H&M vs Backgrid

PicturesOfDogs · 18/05/2023 20:51

H&M have apparently ’demanded’ pap footage from Backgrid, according to TMZ.

Their lawyer has replied with the following:

In America, as I'm sure you know, property belongs to the owner of it: Third parties cannot just demand it be given to them, as perhaps Kings can do. Perhaps you should sit down with your client and advise them that his English rules of royal prerogative to demand that the citizenry hand over their property to the Crown were rejected by this country long ago. We stand by our founding fathers

Court case #6 incoming?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Demand Photo Agency Give Them Footage of 'Chase'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to put the squeeze on a photo agency that claimed their freelance paparazzi who followed the couple Tuesday night were not, as M&H claimed, "highly aggressive" and didn't cause a near-collision.

The German voice over says its filmed by paparazzi during "the chase" though you never see H&M at all

Not trying to spoil things, but is there any certainty that the footage is of H&M's incident at all?
It wouldn't be the first time the media had presented an image as something it's not, and I just wondered if this could be the same

Apparently the man the police is talking to has been identified as part of their Security team from photos taken earlier that evening (not by me! I have read this, however)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/05/2023 12:28

Ah - thanks once again, Serenster; just didn't want to take too much as read ...

PicturesOfDogs · 24/05/2023 19:36

Just seen that the NYPD has said a few days ago that this incident ‘doesn’t warrant further investigation’.

Basically said no laws were broken by either the paparazzi or the security team.
I’m taking that as leave us alone now as we have far more important things to deal with.

Sounds about right. A non story exaggerated to achieve some Diana like victimhood. They need to just grow up. Meghan isn't Diana

Interesting from
NYPD.
I note that H&M have no more to say about it either .

They skipped the awards they were supposed to go to because they were not happy with how their near catastrophic incident was reported in the media.

was there another award thing going on?

Birchtrees · 24/05/2023 20:58

Apparently M was due to pick up an award for Archetypes .

Haywirecity · 24/05/2023 21:02

I heard they skipped the ceremony because she was too far down the list that she'd just be an also ran instead of receiving the, award in a prime spot. I also heard her getting a Ms Foundation award didn't go down very well with the other winners, either, who are actual activists for change rather than issuers of statements.

I watched an interview this weekend on the The ReidOut with La Tosha Brown who also received an award and didn’t get that impression. Perhaps the other nominees did but it would be out of character for them.

This is unsurprising now as it was one week ago when I said that the police would not investigate this incident because it is low level crime - the NYPD would be slated if they expended energy looking into this when there are bigger issues that they should be dealing with.

I didn't even realise other people got awards, I didn't see anyone else mentioned so I thought she was the only one presented with an award. I feel bad for the others.

Yes, there are about 9 pages of winners, and she's there on page 5 so very much not the centre of attention. Definitely not good enough for princess Meghan.

Haywirecity · 25/05/2023 00:23

5 others got an award, 3 of them the same as Meghan's.

One of the most powerful women in the world.

Hmm, it does seem the others have achieved a lot. And of course Meghan too. To be one of the most powerful women in the world is a great feat. I wonder what swung it for her. Being in Suits, doing fashion shoots, marrying the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, writing The Bench. It's a tough one.

AliceOlive · 25/05/2023 00:51

I live in a place where awards are given in order to get someone’s wealthy friends to buy a ticket to the event. People are asked to sit on charitable boards because they have piles money and it’s expected they will give it. When you don’t realize this is how it happens, you think the people getting the awards are doing more than everyone else.

It makes me sad that this is how and why a women’s organization would choose recognize any woman. One of the most powerful women in the world because of who they married? I don’t think Meghan has any kind of actual power, but even if she did this recognition would be upsetting.

Haywirecity · 25/05/2023 01:20

This information usually taken from their bios. And I know they write them themselves because LaTosha Brown wrote:
"There's a power in my voice. Its a divine gift that I use to connect different worlds."

Kimberley Maguire included information about her household.

So Meghan Marklr wrote this bio herself. These are what she considers her accomplishments in women's activism. Her podcasts and The Bench. Occasional visits to a foreign country. And a paid counsellor for one young world which is under investigating by the charity commission. And donating money that her husband has made through his family.

I like that Meghan is involved in charity work. I like that she gave money to women in Afghanistan and for the floods in Africa. But she isn't saying anything different than she's always said, she isn't doing anything more than she's done in the past. In fact she's probably doing less. So where we're her awards before? Why a sudden slew of awards now? Is it because Gloria is her new bestie and said last year she'd do anything to help Meghan? Or that the director of her documentary is a partner of the Kennedys who gave Meghan another award?

AliceOlive · 25/05/2023 01:27

It seems likely that it was to generate interest in the award and the organization.

TrashyPanda · 25/05/2023 07:20

As ever, Shakespeare said it best:

a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing

mixedrecycling · 25/05/2023 07:50

I thought you were going to post:
I have no spur
To prick the sides of my intent, but only
Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself,
And falls on th'other. . . .

I wonder why we didn't hear much (anything?) about them getting the awards? They sound amazing, MM has done stuff too and that isn't to take away from her but those women deserved to be celebrated by a wider audience. From what I saw on TV I really thought she was the only one getting an award or if there were others then hers was the top one, she was in a class of her own.

upinaballoon · 25/05/2023 11:18

'Best-selling author of "The Bench"'? Has it been a best-seller?
