Harry and Meghan slammed by Spotify executive after podcast deal ends | The Independent

The old thread got closed, just as I was trying to quote tweet someone! So I've started this one, because this shitshow is still rumbling on

It has to be hard being the offspring of famous parents though doesn’t it? Doors will be opened, but it comes with so much expectation, and any failures are vey public.

Does it have to be hard? I was shocked how many successful actors and singers actually get into the industry because they have relatives involved somewhere that got them a leg up. The child doesn't feel bad when it works out for them.

If you're going to arrange for your child to do a photoshoot or a book deal, don't you think you both have to be responsible and realistic enough to recognise if they have any actual talent in that area. And if they clearly don't, you guide them elsewhere.

These children get bought plenty of opportunity so I find it difficult to muster up much sympathy. (But I don't like the Beckhams so I'm willing to accept I could be biased against their sandwichly challenged son. 😄)

Sugarfree23 · 13/07/2023 20:12

How hard it is has to depend on the parents.
Some famous parents keep their kids completely out of the equation. You can probably name the McCartney kids, Geldofs kids, the Beckhams,

Could you name any other Spice Girl kids, or other footballers kids?

Ohpleeeease · 13/07/2023 20:20

The other Spice Girl kids are quite young yet, give them time!

Phoenix, Mel B's oldest, has been on telly and has modelled for Asda. I think all the other spice girl children are still at school.

Sorry, I'm not into football so I don't really know any footballers. Messi, Ronaldo? Do they have grown up children? I don't know.

Keep your eye out when new stars appear, there's more often than not some nepotism at play.

StartupRepair · 13/07/2023 21:43

Failure is only public if you choose a publicity seeking career. If Brooklyn was in most early careers we wouldn't know anything about him.

Ohpleeeease · 14/07/2023 16:37

It strikes me that what DB had was an exceptional footballing talent, and what VB has is a really strong work ethic. If their children have inherited either one of those attributes they stand a chance of success in life. Without them, even with the help of their parents, it could be more difficult. But if they fail, we’ll certainly hear about it.

Sugarfree23 · 14/07/2023 16:56

DB must have had a really strong work ethic too. Raw talent will only take you so far in football, you need to keep working at it to make the top.

AutumnCrow · 14/07/2023 17:16

I am cynical now about ‘new acting talent / model / musical star coming to the fore’ stories and automatically look for the famous parent.

’Daisy Wannabe, 20, shares an agent with presenter dad Jonathan and producer mum Sally, but says she hopes for stardom on her own terms’, ad nauseum.

I agree he works hard. He's worked hard to get himself a knighthood by doing charitable work that made him look good to the public, even though he was ripping off that charity behind the scenes. Nice guy. 🙄

Ohpleeeease · 14/07/2023 19:52

I think DB probably has done a lot for football but whether it’s enough to earn a knighthood is another matter, he does seem very keen to get one.

His manager keeps nominating him so I guess he'll just wear them down. Who rips off a charity, though? That should bloody block him for life.

Howsimplywonderful · 14/07/2023 20:13

David Beckhams leaked emails showed him to be such an arsehole

Calum Best comes to mind. Father one of the most talented footballers to come from UK and Mother Angie a hard worker who actually made it (I think) in LA. Yet Calum drifts from reality show to reality show living off the Best name.
Must be a huge burden/leg up in equal measure.

Ohpleeeease · 15/07/2023 16:35

@Grrrpredictivetex Callum Best is a case in point. He’s chosen the celebrity route because that’s the world he grew up in. I’m not sure what else he could have done if he hadn’t.

Nomoreheroics · 15/07/2023 19:35

I can’t think that it can be true. There is no way in hell Meghan would ever go back to the RF. Also it’s highly unlikely if it did happen the press would get to know about it before it was a done deal. The public would just never accept M and H as working Royals ever again anyway.

Gracewithoutend · 15/07/2023 19:39

I don't believe it. Meghan wouldn't go back and Harry wouldn't go anywhere without Meghan. There very well might have been calls about making up because I'm sure Harry misses being part of a big family, but I can't see him ever wanting to go back. Imagine the scrutiny they'd all be under. And it would be quite humiliating for him. Plus, I believe him when he says he's genuinely happy in California.

Those photos outside some offices were strange. They were taken by a lone Backgrid photographer, Karl Larsen, who worked with Thomas Markle making YT videos. Then TM severed ties with him. After which Larsen started writing positive things about Harry and Meghan. Suddenly he knows where they are and he's taking photos of them, there are accompanying headlines of the couple holding hands but no photos showing that, and a commentary from him of how much in love they are.

There was a photo of MM at a market in Montecino tosay I think. A but of a coincidence that there happened to be a photographer there ?

Kate would implode into nothing, as for me the Prodigal Son will have returned - all hail the conquering hero comes.

And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.’28 But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him,29 but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’31 And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.32 It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’”

Anyone see this:

I want to point out that Yahoo almost always posts articles very positive toward H&M. I didn’t take this as positive or negative, just interesting

Maybe another attempt at the half in/half out arrangement?

Interesting that there were signs up saying no dogs but she had her dog with her . One rule for her and one for the ordinary people …..

Nomoreheroics · 15/07/2023 21:51

I think her security guy was keeping hold of the dog.
