H&M asked if they could have a lift home on AF1 after HMQs funeral.
Environmentally friendly sure, but makes them look grabby and entitled again. Makes for a good story though.

Given there are countless stories daily about them, why should they waste money and headspace sueing every bit of nonsense printed?

This always makes me laugh.

Harry and Meghan use litigation strategically.

They do not and have not sued over every inaccurate thing ever. As far as I am aware, they have never sued over opinion. And any story about them that is attributed to anonymous sources, and that comes from the tabloids, is basically opinion.

They take legal action on clearly egregious matters where the legal line is crossed: eg a newspaper printing a private letter, phone hacking and illegal activities. Photos of their children that they have not released themselves would fall into the illegal category, which is why the DM recently blurred out faces in the pap photos of their kids.

Imagine suing Lord Colin Campbell's ex-wife, or Tom Bower, or Dan Wootton, or the crazy You tubers for all the loopy things they said. hey would have to move into the courthouse!!! And suing would give legitimacy where none is earned.

IF this is true, then the only reason I can think that the Bidens said No for was maybe a security issue ( posh people speak for "sorry, can't help it's 'ealth n safety")

If not that, then seems pretty mean to say no

I'm sure the Bidens didn't want to be seen as taking sides when a head of state is amid a widely publicized family rift.

Why is it mean to tell two of the most privileged people on the planet to make their own travel arrangements??

Serenster · 20/07/2023 13:23

As far as I am aware, they have never sued over opinion.

Harry is currently suing ANL for defamation over an article about his legal battle with the U.K. government regarding his security arrangements. The article, published in the Daily Mail in February last year, suggested that Harry had tried to keep his legal battle with the U.K. government a secret, and when it was clear that it could not be conducted without publicity, made an offer to pay for the costs himself so he’d look better (the court papers show this offer hadn’t been made until after the court case was filed, so the interpretation the Mail put on it is their opinion).

ArcaneWireless · 20/07/2023 13:26

I call shenanigans on the AF1 story.

No one would act in such a self important manner surely?

Ah. Wait now…

LaDeeDa123 · 20/07/2023 13:26

I really wanted to like Meghan but in all honesty I can’t get past the things she’s said which have been vague but incredibly damaging to other people (skin colour-just say who it was) and the things which I know aren’t true. Why claim you got married before the big wedding when that’s impossible according to UK law? When the Archbishop of Canterbury has to issue a statement to refute something you’ve said you know you’ve fucked up. These are just examples. In my own life I try to live by the ‘when someone shows you who they are believe them’ saying. This is why I struggle to see past this with Meghan. I’m not PH’s biggest fan either. At the end of the day he’s an old Etonian….

Mean?! It’s a government plane. It belongs to the American people. It’s being operated with taxpayer dollars. It’s not public transit for the overprivileged.

Can’t even believe anyone would ask such a thing.

That is not opinion. Do you really not see the difference???

longwayoff · 20/07/2023 13:35

And not even covered by Dan Wotton. Well well.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/07/2023 13:36

Given his increasingly sad track record I wouldn't want to assume Biden even knows who Charles is, far less that he understands any of the nuances of the "rift" or the consequences of being seen to "take a side"

It's probably safe to believe that his advisers do though, and that they do their best to guide him in as much as that's possible

Yes this is what I find staggering. It’s just so incredibly rude.

neither of you know whether or not he tried or what the reasons were so I don't see how you can make any judgement of Harry. Or is it Thomas you're calling rude? My Dad was straight round to meet my boyfriends! No way he wouldn't.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 20/07/2023 14:03

Nomoreheroics · 20/07/2023 13:56

Exactly

Exactly what? You don't know he asked and anyone catching a lift pays except the President. Once again people are making judgements and creating narratives based on media gossip and getting a few of the facts wrong to twist it into using tax payer dollars.

Howsimplywonderful · 20/07/2023 14:09

We’ll he expects free government security, so a free lift on a government plane is hardly a stretch.

Roussette · 20/07/2023 14:11

I can't believe people have bought into this story... why on earth would he want to catch a flight that is 2,500 miles out of his way.

I don’t think a member of the RF in a foreign country is someone you can just go ‘straight round ‘ to meet off your own bat. It was incumbent on Harry to make the effort to see an older man .

Howsimplywonderful · 20/07/2023 14:13

You’re right, who in their right mind would want a Netflix crew filming them going up the steps of Air Force One with the Biden’s
😂😂😂

Hi Mumsnetters

Is this a CF or AIBU?

DH and I recently attended the funeral of an acquaintence - not a close friend but important to show our faces for social reasons as the lady was very popular and well respected. We were limited on time, as DH is not as sprightly as he used to be but is still forced to work by his organisation...I need to make sure he's OK and well looked after, etc.

As we were leaving the funeral, the lady's grandson's wife hustled up to us and demanded a lift back home with us. We wouldn't normally mind but they live 2,300 miles out of our way and jet fuel's ridiculously expensive ever since we had some issues with our CF neighbours to the east. We're also not 100% keen on the grandson's wife since every conversation you have with her ends up making its way into the parish newsletter! So I said no and he looked pretty hacked off.

Was the grandson being a CF or AIBU?

Very good :)

Exactly = it’s not mean to decline to use taxpayer property to give someone an international lift while conducting official business. The Bidens attending the Queen’s funeral as The President and First Lady. Not as Joe and Jill. It’s not their personal plane.

Anyone catching a lift pays? What does that even mean? You can’t just buy tickets. The Biden’s would be the ones on the hook for taking personal guests, not the guests.

Millicentsparty · 20/07/2023 14:22

Harry knows both the Bidens through Invictus and the Warrior Games which to me makes it more like getting a lift from a friend than a political master plan.

He's met them on a couple of occasions. I don't think they're friends. Just as I don't think they're friends with the Obamas. They are friendly acquaintances. I've met and spoken to Princess Anne. I wouldn't try to cadge a lift on her helicopter. 😄 Although I'd accept if invited. 😉

But I agree Harry hasn't developed a master plan. 😂 He's probably still trying to work out why him interviewing Putin about his hard childhood wasn't a great idea. Harry needs other people to make plans for him. But I do think he's accustomed to asking to borrow people's jets and houses and no one saying no, so, understandably, he thought he'd ask for this too. Sadly, he still thinks he has the standing he used to have.

Nor at Meghan’s age is it still Daddy’s responsibility!
