the Invictus Games

That is very true, and sobering. People are in these wars and need the supports. It's such a shame some countries leave their vets to wither.

That's a great way to raise money, and it's nice to see vets supporting one another.

I wonder how long it will take them to row across the Atlantic? (And if they'll be live streaming)

I'm not sure I'd agree they are insignificant politically. The government makes good use of them for soft diplomacy. A state visit is considered a bit of a treat. Do you remember the look on Trump's orange fat face when he had his state visit in 2018? He bloody loved it.

So they’ll be going from the Canaries to Barbados - just had a look - they’ll be following the route of the yearly Atlantic Boat Race and it looks like it will take about a month 😥.

Yes.

TallerSally · 19/02/2024 18:53

Well, hats off to them for what will be a HUGE endeavour!

Here it is getting some coverage on BBC News:

"The crew of two British and three Ukrainian men hope to raise awareness of those injured in the war in Ukraine.
Lee Spencer BEM has rowed the Atlantic twice since losing a leg and holds Guinness World Records for doing so.
Mr Spencer said: "We're doing it, first and foremost, to draw attention to the human cost of the war."
The ROW4UKRAINE crew plan to leave the Canaries in December and land in Barbados six weeks later.
The boat was made for them by Dmytro Rezvoy, a Ukrainian boat builder who is also a member of the crew.
Dmytro, Ivan Gavrylko, Semen Lagun and Derman Ihor Olehovych are Ukrainian Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) while Lee and Andy Merry are British WIS.
The crew is aiming to raise £150,000 for the Invictus Games Foundation which will be ring-fenced for Ukrainian WIS to enable their rehabilitation through sport and adventure."

Go guys! Go Invictus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, important to highlight the point of this:

American press dragging the UK press.

From @LittleTeawithmilk1's post upthread. Well, this was spot on, and could be gaining traction. Another article today:

"Prince Harry’s with Good Morning America last week was an eye-opening experience in very different ways, depending on which side of the pond you live. There was a big fuss about the Duke of Sussex breaking his silence about King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis even though he didn’t say much. However, it was the media coverage and how the U.S. and the U.K. press handled it that is now drawing all of the attention.
...
Prince Harry is living his best life in the California sunshine, and succeeding, despite what the British tabloids want everyone to believe. From the NFL Honors in Las Vegas to the slopes of Whistler, Canada ahead of the 2025 Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan Markle are warmly welcomed.
...
Meanwhile, King Charles’ pals are busy telling The Daily Beast, “It’s hard to believe that Harry can keep finding ways to make things worse. He just needs to pipe down.” The Duke of Sussex shared his story in his memoir, Spare, which understandably ruffled feathers, but he and Meghan have made it very clear that they are done telling their royal exit story. They’ve planted roots and made money outside of the palace walls, but some royalists are still hoping for Prince Harry’s spectacular fall — and it’s not a good look."

Isnt this exactly what you posted on the 18th? No one gives a rat's ass about the US gossipy media. They are no better than UK tabloids.

You must try and stop this US v UK imagined battle. We all know what a disloyal backstabber Harry is and what he has done, as does he and I'm sure most intelligent folk in the US, not all granted.

skullbabe · 20/02/2024 13:22

I think that the difference between UK and non tabloid worldwide media is interesting. I’ve read Canadian and Irish editorials about the past weekend and it is indeed a different, tone and narrative spin. It’s great that more people are seeing it but I think in the long run it doesn’t matter.

pipsfromthefuture · 20/02/2024 16:06

Thanks Taller. Great to see the coverage.

TallerSally · 20/02/2024 17:25

Well @skullbabe I think that depends on to whom. The UK media are investing incredibly heavily in attempting to destroy M&H's reputation, for their various reasons, their pact with royals, click-bait, and their response to Harry's litigation being the most salient.

The fact that they are not succeeding in imposing their negative narrative on the media in other countries is significant firstly to H&M, who are showing that they are able to garner media support in their new country of residence, and thereby protect their reputations and freedom to pursue their goals.

It's also more broadly significant to those who are appalled by the arrogance of the UK media in thinking they have absolute power to destroy individuals in the public eye just because they oppose them - as Harry is doing with his court cases.

Janiie · 20/02/2024 18:33

'The UK media are investing incredibly heavily in attempting to destroy M&H's reputation, for their various reasons, their pact with royals, click-bait, and their response to Harry's litigation being the most salient.'

They really aren't. Coverage has been minimal and not remotely 'attempting to destroy'. Yes some sounds a bit tongue in cheek 'Harry jets across the Atlantic and is granted 30mins with his df' but its all mild pisstaking. No one is trying to destroy them, they are doing that fine all by themselves.

Harry doesn't actually do any work on Invictus you know. He has a team who created and run it. He is extremely difficult to work with and shouts and screams at staff regularly.

Coronateachingagain · 20/02/2024 23:14

Yeah what does Haz exactly do at Invictus except showing up for a pseudo royal tour every now and then? Forgive me if I missed any other proper relevant duties. I would like that job of being serenaded by Buble now and then. Maybe I should change my name to Duchess Coronateach and take it from there. If I get the job, hopefully they will pay for my private jet too.

Harry is the patron of the Invictus Games - here is a definition of what that means.

Haven't we gone over this? The Royal Foundation founded it. They let Harold have it, no doubt to give him something to do.

He needs IG far more than IG need him with his ego, disloyalty to the rf and all the other negative associations.

JSMill · 21/02/2024 09:09

It wasn't even H's idea originally. He got the idea from the Warrior games. He then used money from the royal foundation and got money from the government. Joe Bloggs wouldn't have been able to get that if he wanted to start a charity. Because of his royal status then was able to recruit high calibre people to actually run it. The games themselves are organised by the host country. Yet he still puts himself and his wife in the centre stage. As pp have said, it's really all he's got now.

Surely someone in IG HQ has brought up the elephant in the room. The posing, preening LA duo are doing them no favours. They need someone else.
