H&M vs Backgrid

PicturesOfDogs · 18/05/2023 20:51

H&M have apparently ’demanded’ pap footage from Backgrid, according to TMZ.

Their lawyer has replied with the following:

In America, as I'm sure you know, property belongs to the owner of it: Third parties cannot just demand it be given to them, as perhaps Kings can do. Perhaps you should sit down with your client and advise them that his English rules of royal prerogative to demand that the citizenry hand over their property to the Crown were rejected by this country long ago. We stand by our founding fathers

Court case #6 incoming?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Demand Photo Agency Give Them Footage of 'Chase'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to put the squeeze on a photo agency that claimed their freelance paparazzi who followed the couple Tuesday night were not, as M&H claimed, "highly aggressive" and didn't cause a near-collision.

I did not know where the belief that she wrote her own bio came from. She may have, but I can’t find evidence of it. Can anyone else?

the poster who raised this said the other bios were identical to the info on the individuals’ websites. So it makes sense that they were asked to provide their own background info.

and nobody else would describe Meghan as “one of the most powerful women in the world”. Because it’s blatantly untrue and looks ridiculous and through credibility to the winds.

mixedrecycling · 26/05/2023 07:49

I agree that she is one of the most well-known women in the global north (that's an inadequate description as it is generally taken to include e.g. Australia & New Zealand, but it is difficult to find a description - high income countries? more developed nations? the English-speaking world?)

Whether she can turn that into influence, and achieve anything with it is the question. Time will tell. I hope she can make something productive out of the situation - the other women listed were very impressive.

I’ve looked at LaTosha Brown’s website and no, not identical to the bio on the Ms 2023 site. LaTosha Brown’s achievements are considerable, to say the least.

I’ve looked at Sussex royal website, and Sussex royal Instagram, and Archewell and there’s nothing about Meghan being ‘one of the most powerful’ so, someone else could have written it/ likely did write it:

As I said before, I don’t think ‘she’s one of the most powerful’ etc but there’s a whole heap of bullshit out there written for the sole purpose of discrediting her.

TrashyPanda · 26/05/2023 09:49

Maybe it was added because otherwise her achievements were rather sparse compared to all the other winners?

all bios would surely be sent to nominees to fact check etc?

Howsimplywonderful · 26/05/2023 09:52

@Morestrangerthings

I do remember Serenster posting the ‘talking points’ sent by Meghan’s publicist to various magazine publications like goodhousekeeping. they all used the talking points word for word which drew attention to it. It read very much the same as the bio in the awards.

I don’t have advanced search to find it for you, but it’s probably on one of these threads.

PicturesOfDogs · 26/05/2023 09:55

One of the most powerful women in the world? That’s just ridiculous.

It doesn’t matter who wrote it, the fact that someone did is actually quite insulting.

She didn’t make her name being powerful. She made it by complaining about being powerless

She is powerful as media click bait.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/05/2023 10:31

That book was absolutely terrible

Not having read it I couldn't say, but I do sometimes wonder if some have bought it, not because it appeals or even for their kids, but simply because it's Meghan and they want to be seen as supporters

I couldn't say who wrote her bio either, but as for the claim that she's "one of the most powerful women in the world", didn't Meghan assure us that people were "filled with light" when comparing her to Mandela and "dancing in the streets" as they did over him? Hmm

Howsimplywonderful · 26/05/2023 10:45

@Puzzledandpissedoff

It’s a 17 page picture page book with a handful of lines, badly written, with lines like ‘For the man and the boy who make my heart pump pump’ and “He’ll run and he’ll fall. And he’ll take it in stride.”

I do remember an avid Meghan poster saying she got her 12 year old to do a comprehension assignment on it, which is probably my favourite post on mumsnet ever.

It should have been returned by the editor with a big fat no on it

Oh dear Grin ... guess I definitely won't be reading it then ...

So her heart didn’t pump before she met Harry?

which means she was heartless…

(I’ll get my coat…)

Past tense.

loved

Because that was years ago, before all the crap was spilt by them

No way of telling how those kids (who are probably adults now) feel about her now

Don't forget the most cringe worthy line in the book:

Right there on your bench/The place you’ll call home …/ With daddy and son … /Where you’ll never be ‘lone.

To this day, it never fails to make me cringe so hard from second hand embarrassment.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 26/05/2023 11:35

It did pump, but it didn’t go pump pump.

Do keep up! 😀

I think a good editor might have noticed how close this is to rumpy pumpy, but hey ho.

I don't see why you've posted this on two separate RF threads, especially since it's not exactly breaking news. You revived one thread that had petered out in January to post it, for some reason.
You also did the same (posting on two separate threads) about William being "vile" when he objected to a photographer following his family who were out on a bike ride.
I don't suppose it goes against the rules or anything, but it strikes me as odd.

It's up there with the woman who eats Weetabix once a year as a treat!
I had few arguments about the book on here. I wondered what age group it was supposed to appeal to. I would give it to Y6 as an example of doggerel.

Oh, I'd forgotten that gem 😁

In a similar vein she apparently had a plane crew member kneel next to her seat, doff their cap and thank her for her service to the UK on the flight out.

Might have been more believable had she landed the thing in an emergency or something 🙄😁

MamoruHisaishi · 26/05/2023 13:44

Even chatgpt can come up with a better kids book than the one Meghan wrote. I asked it to rewrite the bench:

In a cozy nook, your special space,
With daddy and you, a tender embrace,
Where stars twinkle bright, and dreams take flight,
Goodnight, dear child, in our love's warm light.

On a gentle bench, we find repose,
With daddy and son, as the moon softly glows,
No need to fear, for we're always near,
Goodnight, little one, sleep soundly, my dear.

In this cherished zone, where dreams softly roam,
Close your eyes, my darling, and drift off to your own,
With whispers of adventure and wonders to explore,
Goodnight, little one, may your dreams soar.

I still can't believe there were people willing to throw away all sense of logic and common sense, and fully believed her claim in the Oprah interview that her passport was taken away and she was basically held against her will by the palace, despite having travelled to New York just to have her baby shower.

Howsimplywonderful · 26/05/2023 14:07

@MamoruHisaishi

She made 13 personal trips while her passport was taken away from her 😀✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️

Most people don’t manage 13 trips while in possession of their passports

That plane story is so obviously a lie, it‘s actually funny. I think you have to have psychological or mental health issues to make up things like that.
