I can’t even imagine the prison of being Williamsnd Kate and I honestly feel this even though I’ve no staff or palaces. The hours with their children on show during a coronation, their children criticised, security concerns, the time alone coordinating outifts. The hours over the coronation weekend and then a public engagement with kids. Imagine having everyone photograph you when you are bloated with your period or fighting with your husband that day. I sm
not saying women over 40 should be invisible but that the pressure to look hot while playing tennis just shouldn’t be on you as a Mum of 3.

I think the claustrophobia of it is also the weight in their shoulders since the coronation. The royal family rides on the media and without fashion and royals of varying ages and babies and events, the media lose interest. The weight is firmly on those senior working royals.

I just find them utterly claustrophobic to watch especially the kids. I wonder why the British public doesn’t question it. They’re not being poorly treated but doing official engagements at 6 ?

Yes the royal family is steeped in history but so are many things, that doesn’t make it right. It does mean people just don’t question it.

Is it right for children to grow up like that ? We see the end result for child celebrities and the many royals who’ve ended up fairly unhappy and obsessed with their own fragile ego and identities.

I don’t get it and I can’t help but feel the Sussex children got the better end of the deal.

I thjnk if I were Kate I’d ask my husband to give it all up. Why don’t they ? Take a duchy and run !!!!

There is a video on Tik Tok of William on a bike ride just outside of their estate and both very upset and presumably children nearby and this is just the dramas we know about William argument with photographer family bike ride

I guess my point is it’s claustrophobic and I think there’s a lot of power and money at stake for them to put up with this and for all
the arguments in the royal family over the years.

The idea it’s all just about service and charity is not true in my opinion

Right. You feel for the Wales's claustrophobic life and proceed to post a link to a video that breaches their privacy.

Labradorandshiraz · 28/06/2023 17:48

@DollyTheFluffyOne it’s night time here. I have had some Wine tonight. Even so, I stand by this.

Labradorandshiraz · 28/06/2023 18:05

It’s 1am in Australia

I have far too much time on my hands while my child is with his Dad

I live in ‘wine country’

It was a good bottle of shiraz

Listen. Okay. I like talking about the royals and not many other Australians do.

I know it’s wrong. I know it’s hypocrisy.

I just think all you Brits and your crazy royal family and your crazy rules and your royal famiky dramas takin over world news…

You all need a wake up call.

In Australia our kids are playing football or learning to surf. They’re not dressed in a suit and tie watching their pop be crowned king and then shaking hands with crowds.

wake up yoyr royal family are weird.

maybe if William wants to deal with homelessness he needs to look at the how the aristocracy and the whole rotten system continues to screw everyone else over. Royalty is an anachronism. They truly don’t give a flying fuck

What’s this got to do with the thread?

Labradorandshiraz · 28/06/2023 18:20

@ProfessorXtra the thread is evolving and a conversation which ventured into the royal family and their work/intentions/point of the institution

It’s evolving….but not into something that makes sense

Actually, OP, as a Brit, living in London, I don't really think about the RF that much. I have never queued to see a funeral, coronation, wedding, etc. I have recorded the TV of the Coronation, but haven't watched it yet. I am interested when I see them on TV, etc, but not really someone who gets worked up about them.
Generally, I would not introduce a royal family, if we did not have one, and the thought of President Blair, or Truss, is not one I want.
To answer your original question, I would have initially thought being Harry, a better option. Technically, could have a career if wanted. However, Harry is not clever enough to have found a rewarding career, except for trashing his family. Generally, I think this was not a bright thing to do. He should have focused on positively moving forward, rather than his book, Spare, etc
The Spotify podcast could have been so much better, but it seems they have not performed/done the work expected of them.

I couldn't say to DD 'follow your dreams' because that cost more money than I could afford.

A friend is in a similar position with her daughter, who is talented in musical theatre. You need to train intensively from a young age to have a chance.

The reality is for most of us that there are limits on the opportunities our children have.

I was going to say the same.

"Follow your dream" is all well and good, but reality intervenes. I get the argument that George pretty much had his future mapped out for him on the day he was born, but his siblings will have so many options. With their wealth and connections, they'll have a much better chance of 'following their dream' than the average child. Being the child or sibling of a monarch opens doors that would remain tightly shut to the vast majority of us.

Absolutely ! To the vast majority of the U.K. the royals are just background , they don’t think an out them much except at things like the Jubilee and frankly that’s mostly because they get a day off . It’s all the overseas people who are obsessed

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 28/06/2023 19:35

But yet here you are with your communist royal family

Communist? royal family?

Does communist mean something different in Australia to what it means here?

In Australia our kids are playing football or learning to surf. They’re not dressed in a suit and tie watching their pop be crowned king and then shaking hands with crowds

Well, that would be because they aren't heirs to the throne, OP.

I don't think either the RF or the UK has asked or expected anyone to make it world news. But the fact that it became like that, I guess shows how fascinated people are by the British royal family. Which is why we shouldn't lose it. Because whether you agree with the institution or not, it's a fact that lots of people round the world would like to meet a king or a princess whereas if we had ever-changing ex politicians or charity people for heads of state, no one abroad would be the slightest bit interested. Just like not many were interested in Meghan until she became royal duchess, which they understand and why they're both determined to cling onto their titles rather than live the American way.
