Kate and Williams children overexposed

It is sad to see the children appearing more and more at public events. Yesterday George and Charlotte appeared at wilmbledon and Charlotte gave a player an official coin. Today the children are all over the press.

A few days ago they appeared at the Royal international Air tattoo.
There has been criticism before on the board at the number of appearances thr children make in public. This was said to be temporary due to the death of Elizabeth and Charles as the new king, but it quite clearly is not true.

The children are being increasingly taken to events where William and Kate are working, to help boost the popularity of the Royal family. The children gain nothing from it. I am sure they would have enjoyed the air tattoo far more without a crowd of photographers taking lots of photos of the children.

It's sad to see the children used in this way. So much for giving them a normal childhood.

You can only sleep in one bed at a time and shit in one loo at a time.

EXACTLY

So why they need all these massive estates, goodness only knows

Samcro · 18/07/2023 20:01

The amount of bathrooms get me,

Well at least they can vote him out if he's shit and I doubt all his family members are paid to help him with all the smiling and waving and signing of bills, now I'm not sure if he's exempt from iht or works things so he can fleece as much money as possible from the tax payer like the Royal family but I doubt it

If I lived in Ireland I might have an opinion about their president but as I don't it's not really my business

The Irish President costs more per head than the sovereign grant does. And the amount paid to the IP just covers his wages, staff wages, and office, travel and subsistence costs. The sovereign grant pays wages (none of the RF take a wage from the the SG) of Charles' staff, office costs, etc and it covers general upkeep, repair and maintenance of historical and state buildings, which, as they're all graded buildings, is very expensive.

I’d have multiple homes if I could. How wonderful to go on holiday and not have to cart your belongings around with you. Just rock up and there it all was. Yep, that’d suit me…

Roussette · 18/07/2023 19:50

Why does it matter if they're living in splendour?

Quite a lot actually! But if you don't understand that, there's not a lot of point me trying to discuss it with you...

I don't get your point about the Queen dislking Buckingham Palace, sorry.

Every head of state lives in splendour. It shows off the country.

The Irish president lives in Áras an Uachtaráin. Seems pretty splendiferous to me.

Yes, one property. Lovely!

I'd rather the Royal Family own them than mysterious billionaires. The Duke of Westminster suffered from depression all of his life. I'm sure his property portfolio did not bring any relief from that.

But you didn't specify numbers. You just said heads of state living in splendour was wrong.

I didn't say that.

See my post below I have just copy and pasted
At least there's only one Head of State. Not a whole extended family. Living in splendour.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/07/2023 20:52

@Roussette

We have many living retired heads of state all getting nice pensions, the downsides of fixed terms. If it’s cost savings you’re after you might be disappointed.

Roussette · 18/07/2023 20:56

I very much doubt it.

AliceOlive · 18/07/2023 20:58

Yes, or have them fall into disrepair, be abandoned, eventually torn down. I was in a huge (to me) old house recently and it had a long difficult history. It's been a home, a girls school, a theatre group hq, sat empty and finally was acquired by a foundation. They had to fundraise to do extensive renovations. It's a museum now but even the foundation had faced bankruptcy at one point.

Even a large house, older, lovely home near me was demolished down a few years ago due to greed/lack of an interested buyer.

I also don't care one lick about anyone employing "too many people." That is the opposite of a problem in my opinion.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/07/2023 21:00

The costs do work out the same. I did post on it before.

Don’t forget you have to factor in election costs to every 7 years (Irish term length). They all get hefty pensions upon retirement

Roussette · 18/07/2023 21:08

I know you did. And we didn't agree, and don't now.

Totally agree

William and Harry rarely appeared at events as children.
Charlotte and George have been at two public events in just a few days. This counts as a working week for adult royals.

Rubbish that William and Harry were rarely seen at public events.

I include a photo of William at Wimbledon at the same age as Prince George, and again a year later and William greeting the public aged 9.

You sound desperate, scraping round for reasons to criticise the royal family. William lived through a royal childhood and clearly enjoyed trips to Wimbledon if he’s happy to take his own DC.

Kids of that age should be running about getting dirty, not trussed up in suits & forced to sit for 5 hours on show. Diana did take W & H to events, but she also took them on 'secret' visits to places where they met underprivileged people like homeless shelters & to visit aids patients, the Royal children now only seem to go to things that underline their privilege.

Howsimplywonderful · 18/07/2023 22:35

@Nat6999

You have no idea how many ‘secret’ trips they have, probably because they’re ‘secret’ 🤣

JaneJeffer · 18/07/2023 22:36

How do you know they're not being taken on secret visits too?

Howsimplywonderful · 18/07/2023 22:38

Is that you Meghan?

Middle school mean girls always manage to show up on threads like this.

DreamTheMoors · 19/07/2023 00:42

These are children and their parents are surely doing their level best in raising them. George and Charlotte seem delightful to me, even though I know I know their lives are anything but my kind of normal.
It’s normal to them, isn’t it?

toomuchlaundry · 19/07/2023 01:23

There were quite a few children in the crowd. They are also the ones who rush up to get autographs from the players as they leave the court
