"The Royal Family lost a big asset" conversation

Am I the only one who's uncomfortable with people constantly saying that the Royal Family lost their biggest asset in Meghan because having a person of colour on the Buckingham Palace balcony would've been a nod to our current society, who's more diverse. As a black woman, this is actually offensive (and I'm not even a fan o Meghan) but to me, it just proves to me that you see her as nothing more than a non-white token who can be used to make the Royal Family look more diverse

I think there was a massive missed opportunity and if I were H&M I would have played it very differently. If you think back, Harry was hugely popular and showed over and over again that he had his mothers magic touch with people - he came across so relaxed and relatable in crowd situations, often showing up his overly stiff and formal, uncomfortable brother. He and Meghan really had some star quality and could have become real stars for the royal family - i should imagine they could have easily overshadowed William and Kate if that was ever their ambition. They could have been a real asset to the family and carved a niche for themsleves where they were relevant, loved and making a difference. Its a great shame really as there I cant see there ever being a way back.

He didn’t. He had someone who helped him with his PR, and now that Harry has been left to his own devices, he’s exposed himself and his true nature.

I think it really was only a matter of time before harry ended up this way. The palace did such a great job rehabilitating his image, from a racist drunk, drug taking womanising party boy, to that of the happy go lucky prince who was dedicated to charity.

At least with Diana, she knew how to read the room, she knew how to play the media/press, and she had a natural ability to figure out just what to say and do to keep the public on her side. Harry has none of her cunning and her EQ.

MamoruHisaishi - you have pretty much written a 10 k essay on this thread. This must be your passion project.

It beats doing the work I have to do, that's waiting for me.

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 14:14

@MamoruHisaishi I do not downplay sexism, that’s why I frequent the feminism boards and campaign on issues especially domestic violence. Meghan also endured the sexism all of the other women have. She had the added issue of racism, which incited an avalanche of repulsive racism on social media and threats to her and Archie. I don’t know what you’re talking about re former security and his issues with our shitty government, but I’m referring to more than one person involved with their security or that of the royals. I find your constant minimisation of racism really awful and that’s why I don’t normally respond, but to say to a feminist they downplay sexism just wasn’t going to fly today. I can probably bet my car you don’t spend anywhere near as much time as I do discussing and campaigning on feminist issues, those that affect all women and not just the exceedingly wealthy & privileged.

Isn't it amazing that William was so abstemious and perfect? Do you ever wonder why? They mixed together a lot. I know stories of them at a pub (could name it but won't) both steaming drunk. And I know this from people who go there. But funny how it's always Harry to be called these horrible names isn't it?
Nothing to do with William being the heir and Harry the spare of course....
A convenient foil Harry was

Howsimplywonderful · 10/05/2023 14:40

no one ever claimed William was perfect. We all knew he liked to have fun.

William just knew there was a line not to cross and partying naked with hookers and dealers in LV was so across that line 🤷‍♀️

Good you know he liked to have fun. There will have been much never revealed.

And yes Harry was wayward for a while, lucky media to pick up on that to sell papers.

How would you even know? I mean, Andrew didn’t know the line. The monarch and the heirs are protected in a way the spares are not.

Howsimplywonderful · 10/05/2023 16:53

@Whaeanui

If William was strolling around naked in Las Vegas with hookers, we’d know, ffs

Serenster · 10/05/2023 17:06

Good you know he liked to have fun. There will have been much never revealed.

William was in a stable relationship from his early 20s, remember? There are a lot of photos of him out, and very drunk…with Kate. That makes a big difference. (Although he was filmed dad-dancing and dipping another woman on the dance floor at a ski resort once. What a cad…!)

(and yes, if there was a market for information and photos of Harry behaving badly and cheating on his girlfriends - as there self evidentially was - there was clearly 10 times the market for that kind of dirt on William. Remember it was William and Kate’s phones that were hacked many many more times than Harry’s.)

I always have to laugh at his dad dancing. Even Kate was laughing about it in that BBC radio interview they did together. (Kate herself was also in Switzerland, she was on Pippa's hen party, they went in same private plane to and from).

Everybody acted like he did something scandalous : "he was in a nightclub, he was talking with another woman", "he was dad dancing".

Keeps amusing me.

Restinggoddess · 10/05/2023 17:34

Just a thought …the asset that the RF ‘lost’ couldn’t remember what day she was actually married. ( not a press headline she said it herself)

Harry - let his grandparents go to their grave with the racism tag hanging over the family. ( Ironic considering how Philip was treated by the establishment for being a foreigner) When asked about it, H said M hadn’t said racism in the interview - the press had!? Well, I saw Oprah’s face, it was clear what was being ‘alleged’

We are better off without the pair of them

Her family is her husband, children and Doria.
That is all she needs from the looks of it.

"needs" being the word ....at this time and place...

Roussette · 10/05/2023 13:30

Why on earth do you think I'm upset?! 😂 I'm on a discussion forum typing random thoughts, if it was upsetting for me, I would not be here!

To be honest with you, I thought Meghan looked a bit unkempt and not up together at all with the hiking picture, odd T shirt, she almost looked like she'd grabbed the nearest thing to wear. Apart from the hat, she rocks hats. Wish I did.

Kate was photographed doing rock climbing with very expensive jewellery on! I never gave it another thought, up to her!

But that's different. She can.
Meghan can't lol

Please... just because I don't get the point about this, or disagree, don't think I am upset. I'm not, I'm eating fruit gums typing random nonsense like everyone else on here !

Don't be silly now - Kate wore earrings from Accessorise , a High Street brand as she often does. She tailors her jewellery and clothing according to the event so as not to appear insensitive. She doesn't just "pop" them on 😂😂

I didn't say Kate popped anything on? Not sure what you mean.

There is criticism for Meghan wearing an expensive watch to go hiking. I just pointed out that Kate wore expensive jewellery when playing sport too.
Both women can wear what jewellery they want as far as I'm concerned. Hope you feel that too.

Howsimplywonderful · 10/05/2023 18:22

@Roussette

my Mum lost a diamond from her ring when out in the woods a few weeks ago. Many people (unfortunately not my mum) leave expensive jewellery at home for this reason. We were sharing tales of losing jewellery so it’s more common than you think, while expensive jewellery can be replaced, the sentiment cannot

Kate Sometimes leaves her ring at home, which does prompt posters to rush on here claiming they’re split

CharlotteStreetW1 · 10/05/2023 18:35

Roussette · 10/05/2023 13:12

Hmmm.... people do pop jewellery on as and when they fancy. I have something I wear (don't want to say what) and I pop it on when I fancy. When I'm in the mood.
But this is Meghan so I suppose everything is pre-planned for exposure and she never has random thoughts like the rest of the human race...

Ooh! Is it a tiara?

@Howsimplywonderful
I'd never think that but I also never take my jewellery off and even add to it!

Having said that, without going into detail of my bizarre story that I will dine off for years to come.... I lost a diamond out of a one stone ring (ring over 100 years old, small diamond) outside somewhere when on holiday (it could've been lost anywhere, I only realised it was missing when at a restaurant, thought I'd lost it on the bus journey there), but someone swept up their patio below the one I was staying at, and found it literally 4 days later, I thought it was gone forever, thank god I'd told this person I'd lost it.

I do have my ring settings checked every few years.

Really sorry your Mum was not so lucky.

polkadotdalmation · 10/05/2023 18:59

Half a dozen pages about a fucking watch, which anyone with an ounce of sense knows would not have been worn on a genuine hike.

Just like all the designer dresses worn in a poverty stricken african village.

As usual you divert from points made. You are so predictable in your dripping with honey posts 😂

I am at a loss to understand what you mean. Sorry. I have looked back and tried to answer you politely.

If you actually say what the point is, I am happy to answer.

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:12

There’s a few holes in this thread already from things verging into personal, can we not just stick to debating points?
