The trailer for 'Heart of Invictus" has been released by Netflix, and it looks incredible, and so moving.

For those interested, please find it here.

I've just seen on twitter that viewing figures for the documentary are 2.5mil

Is that correct and up to date?

Probably. It has been 3 days though. And it is the graveyard shift in terms of programming at the moment.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 02/09/2023 09:28

That has nothing to do with Netflix. The Netflix site itself has figures for the week just been, 21-28 August.

Can you link please? I couldn't get it to connect.

The series is being downvoted on IMDB and some of the comments are very funny. Many of the downvoters flooding the comments are suggesting that he needs to "give it" to William. 🤔

Reminds me of the Jenni Bond article we discussed earlier, which spun off the idea that the royal Family can't "take" Invictus from Harry.

There is a deranged group that believes that he has not been punished enough, and needs everything "taken" from him, even the thing he started! The same group has been spreading the misinformation that William used his "secret Murdoch settlement" to fund Invictus.

There is simply no reasoning with some people.

Its disturbing the level of hatred some people have, to actually go and review bomb a documentary about veterans, who share such personal stories. I despair at society these days.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 02/09/2023 09:31

No, I'm not your secretary, you can go to the Netflix site easily enough.

I was reading an article where they suggested that it might be too long to sustain the general interest. The team behind it are award winning for the documentary "White helmets" which was a much shorter piece.

I read that article also. It was the Express I believe with a headline along the lines of... Harry dealt blow as no pulling power... or words to that effect.
Just the usual negativity and it was quite funny to see the 'royal expert' twist himself into all sorts of peculiar shapes to criticise Harry whilst doing his damndest not to criticise the documentary content or Invictus.

He didn't manage it.

AuroraCake · 02/09/2023 10:01

It's not going to have mass appeal let's be realistic. It isn't Bridgerton, The Crown or those high quality hallmarky TV and films that Netflix do really well. May actually have done better on Disney which has a way of doing these documentaries. Not what Netflix is known for. Haven't watched that Tennis one and there is another rugby one coming out.so obviously trying to change that but it's an over saturated market now and Netflix is the big glossy period drama broadcaster or the kitschy comfort one. Other streamers do documentaries or edgy really well.

Ultimately they will need to refine their USP.

No it wasn't the Express but that is a general theme in the reviews coming out.

I think NF do good documentaries. The Jimmy Saville one, Jeffrey Epstein, The Keepers was brilliant but so awfully sad. 14 Peaks was mesmerising (well worth watching).

On a lighter note.... Fyre

That it is too long to sustain interest for your average viewer.

Mmm maybe but not as good as others. Keepers was good. They have lost that edge and that is because at of producers have other options now.

I thought it was definitely too long, didn’t watch all of it. It would have better suited a feature-length piece. The editing was very choppy as well.

Yep high production value for very little $, this sort of thing is their bread and butter

Well it is. Many will sit down and watch maybe an hour and half BBC style documentary on it. Cover all your bases but people really aren't going to dedicate 5 hours and it isn't a sport either a fan base so tricky. There is just too much out there now. You have to be special.

It isn't. Their bread and butter is buying in licensing from other shows. What makes them money is their Bridgerton, Crown etc. Yhey them spend money on some.truly unique gems that get like a season.

mrsmingleton · 02/09/2023 10:33

It's down to the old candy and broccoli strategy with Netflix. They don't really care how many people watch things like this documentary - they are happy with the association with high profile people. They get publicity and prestige.

MissElinorDashwood · 02/09/2023 10:51

Not sure about official numbers…probably too early to tell?

I wouldn’t expect record breaking numbers, but the Invictus Games will now have more eyes on it than not. That can only be a good thing. It’s a win-win for them either way.

I could watch an entire series just on Yuliia/Taira's life story. I hope the Uk press negativity doesn't;t put people off because the veterans deserve for people to listen to their stories so we have better support for all of them. I think its improved a little over the years, from 2017 on when I searched there were a lot more articles on vets and PTSD.

MissElinorDashwood · 02/09/2023 10:57

It’s trending in the UK, US, Canada,Norway, Belgium, South Africa, Nigeria etc

Not sure how that will translate in numbers but it’s certainly great publicity for the Games that they wouldn’t otherwise have.

Mmmm. Not a sustainable financial model. With one of their juggernauts due to end this year and the other really half way to being done, and the increasing competition since Covid. They need to slow the money train fast. Amazon is practically identical to them in what they do drama wise. Others have a defijite USP in what they produce. Often going big scale on the quirky ones Netfix would make from their extras. Many of the smaller streamers are then licensing their shows to other networks a year or two later. Another way of making money. Essentially that's what keeps BBC afloat...drama wise.
