No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

What is a grifter ? What does that term mean ?

Someone who scams people

MamoruHisaishi · 17/06/2023 11:24

They're only getting a taste of their own medicine after doing the exact same thing to harry’s family. After their supporters attacked the sussexes staff for being lazy and not up to meghan’s work standards, as a justification for the sussxes bullying behaviour, this so funny to see. I guess karma does indeed exist.

It sounds like they were oversold to Spotify (and probably Netflix) by whoever was negotiating on their behalf. Named executives would have put their necks on the line in agreeing to handing over millions. Even for a profitable business, it must be frustrating when you realise that they are duds and you have been grifted.

Spotify executives work with celebrities all the time some of whom will be a nightmare. If you can't handle it, you should not be in the job.

Well either the exec or the celeb shouldn't be in the job. I guess Spotify made its choice.

Screamingabdabz · 17/06/2023 11:30

They are grifters. He has summed up in one word what most people already suspected.

YouJustDoYou · 17/06/2023 11:30

It's delicious. They deserve it, horrible pair.

Elior · 17/06/2023 11:30

Imagine how many super talented people could have been promoted using a fraction of that budget?
I hope it will trigger a cultural shift in recognizing, nurturing and rewarding real talent rather than championing the privileged, uncreative PR products for the automatic audiences and self generated publicity they bring.

MamoruHisaishi · 17/06/2023 11:30

The Americans bought into their narrative that they were these mega stars whose wings and creative output and work ethic were clipped by the royal family so they wouldn't outshine the heir and his wife. These American companies chose to disregard the numerous complaints about them from professionals who worked with them, as being stubborn and refusing to listen and work well with others. I guess they found out for themselves that there was actually merit to these complaints, and it wasn't just due to racism or jealousy.

FloofCloud · 17/06/2023 11:30

These two clowns have made money out of spouting all their gossip and interactions with anyone who will turn a dollar for them, so I've got no issue with people making money out of the interactions they've had with MM/PH - it's a hilarious turn around if they do that 🤣 they'll get a taste of their own foul medicine!!

Spotify have reduced podcasts post-pandemic.

The Obama's deal wasn't renewed either.

No, it was the Obamas' decision not to renew because they wanted a wider distribution of platforms than just Spotify which they found too restrictive. So when their contract ended, they declined to extend it.
It wasn't Spotify that didn't want to renew.

Hohohogreenjennie · 17/06/2023 11:36

Wow, he’s really annoyed this guy. Would love to know what actually happened between them to receive that type of reaction.

Samcro · 17/06/2023 11:36

who cares. never heard of him and he sounds like a knob.

Italiangirlinlondon · 17/06/2023 11:36

I think it’s quite comical and don’t really take issue with someone being honest about their true thoughts. I suspect also it’s true. They wanted the money , promised loads of work to get it, and didn’t come up with the goods.

a grifter is a conman, a swindler. And clearly that’s what he thinks they are. A paid off scammers, who got money on a promise.and didn’t deliver.

if that’s his opinion, I can’t see the issue. I highly doubt there is a law suit pending, as it’s highly likely he can prove his point.

Didn't the Obamas finish off their contract with Spotify first before they decided not to renew? And didn't they already have Audible lined up when this news was announced? I don't think this was the end of the Sussexss contract with Spotify, and wasnt renewed. I think they were let go, and as it was originally leaked in the WSJ, the Sussexes aren't going to be paid in full as per their original agreement due to not reaching their productivity target. That lines up with what this Spotify executive is saying. The sussexes werent making them money, so they were let go.

Same. Palace staff can be hushed up for the good of the monarchy but nobody would reprimand a Californian for exercising their free speech. He cannot say all that without giving his reasons.

Italiangirlinlondon · 17/06/2023 11:40

Also need to remember, Netflix alluded the same, they were just politer. They said they’d spent to much money on them and then it was reported from folks who worked on their documentary series they were an utter nightmare to work with, always changing their minds, reneging on what was agreed, wanting it scripted etc,

i strongly suspect not much more coming out from Netflix.

Seems about right. Lol

Oh I think people in the business would care. It shows that these two aren't worth the money they were offered, and that would make it less likely for other companies to offer them similar multi million dollar deals that they got from spotify and Netflix.

Cam22 · 17/06/2023 11:43

Grifter appears to be their middle name on Twitter…

I really don’t think you can say it was particularly unprofessional when he’s speaking about a bloke who has happily shovelled shit all over his family, who are in the strange position of not being able to put forward their own version of events. If you want to tell your “truth” expect others to do the same.

Well that's a good point. I don't think they can complain someone telling the truth about how they find them.

Gracewithoutend · 17/06/2023 11:44

Samcro · 17/06/2023 11:36

who cares. never heard of him and he sounds like a knob.

Oh well, if you've never heard of him he mustn't be on the list of the most powerful podcasters, who founded a website and podcast network called The Ringer which he sold to Spotify for $250m, earning himself $100m and who has one of the most popular sports podcast and earns $8m pa.

I'm sure your thoughts on him are like a dagger in the heart.

I have really mixed feelings on this.

It was unprofessional. I didn’t like the hint that he knows more and will spill it when drunk at a later period. I think whatever happened should have remained private.

However, I don’t have sympathy for H&M as they also ignored others privacy and also kept dropping hints about how they had more to tell.

It’s no worse that H&M both alluding they have more to tell. H with his supposed left out stuff from his first book and M with her veiled threats in The Cut. No mixed feelings here, the sooner those two are taken down a few pegs the better.
