No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

She has talked about herself as a lifelong activist, and politics would be an obvious choice of career for an activist.

That does make sense.

Doing this with Harry in tow is currently problematic, however.

Doing anything with him in tow could be problematic.

I wonder if she still thinks she bagged a keeper or if she got a Prince in a poke.

Good grief, stuck with that whinging man child. The worst birth partner ever as well.

Maireas · 25/06/2023 17:10

Roussette · 25/06/2023 17:02

I never said it was offensive???!

I just said I was puzzled but there was so much talking about it, like it was going to happen

I never said you said that.
My point is, this is just a harmless discussion. Not problematic in any way. It's fine.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 17:14

I think people are just speculating about what Harry and Meghan might do next, given they need to earn significant amounts of money.

Personally I think Meghan is over-stating her activist credentials, she hasn't been camping out in a tree with Swampy. But taking her claims at face value, politics could be a next step. She would need to be able to shrug off a lot of criticism, and I am not sure using a title would go down well in the USA?

Wow!

And that’s as a guest. I’m assuming you have knowledge and experience around the topic? Being in charge of the entire podcast based on an area of interest rather than experience and expertise would be much more intense.

I have some experience too, and it's hard work. You need to know your stuff, or you pay other people to. But wasn't Harry employing a staff?

No, running as “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” would not go down well here. And I was told by her supporters on another thread that this is her legal name so she should happily use it.

I think the $ included funds to hire staff, etc. I think you could give me millions to make something like this happen, in a field where I am an expert, and it would still be very difficult even if I was willing to stop everything else and focus on it.

They make it sound fun, but there's a lot of work behind that.

They are currently advertising for a researcher, I see!

Another example is the excellent “You’re Dead To Me” by Greg Jenner. He’s spoken recently about how people always ask him to do more, but it takes him 8 months’ work to produce 10 episodes for a series.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 17:32

I love 'You're Dead to Me'!

And I will check out the job advert for The Rest is History, although I suspect I am completely unqualified except for a history degree 😀

It's a title, which is not a name as such. She could use Meghan Sussex; Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor; or even Meghan Markle

Howsimplywonderful · 25/06/2023 17:34

@Milcar

There was a great interview with the hosts, one of whom (Tom Holland) didn’t do history at university but just loved it

it would be a dream job

AutumnCrow · 25/06/2023 17:34

It's a rookie mistake, not knowing when to say, 'no, I can't do that' - i.e. 'no, I cannot go into contract with you over that because I do not have the time / resources / knowledge to provide a return on your investment that also is good for me'.

Oh yes, I understand that. It was definitely not me referring to it as a legal name.

That does make sense.

Yes. It would have been a bit tricky in the immediate aftermath of leaving the RF. But with the passage of time, and if focussed domestically in the US, I think it could work now. Providing of course she is ready to be pretty direct/incisive - the broadbrush approach (which was I think right initially) isn't really cuttiing the mustard now.

Qat · 25/06/2023 21:10

Given that America voted for Trump as president I think Megan has every chance. Apart from the fact that America doesn't elect women to that position. I'd be impressed if she could overcome that history.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 21:41

I think a large part of Trump's appeal was that he is racist and sexist. If so Meghan wouldn't stand a chance, through no fault of her own. In the 2016 election is became apparent that Trump boasted of of grabbing women by the p*y, and he had various extra-marital relationships as well a divorces - and the conservative evangelicals still voted for him. There were women going on camera to say they would never vote for a female president as the Bible (in their interpretation) says women should not be in positions of leadership. That was despite the same segments of the population not supporting divorce, for example.

I think there are all sorts of barriers to Meghan being a successful politician in the US - her personal qualities don't stack up, but even more the electorate. The Obamas were truly exceptional.

dontchaknow · 25/06/2023 21:48

She was a jobbing actress until she got together with Harry. Now she is an internationally known person. Wouldn't that help with a political career?
They voted Trump in, who'd have believed that? Last time, they had a choice between Trump - demented - and Biden - dementia. So, whilst I'm struggling to believe it, I would think she might have a shot. But she'd have to dump the Ginger Whinger first.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 21:52

I think the sexism and racism would trump (so to speak!) being famous.

dontchaknow · 25/06/2023 22:53

My old Dad once said..... don't read on if you are sensitive.... that nutsness is hereditary. America was founded on religious nutcases. They buggered off from England, as in the Pilgrim Fathers, because they didn't fit in in England. And many others from other countries followed them for kind of the same reasons. They were either running away from trouble in their homelands, so basically criminals, or they were religious nutters. And, so he says, that why Americans are, well, nuts. A

AliceOlive · 25/06/2023 22:55

😂😂😂

dontchaknow · 25/06/2023 22:57

Sorry, posted too soon. And that's why, he says, "the yanks are nuts, or criminal, or both, and it's hereditary". Who knows? But seems to me that Harry fits right in....

Gracewithoutend · 25/06/2023 23:01

@dontchaknow 😂😂😂🤣

That's so funny. That you your dad had a think and came up the medical diagnosis complete with the theory to back it up.

I absolutely love it! Dads are so brilliant.

dontchaknow · 25/06/2023 23:06

Yeah. My Dad is great. Still going strong at age 95. Broke his hip recently, helping his lady friend up after she fell, then she fell on him. So good luck to him and his prejudices. Sorry off topic.

Aw, bless him. Best wishes to him.
