No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

And Reagan.

Ignore me. I really should RTFT.

And as for actors becoming politicians - Glenda Jackson.

You're absolutely right - I'd forgotten that

23 years as Hampstead and Highgate's MP apparently

WinnieTheW0rm · 25/06/2023 13:55

Gracewithoutend · 25/06/2023 09:08

I hope she doesn't. If she was on the verge of suicide from the UK press, she'd never make it to inauguration day with the entire world's press out to get her.

Politicians need the hides of rhinos. I don't think Meghan would enjoy it all.

Completely agree - she does not have the coping skills for that, and (whatever her policies) there will be ridicule if she continues to blame unfair press coverage (or "fake news" as it has been called previously in politics)

Also, politicians need to be able to cut deals in which discretion is key. I think the "tell all" approach will count against her - especially a history of telling an idiosyncratic and subjective "truth" that does not tally with known facts. I am not sure she would be considered reliable enough, even for state level positions in California.

SidekickSylvia · 25/06/2023 14:08

Isn't Meghan a 'collapsed on the floor, sobbing' type of gal? (According to the truth meister Prince Harry). I doubt very much that's the type of mettle the American public are looking for in a president.

Serenster · 25/06/2023 14:13

Also, given Meghan chafed at Palace staff holding her passport and car keys for safekeeping and administrative ease. she may well want to rethink her presidential ambitions. They don’t even get to spend their own money.

Roussette · 25/06/2023 14:21

I didn't even know she had presidential ambitions to rethink. Except on MN of course 😂

Elsewhere? Nah

But considering the standard of the last couple of presidents….

AutumnCrow · 25/06/2023 14:31

In a way, Harry's portrayal of Meghan as the 'collapsed on the floor sobbing' persona is its own 'archetype' (i.e. stereotype), that in the medium-to-long term isn't going to do her any favours at all.

We have Harry the protector. 'I had to do everything to protect my family.'

And Meghan who needed to be protected. Meghan on the floor crying. Meghan wanting to take her own life. Meghan not thriving.

They didn't think through anything but the short-term gains of creating / divulging this narrative. I think it leaves Meghan actually quite exposed, yet again, in terms of developing a new career where she'd be expected to be a bit of a tough nut, whether that be politics, production, management, or entrepreneurial partnerships.

AutumnCrow · 25/06/2023 14:33

But considering the standard of the last couple of presidents….

Well yes. But she'd still have to be adopted as the official Democratic or Republican candidate (presumably the former). She simply has nowhere near the kind of money required to run as an independent.

Re the podcast expectations. They built a studio for them? I didn’t know that.

Surely Spotify were expecting content to be produced regularly. Like a radio show, not a just a dozen sessions.

I have a neighbor with a popular podcast in a specific space. He doesn’t just go into the studio and start talking. Nor does every podcast require a massive team of people and interviews with weeks of prep ahead of time. That would take too long for each episode. He drops a show per day.

It seems extremely difficult and has to be treated like a full time job.

Howsimplywonderful · 25/06/2023 14:44

Meghan did meet with Gordon Getty, who is a King maker in California politics, and who will be key in deciding who gets Diane Feinsteins seat

MM has hired former staff of Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton so she has thought about it.

it all depends on their bank balance at the moment

AutumnCrow · 25/06/2023 15:11

But can you imagine, if she did run for election, what the opposing candidate's campaign ads would look like?

They play dirty in the US.

There will be the ominous voice over.

SHE WANTS YOUR VOTE!

<cuts to background music of the Pretenders' 'Stop Your Sobbing'>

<cuts to clips of H&M talking about finding her on the floor crying>

SHE WANTS YOUR TRUST!

<cuts to Meghan saying they were 'married' 3 days before the wedding, and the Archbishop's statement refuting that>

SHE WANTS THE POWER!

<cuts to Meghan saying plaintively, in Africa, 'no-one asked me if I'm OK'>

And on and on and on ...

It's so easy for female candidates to be picked off as 'weak' by these sexist campaigns. If she ropes Harry in they'll play the 'he broke my necklace' stuff on a loop. They need to very carefully assess these potential attack lines, as any potential backers will have already been doing.

Roussette · 25/06/2023 15:15

People are talking on here like she is doing this???

I'm puzzled but maybe because she's quiet, it's all there is to talk about!
Gosh... the 3 days before wedding! We are scraping the barrel here!

It'll be 🥑 next!

Maireas · 25/06/2023 15:15

As I said upthread, I actually think Meghan is tough. I think she could push through if she wanted to.
However, I very much doubt she would run for president. She may have her eyes on a different prize.

I think she should aim for whatever she wants to. It's a free country. But she needs good, astute advisers now, and to listen their assessments of potential dangers.

LadyMuckingabout · 25/06/2023 16:42

I agree that Meghan can run for President - she’s entitled to and I think some sort of political aim was in the plan. Doing this with Harry in tow is currently problematic, however.

Maireas · 25/06/2023 16:50

It's a discussion, @Roussette , of course we've no idea if she'll run for office or not. No one is being offensive, it's just speculation.

grass321 · 25/06/2023 16:52

It seems extremely difficult and has to be treated like a full time job.

I was a guest on a podcast recently. It was investment related so not as straightforward as I'd find talking about general lifestyle stuff. But it took me about 30-40 hours to prepare half an hour of content. Plus a pre meeting with the producer and a separate video and audio meeting.

You're right, it would be similar to a full time job. Can't say I'd be rushing to sign up for another any time soon either.

ArcaneWireless · 25/06/2023 16:56

Doing anything with him in tow could be problematic.

I wonder if she still thinks she bagged a keeper or if she got a Prince in a poke.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 16:56

I enjoy The Rest is History podcast - they are definitely well prepared, have done their research, and produce 2 or 3 podcasts per week. It is very successful, but not something they dip in and out of as it suits them.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 16:57

They make it sound fun, but there's a lot of work behind that.

That's a good podcast series.

Wow!

And that’s as a guest. I’m assuming you have knowledge and experience around the topic? Being in charge of the entire podcast based on an area of interest rather than experience and expertise would be much more intense.

I never said it was offensive???!

I just said I was puzzled but there was so much talking about it, like it was going to happen
