No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

No, their contract ended last year and they decided to move to Audible. This was announced in Jun 2022

totally different

plus Barak Obama is a self made man. There is no comparison

Obama is entirely different to Harry!
One a hardworking, diligent, intelligent man.

The other? A professional whinger of epic proportions.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/06/2023 12:23

Oh I dunno @Samcro i would think that the opinion of someone who has sold a podcast series to Spotify for massive sums - almost ten times what the Sussexes got - and made a success of it to the extent that he’s now a Spotify executive, is someone I would like to hear from about someone who has spectacularly failed to do the exact same thing.

And do you think you’d have heard of Harry if he’d had to get anywhere through talent and/or hard work?

People who say they achieved what they have through luck rarely mention they have worked like a trojan and have bags of talent.

How amusing that Meghan has arranged to have herself papped to coincide with the Trooping of the Colour that she wasn't invited to! She's nothing if not predictable.

Kate must really be living rent-free in her head

Yes. She looks very discombobulated and sulky. Serves her right. She is of no consequence.

BarelyLiterate · 17/06/2023 12:26

That is a disgraceful, offensive slur. On decent respectable fucking grifters. Imagine trying to make a dishonest living & being compared to those two whingeing, self-pitying privileged narcissists?

Wheresthebeach · 17/06/2023 12:26

I don’t think Harry has the first clue about what working for a living is actually
like. Even with all the help in the world.

I am genuinely surprised at MM though. I would have thought she’d know how important it was for them to fulfil their content obligations.

TrashyPanda · 17/06/2023 12:27

As for Spotify, shit happens and sometimes business deals don’t work out. The guy who has publicly smeared them is unprofessional

In RL, if you are employed to do a job and you don’t do that job on time, your quality and quantity is poor and you are unpleasant to colleagues, then your employer lets you go - or as it is commonly known - sacks you,

i don’t think telling the truth is “smearing” anyone

TrashyPanda · 17/06/2023 12:29

Oh, and the guy who commented is a professional commenter, so it wasn’t unprofessional. He’s paid for his opinions. It’s literally his job

KnickerlessParsons · 17/06/2023 10:57

I thought a grifter was someone who works hard.
Must mean something different in the US.

No, that's a GRAFTER

A 'Grifter' is the antithesis of a grafter.

Qbish · 17/06/2023 12:30

BoohooWoohoo · 17/06/2023 12:15

Can't believe he didn't pretend that it was a mutual split- must have been bad. His opinion will be noted by other big companies like Disney, Audible and Apple who are probably being sent proposals.

I think that Harry in particular fucked things up with Spotify. He should have done interviews on that platform before talking to anyone else - talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Netflix must also be pissed off at the number of interviews he's done on other platforms too. I am surprised that they didn't have a clause insisting that he did his first post Megxit interview on their platform.

And Netflix must have been steaming when all the juicy stuff came out in Spare, not in their boresome staged "documentary"

They are just a middle-aged wealthy couple who have gained their wealth via his family who need to bridge a large gap in their astronomic finances. That is very different to being a genuinely talented, hungry content producer who innately believes that they are good enough to succeed and garb a rare opportunity and obsessively give it their all because it will be make-or-break for their career.

I imagine she thought that Royal priviledge would protect them. She seems to have bought into being a "real life princess".

Yes that’s a point. Or that nobody would publicly criticise them for fear of law suit…

Actually I think she did try, it’s harry who it seems doesn’t and likely thought someone would do it for him.

The issue is Meghan has no experience or skillset in what she’s attempting to do, and no innate ability, so needs a lot of support. However I suspect she doesn’t recognise that to be the case. Hence she also over promises and under delivers. And why they were both called grifters.

I guess she's learnt that turning up and saying lines someone else has written for you, to a schedule they have created and you have to stick to, is very different from being a self-employed creator who has to bring the goods.

I also wonder whether she really struggled to continue to get top-flight guests for Archetypes after the first few... and that's why it petered out. Nobody really wants to listen to M gushing with an unknown charity head, or whoever worthy she has picked for that episode. She doesn't seem to have many A list friends any more.

Yes… creating content is hugely difficult to do well. It looks easy but it isn’t.

When you have sunk to the level of interviewing Jameela Jamil, there really is nowhere to go.

Freefall212 · 17/06/2023 12:44

Meghan likley did understand the importance of contracts but that doesn't mean she is capable of fulfilling the work requirement. The contract was just too big, and overshot their popularity. It would have been better if they had a smaller contract that they could meet, see what their base was like and then build from there. Stepping into $100m and $20m contracts is a lot for anyone. These two do not have the business background or professional acumen or managerial skills to pull off these giant projects. They have a revolving door of staff, they struggle to create content, they have a small loyal fan base but that fan base is mostly those who are RF fans and who went with them, not a fan base based on anything else.

Their tell all, airing dirty laundry, we are the victims, everyone is out to get us, we will publicly spill all our grievances approach doesn't help their cause it is going ot make people cautious in working with them, especially if their reputation with their current projects isn't stellar.

H and M, Netflix and Spotify all overshot their potential. They have name recognition, a tarnished link to the RF, and a small group of loyal fans who loved Diana and her boys.

They need to go smaller scale, reset their expectations, think of themselves as B/C list millionaires, not A list billionaires, and find what their base will pay for. And while they do have haters, I think there are also a lot of people like me, where if they actually did something interesting and worth watching that was suited to who they really are, I would watch it. They need to start small and work up. They need to narrow their focus to what they are passionate about and stop making it about them.

I’m not a big fan of H&M generally after the furore….

However, when I opened DM app (no surprise), the top story is

”Downcast duchess: Make-up free Meghan looks glum… fucking grifter”

followed by

Kate is gorgeous in green!.. elegant display
Stealing the show again! - George etc
Sophie stuns in white!
Camilla is inspired!

I mean the timing is uncanny, and the juxtaposition of the headlines….

While I do think H&M created a monstrous fuss and were ungrateful for their privilege.

I also think we’re all being had, pulled into an orchestrated mirage to continue supporting the monarchy enabling them to keep their millions and way of life.

As for Spotify, shit happens and sometimes business deals don’t work out. The guy who has publicly smeared them is unprofessional.

It’s an unusual turn of events because usually H&M like to release stories of their own which coincide with events and occasions involving the RL, so they then both dominate the headlines. Today’s Trooping the Colour and instead of something positive about H&M and/or negative of the RF it’s the other way round.

Howsimplywonderful · 17/06/2023 12:50

The problem is they are going to find it difficult to score another big value deal after those telling comments.

Italiangirlinlondon · 17/06/2023 12:51

TrashyPanda · 17/06/2023 12:41

Maybe some confusion here. He was the one who signed them and worked with them, so that’s where his comment comes from . Head is Spotify podcast content is his main gig.

ProfessorXtra · 17/06/2023 12:51

willWillSmithsmith · 17/06/2023 11:46

It’s no worse that H&M both alluding they have more to tell. H with his supposed left out stuff from his first book and M with her veiled threats in The Cut. No mixed feelings here, the sooner those two are taken down a few pegs the better.

I agree. That’s why I said I have no sympathy for H&M.

i even pointed out, about the dropping hints.
