No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

You know a lot about his business. I know far less than you, but the one thing I do know is...I would avoid him like the plague for unprofessionalism. (Not that little old me would be in that sphere, but I imagine others are, and feel the same)

As I said he got sacked from ESPN a few years ago. So he has a history. I'm pretty sure they're still sniping at each other. 😆

But he's good at what he does. You don't have his achievements without knowing the ins and outs of just about everything to do with the business. For some companies that will be good enough.

Serenster · 25/06/2023 10:58

That’s all your personal assumptions though, Marcel Proust.

The WSJ article says:

Archewell didn’t make good on all of the terms of the Spotify deal, which included each of the Sussexes voicing and being directly involved in a podcast. Harry, in particular, struggled to land on an idea.
He explored a podcast on veterans but couldn’t find a compelling way to tackle the subject in podcast form. He tossed around subjects such as misinformation and his point of view as someone new to living in America, and at one point considered co-hosting a show with comedian Hasan Minhaj.

BoohooWoohoo · 25/06/2023 11:02

Spotify announced a deal with the couple.
Meghan conpleted a series.
Harry did the Christmas special and a tiny cameo on Meghan's series.
It's not unreasonable to assume that Harry not producing anything is a problem for Spotify.

At the point that the deal was announced Spotify may not have specified that each of them do a different series and may have been happy with a joint series but I think that Harry has definitely let the side down here by creating nothing.

BoohooWoohoo · 25/06/2023 11:03

I am surprised that their pitch to Spotify wouldn't include some ideas about content?

This whole furore actually paints Meghan in a better light in that she actually produced a series, whereas Harry did not. However if you compare them to some of the (more niche) podcasts I listen to, 12 episodes represents approx 6 months work. These people also have at least part jobs to sustain them and young families. They do the research themselves and don't have a production team.

Financially, H&M are laughing all the way to the bank here getting to keep basically all the money for very little output. Spotify made a real blunder here. Podcasts are amazing, but they were never going to bring in lots of new subscribers.

I think recently at just about every story that has arisen about Harry and Meghan, Meghan has come out of it better.

I think Spotify, or maybe a source, said they wouldn't receive their full money. But Spotify has built a nice studio for them at their house so they walk away nicely equipped for future podcasts.

I wonder if Harry knows where the studio is? 🤣

I don’t think celebrities should become politicians, they are very rarely good at it!

Milcar · 25/06/2023 11:07

Well, Ronald Regan was. But in general I agree with you!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2023 11:08

I can only hope the American people are smarter than the idea of voting for a d-list actress to any important office

Well they made Reagan president, but politics is a dirtier business than most and I'm not convinced Meghan could stand the heat of constant public jibes from those with more power than herself

I guess it would solve the issue of security provision though ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2023 11:08

Snap, milcar Grin

Serenster · 25/06/2023 11:12

Reagan had a good 20 years of political activity, including being President of the Screen Actors Guild Union and Governor of California before he ran for the president though - he didn’t come straight from acting.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is probably more of a headscratcher!

Milcar · 25/06/2023 11:13

😀

Yes, anyone running for political office needs a thick skin and a constructive way of dealing with attacks, including the dirty tricks attacks. It is wrong that the dirty tricks/misogynist/racist/etc attacks happen, but sadly they do. Hilary Clinton being one example.

Milcar · 25/06/2023 11:13

Arnie is a better example, I agree!

Milcar · 25/06/2023 11:14

Example of @Serenster 's headscratcher I mean, not of dirty tricks!

Sorry, but I'm missing the part where Spotify reps are saying all this.

Oh yes, those trickly down economics really worked for the poorer in society....

I completely agree about his politics and policies. My point was about celebs/ actors 'don't make successful politicians'.

He was very successful - and in my opinion very damaging. An argument for celeb/actors NOT to go into politics!

Ahhh sorry, I misunderstood. Yes agree. The orange Doofus has been enough for one lifetime!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2023 11:44

Arnold Schwarzenegger is probably more of a headscratcher!

Or Clint Eastwood as mayor of Carmel!! Confused

It's perfectly true that Reagan did a lot more post-acting, but it's still the image that dragged around after him with very many

AutumnCrow · 25/06/2023 11:56

Ahem, the President of Ukraine?

Howsimplywonderful · 25/06/2023 11:59

Ronald Reagan worked as a motivational speaker GE for years , it was estimated he spoke more than 250,000 people in 135 locations over that time, so was pretty good at effective public speaking.

He also was apparently a sports announcer which is how he got his break.

He also delegated (which was a change from Carter)

I completely disagree with his politics, but he was an interesting character.

Yep raising over a million for charity.

Another one coming up soon.

Ah yes, Prince Harry the voice of sustainability and climate change, playing one of the most climate-damaging sports there is!

And as for actors becoming politicians - Glenda Jackson.

Good point! Although I recognise Churchill as an amazing wartime leader while abhorring his politics...

sashagabadon · 25/06/2023 12:19

Glenda Jackson was an actress as is/ was the Corrie actress Tracy brabin

Blossomtoes · 25/06/2023 12:27
