Am I the only one who's uncomfortable with people constantly saying that the Royal Family lost their biggest asset in Meghan because having a person of colour on the Buckingham Palace balcony would've been a nod to our current society, who's more diverse. As a black woman, this is actually offensive (and I'm not even a fan o Meghan) but to me, it just proves to me that you see her as nothing more than a non-white token who can be used to make the Royal Family look more diverse

“Aren’t most of you descended from pirates?” (to a wealthy islander in the Cayman Islands)

“It looks as if it was put in by an Indian” (referring to an old-fashioned fuse box in a factory near Edinburgh)

“Still throwing spears?” (question put to an Aboriginal Australian during a visit)

“There’s a lot of your family in tonight” (after looking at the name badge of businessman Atul Patel at a Palace reception for British Indians)

So said the very much not racist Prince Philip. But of course he didn't say anything about Archie - so that pretty much absolves of all the things he did before . Sure Jan. And the Queen and now the King? With their exemptions from Equality Act (and the Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay acts) Really? Come on.

I am looking forward to the Royal Report in June when the equality and diversity figures are discussed again. There has been two years when K&W's office have been the only one to not release them. We will see this year.

They don't provide specifics - of what was said, when, by whom. Or the 'daily' press leaks against them. It is all wonderfully deniable.

I think it would’ve been disrespectful if she’d really gone on a hike with Diana’s watch, like, totally careless. But she didn’t. She was styled, the watch was added to link her to Diana, it’s a million percent an arranged photo. If Kate wore Diana’s earrings on a ramble the Sussex stans would never forgive her 😂

She was involved with Harvest Home in LA recently and they were very grateful... she wore a black MaxMara coat costing $5,900... allowed I think!

I have noticed Kate wearing her engagement ring on occasions when she has been taking part in activities, and thought that I wouldn't risk that.

The value of the ring and watch are irrelevant - the fact is that both items have an incredibly sentimental connection to Diana which can't be valued.

Thank you, yes. That was my whole point. Kate wore her engagement ring whilst rock climbing. There are pics out there. No different to Meghan and her watch. Both belonged to Diana.

Back to the original topic I was thinking today of what a weird ask it is to diversify your family and how you’d “rectify” that exactly. Should they put up with Meghan and invite her into private situations they might not feel comfortable around anymore or would you expect the younger members to date on that basis? It’s such a weird and unreasonable ask, and patronising to Meghan or anyone who could join the family in future.

Why all this discussion about a watch? I have an expensive watch, a silver Patek Phillipe, not at MM level maybe, but still the most expensive thing I own. I wear it all the time, gardening, hiking, decorating - everywhere except in the bath or swimming. And that's because I didn't have it re waterproofed the last time it was serviced.
Would Meghan change into a cheaper one just to go hiking?
