Harry and Meghan slammed by Spotify executive after podcast deal ends | The Independent

The old thread got closed, just as I was trying to quote tweet someone! So I've started this one, because this shitshow is still rumbling on

I’ve compared them to the tale of Icarus which seems far closer to what has happened to them.

Perhaps they will ‘rise up’ but it’s probably more appropriate to use ‘lifted up by wealthy friends and connections’

Well, yes, I would agree.

Wheresthebeach · 30/06/2023 09:49

I think if the rumours are true about Harry doing a show for Netflix in Africa then he may be able to get back on track. It's more 'him', he loves Africa, and he can focus on something positive.

I'd always thought Harry would struggle and MM would be in her element but I'm wondering if it may be the other away around. MM not breaking through in the way she wants, and Harry focusing on conservation and Africa and finding his feet.

ArcaneWireless · 30/06/2023 09:49

Indeed Janiie

Roussette · 30/06/2023 09:49

Rhondaa · 30/06/2023 09:36

It's quite interesting isn't it. There is nothing in this poster's post that breaks TGs so it makes you wonder why they say 'cue delete' and what on earth they spend their time reporting?

Sorry? Why are you jumping in on this. I am vaguely criticising MN moderation and also talked of posters grouping together to sling mud,so I imagined someone would report it

Never fear Janiie I never ever report you and maybe read my last post? Blatant PAs on me I report, but half the time I can't be arsed

The last time I reported a post was 6 weeks ago.

I hope my response is to your satisfaction and could I ask you not to talk about me ("this poster") like I'm not here, the height of rudeness

Gracewithoutend · 30/06/2023 09:50

Roussette · 30/06/2023 09:35

No. As I said above.

Unless it's a personal attack on me. Then I report. Understandably.
I can't be arsed to report the vile stuff on H&M (and they exist) because moderation of H&M threads has changed enormously and anyone can say anything about either of them.

Why do you ask?
Do you?

Do you feel you're attacked a lot, then. It's just that when someone says they get fed up reporting posts, it implies they do it a lot. That's why I queried it because I never thought of you doing that.

No. None deleted. I get fed up of reporting and can't spend my life reporting posts, there were too many.

I've reported two posts. Neither on the RF board. Neither about me. One was just profanity laden aimed at someone who'd said nothing. The other I asked to be moved. Long story. But MN decided not to and gave, I thought, a fair reason. Just 2.

'I can't be arsed to report the vile stuff on H&M (and they exist'

'Vile stuff' has always been deleted. Scrutiny and criticism hasn't, there is a massive difference.

Is that what you call it! Rightio!

Scrutiny 😂😅🤣

I have been posting under this name for over a decade so it will be more than you? Not sure how long you've been here😎....me 17 years

Yes documentaries about other subjects rather than his bitterness and resentment may be quite good. He just might came across well presenting wise.

Scrutiny and criticism, yes Confused.

As I said 'vile' stuff is deleted.

Are you ok?

Ridemeginger · 30/06/2023 09:56

Roussette · 30/06/2023 09:23

Ahhh we can talk about the Scobie book then even though it's nothing to do with fucking grifters!

As I understand it, the book isn't out until at least the end of the year? It'll get very boring speculating how awful it is for months and months...

The book was initially due to be published in August, I believe, so yes, it has been talked about in the press and as a result on here. Scobie has put back publication to November, no doubt to include his nuggets of wisdom on the Coronation, and the huge danger to the monarchy posed by pesky kids making their parents 5 minutes late.

But in any event, what's it to you if it's discussed for months and months? Why are you thread policing? Discussions evolve. Just ignore the bits you are not interested in. I think Scobie is relevant, actually, in terms of where the Sussexes go next in their careers. M&H have said they will no longer be talking about (and hence monetising) the RF. I doubt, however, that the animosity has disappeared, quite the contrary. Given Scobie's connections to them and seeming insight into what they are thinking (hence the discussion about the NY car chase incident - it was Scobie saying they had not been contacted by the RF, information he can only have got from H&M), it's not a leap to speculate that their feelings towards the RF may be articulated by him going forward, while they concentrate on their other projects and steer clear of direct criticism.

Vile stuff is not deleted. I really do not want to repeat a couple of terrible terrible things I have read lately but needless to say you are incorrect.

I agree with this. Harry loves Botswana, he loves conservation, it has the ring of truth about it.

Which is why I am so surprised about how they have totally lost their way, both pre- and post-RF.

'Vile stuff is not deleted. I really do not want to repeat a couple of terrible terrible things I have read lately but needless to say you are incorrect.'

Well report it. I guarantee 'vile' comments will be deleted. The problem is your vile quite possibly isn't everyone else's.

Qbish · 30/06/2023 10:00

It is not, though, imo, worth the millions of $ that Netflix paid them. That was clearly for access to the RF.

However, a couple of decent, worthy docus on a subject dear to Harry's heart might start the brand rehabilitation.

As for Meghan, she tried a worthy podcast, but failed to get continuing A list guests. So I wonder what she does now? What is her real interest, her passion? That's what she should be focussing on. And trying a little humility for a while.

You never know it could lead to building bridges with William too as it's a shared passion.

tigger2022 · 30/06/2023 10:08

Heartened to see that so many people have not been engaging in malicious reporting or snitch-tagging. I hardly report anything. Personally I think this is a website for adults and the whole “I’m telling Miss on you”, “Miss said” culture is a bit embarrassing. E.g. we’ve all managed to have a really great, interesting and productive debate between people who fundamentally disagree on the future/abolition of the monarchy without MN ever having to intervene. I have even learned things from people on the “other side”!

(I do think Meghan and Kate take a lot more flack than the men do, but personally I interpret that as the men are not getting criticised enough.)

I agree about the access...but that was also Netflix's mistake. They took a risk, and it's not panned out (in terms of access to the big RF events). But a good couple of well received documentaries might salvage everyone's reputations.

MM does seem to be at a bit of a loss...reviving The Tig seems a step back, and I'm not sure the world of 'influencer' is a good fit if she wants to be taken seriously. The question is - what's her topic, and what grunt work is she prepared to do to earn her stripes?

Littlethingsmeanalot · 30/06/2023 10:12

I’m not convinced on the whole harry loves Africa thing.

they used their African tour on behalf of the queen to attack the media, were desperately unhappy being there, and according to one bbc journalist he was very rude, she asked what his objective was and he said ask them nodding to the crowd and slammed off, he’s not been back since then.

I think it’s simply his agent is looking at what was a positive for harry and trying to leverage it again. Not that he’s any great love for Africa. It’s a last ditch salon to try to do something positive, and this is all he has.

so I’m afraid I’m much more cynical, I believe if he could be doing other things, like selling trash talk on the royals, socialising with a listers, doing interviews in la, he’d be all over that like a rash and Africa wouldn’t get a look in. He’s simply screwed that so is falling back on this.

Ridemeginger · 30/06/2023 10:13

Maybe the government and official conservation groups in Botswana need to be consulted first, given their close ties to the RF and the Commonwealth, and pre-existing conservation ties with William. Harry's history with Botswana was at a time when he was very firmly within the RF. I'm sure official filming, documentary making and access to special areas of conservation need all sorts of official sanction. It's not like rocking up on safari with your iPhone. I think him going there could be diplomatically tricky.

Qbish · 30/06/2023 10:17

Wheresthebeach · 30/06/2023 08:42

Yeah...it would be the first positive thing he's done.

I just hope Scobie doesn't overshadow/rack up the muck again. It would be good for all if everything settled down.

That's the problem for H&M, though. Scobie has said that he is going to write about things the RF should be "ashamed" of. So, come November, just when maybe things are calming down and turning around for H&M, along is going to come this muck raking (I suspect) book by a man who is directly connected to them.

Harry loves the landscape, flora and fauna of Africa, Botswana in particular. I listed to him narrating Spare and it really comes across.

What he clearly didn't enjoy was having to work there, having to meet people, having to stick to a royal schedule.

I’m not sure how well it will go down given the current culture that looks down on white saviour tourism… but that doesn’t mean Harry can’t do some actual, material good there. It will be interesting to watch.

Morestrangerthings · 30/06/2023 10:21

I have never read any of the sort of stuff on your list on MN

I didn’t make it up. Most people who post here regularly knows it happened.

I think you were actively digging for the worst examples to prove your point, possibly posts that later got deleted.

None of this ☝️happened.

I don’t ‘blindly’ support anyone. But criticising any woman for how she looks is just plain wrong. Even if they never read it, it’s still wrong.

I have no problem with criticising anyone for what they do. But it’s got to be fair criticism. Or what’s the point?

Oh yes, good point. But with the right production team, I think that could be handled sensitively.
