The royal family

Did Harry get the better deal

I can’t even imagine the prison of being Williamsnd Kate and I honestly feel this even though I’ve no staff or palaces. The hours with their children on show during a coronation, their children criticised, security concerns, the time alone coordinating outifts. The hours over the coronation weekend and then a public engagement with kids. Imagine having everyone photograph you when you are bloated with your period or fighting with your husband that day. I sm
not saying women over 40 should be invisible but that the pressure to look hot while playing tennis just shouldn’t be on you as a Mum of 3.

I think the claustrophobia of it is also the weight in their shoulders since the coronation. The royal family rides on the media and without fashion and royals of varying ages and babies and events, the media lose interest. The weight is firmly on those senior working royals.

I just find them utterly claustrophobic to watch especially the kids. I wonder why the British public doesn’t question it. They’re not being poorly treated but doing official engagements at 6 ?

Yes the royal family is steeped in history but so are many things, that doesn’t make it right. It does mean people just don’t question it.

Is it right for children to grow up like that ? We see the end result for child celebrities and the many royals who’ve ended up fairly unhappy and obsessed with their own fragile ego and identities.

I don’t get it and I can’t help but feel the Sussex children got the better end of the deal.

I thjnk if I were Kate I’d ask my husband to give it all up. Why don’t they ? Take a duchy and run !!!!

Yes, Harry is out of the ridiculous horses and pony show.

HamBone · 28/06/2023 20:40

To answer your original question, I would have initially thought being Harry, a better option.

I agree, @milveycrohn Re. The original question. Kate knew what she was getting into when she married William so I think they’ve accepted their roles and are a team.

I do feel sorry for their children born into it, but I think they’ve got a chance of being OK, their parents seem to be putting in a huge effort to keep their lives stable.

If any of the children want to get out of the RF, I think they could without too much drama.

When they lived in Wales, surely there was a photo of Kate wheeling the supermarket trolley. I know she had more freedom then. She can't drop everything and nip to Tesco now she's a princess. She just pops to the corner shop in Dersingham, the one where Renee's auntie's cousin's girl is one of the Norfolk blondes William has on-going affairs with. Oh, bugger, I'll be reported for frivolity.

I was taking the mickey out of the wittering/twittering gossip which goes on with people who do not know all the details of the lives of the RF.

Hawkins0001 · 28/06/2023 20:51

@Labradorandshiraz
They will have teams of people that help manage it all, Plus when you can help shape society and eg be a part of various groups of influence eg Bilderberg etc why would you give it all up.

CathyorClaire · 28/06/2023 21:01

I'm sure they'd have been welcomed back to pick and choose which parts they wanted to join in with and have more opportunities in their careers.

Isn't that the refused deal that prompted the never-ending tantrum?

CathyorClaire · 28/06/2023 21:03

You just pass it to the left hand side

😁😁😁

(And 😡at the earworm)

I think Harry has created a ridiculous horse and pony show of his very own.

Can I also admit that amongst the labsandchiraz moments on this thread - I did actually snort in laughter a little at her addressing you as "ladycake"

I might use lady cake as a generic term of endearment with my friends. See how it’s received. I like it 😀

"I'm sure they'd have been welcomed back to pick and choose which parts they wanted to join in with and have more opportunities in their careers."

It was refused because the RF has a constitutional role in this country. You cannot represent the RF (aka State), and at the same time, monetise it, which is what it seems they wanted to do.

Other members of the RF, such as Zara Tindall, are not 'working' members of the RF, in that they do not represent the State. Therefore they can make commercial deals/sponsorsip deals, but do not go to State Banquets, etc. They attend some functions as members of the family. (funeral, etc).

Harry and Meghan wanted to pick and choose which bits they wanted to do, and commercialise the rest. Apparantly, they already had their interview with Oprah booked and their deals with Spotify and Netflix were already being planned when they left for Canada, and then the US.

I actually think George can follow his dreams. Dream don’t necessarily have to be your job. He can afford to do whatever he likes as a hobby and he will have more time because he won’t need to clean the house or cook dinner like most people who are in their dream career have to.

The royals are like everyone on the sense that parts of their lives are mundane, stressful, tedious and other parts are fun relaxing and meaningful. I have more choice than George on my career. He has far more choice than me in how he spends his leisure time

Absolutely. Charles has devoted decades to things that interest him, few people have that luxury. George is very lucky to have the same opportunity

Sugarfree23 · 30/06/2023 23:20

Ann devoted decades to Save the Children, first got involved at just 21

Philips things were DoE awards, and environmental issues, involved in the World Wildlife Fund since the beginning.

Charles has Princes Trust

Camilla has got involved with Osteoporosis

King George has a Trust which I can't quite remember the name of to do with public parks - Trusted Fields or something.

All the senior Royals are in positions where they can make a difference.
The biggest tie for George is he'll be expected to enter the military, like his Uncles, Dad, and Grandparents
