Am I the only one who's uncomfortable with people constantly saying that the Royal Family lost their biggest asset in Meghan because having a person of colour on the Buckingham Palace balcony would've been a nod to our current society, who's more diverse. As a black woman, this is actually offensive (and I'm not even a fan o Meghan) but to me, it just proves to me that you see her as nothing more than a non-white token who can be used to make the Royal Family look more diverse

Yep. Same for me. I walked 5 miles this morning, expensive watch on. Not maybe a hike, but I did 15-20 miles a day up in the Peak District last year and wore it the whole time. I love Patek Phillipe watches, bet it's lovely. Mine is Ebel and I love it. (apart from servicing costs!)

The shit about the watch is it's evidence that this was a staged photo pretending to be a pap shot. It was done in a pathetic attempt just around the coronation to gain attention. The question is why on that date.

Re the watch itself. This is not just an expensive diamond watch. It is the watch owned and worn by Diana in iconic photos. It is not just an expensive watch it is a priceless watch. If it was auctioned would fetch in incredible amount of money because of its provenance. No one on their right mind would wear something like this on a hike. Fine. Just say it was staged. Don't pretend the scooter riding pap happened to find you on your hike on coronation week when the papers are full of the royal family.

We do know all that and you saying it again and again doesn't change everyone's opinions on here.

Don't care if it was staged or not to be honest. It's her watch and she can wear it when she wants.

Do comment on Kate wearing her Diana jewellery whilst rock climbing. Far more likely to damage doing that than walking.

My comment on the jewellery? It used to be Diana’s but she has been dead for over 25 years & those items now belong to her DILs who can wear their where they like. Both of them.

Totally agree. It's not 'disrespectful' or anything like that, as some posters like to say. If it is, Kate is disrespectful too. Works both ways.

I do think.... if that's all there is to criticise Meghan about, she's doing alright and I'm pleased for her.

Dipping my toe very gingerly into the churning water to point out that Meghan also has a Cartier tank watch she bought for herself - she spoke about it in interviews long before she met Harry. Maybe it’s her own purchase she’s risking? Maybe because she has two she’s not that bothered about keeping it pristine….?

I think the watch is a complete non-event. Who knows whether it was Diana's or why she wore it? I know a couple of people who wear expensive watches and other jewelry jogging etc it's a bit odd to me but not entirely unusual.

Why bizarre? Meghan has a bit of a track record for doing things to generate headlines just when one of the senior royals has an important engagement. If you Google it there are countless examples online.

Good for her. She's going to get written about anyway (Daily Express 44 full of bile articles in 24 hours recently) so why not do it on her terms.

There are always important engagements of some sort or another that posters or the DailyMail will manage to find. She can't win.

I look Black, although I’m ethnically mixed race and born in the UK. My grandparents were invited to come over from the Caribbean to help build back the UK after the war. I’ve never felt that Meghan or any other Black or mixed race person represents me.

Anyway, poor Meghan can’t win whatever she does.

Meghan is intelligent, confident, speaks well, has ambition and is inspirational. She also dresses well and everything looks good on her. She’s a threat to some people. Haters and racists will hate.

So I didn’t know this man before, he’s a paparazzi who supplied the photo to Backgrid, his initials are on some of the photos of the hike in the media, along with Backgrid. I don’t have Instagram to check his ‘stories’ which is where I gather this is from? So, hands up I don’t know how to check authenticity.

Hmm.. assuming he can be paid by celebs to take 'spontaneous' photos, he can just as easily be paid by the same celebs to insist they weren't set up. Not exactly a smoking gun.
