I noticed that there was no thread on the live events of the Coronation itself. Thought I might start one.

The orchestra and the opera singer were magnificent. Brings chills in my opinion.

I’m looking forward to seeing William, Kate and their kids. I hope the news reports are untrue, and Kate gets to wear a tiara.

@canina , her sister Annabel Elliot and The Marchioness of Lansdowne

Rinoachicken · 06/05/2023 11:24

I don’t know who half the people are - I don’t feel the BBC have done a particularly good job of explaining who everyone is and what’s happening and the significance of things - I saw they put a QR code up earlier though - maybe that has more info on it

Wow, the Wales' look incredible.

I'm normally a big fan of Royal events but I'm not sure about this one, I think it's because I'm not overly keen on Charles, but it just seems a bit, well, much...

It’s not really anything to do with Charles as such - it’s about the continuity of the institution. He’s just the current incumbent

I agree. And barely a glimpse of William and Kate in their regalia! I've switched to ITV, it's a bit better.

Coronationcapers · 06/05/2023 11:25

I've just spotted Harry, Kate looks beautiful

MamoruHisaishi · 06/05/2023 11:26

I must admit the pomp and pageantry is getting to me. The Wales did not disappoint, they look more like what I envision as the king and queen to be crowned, also the kids look so grown up and gorgeous. I love the matching flower tiaras that kate and Charlotte have. The abbey looks stunning and I like the blue and yellow colours as an acknowledgment to Ukraine, and the choir sounds wonderful. I've been disappointed with the rest of the fashion though, also is it just me or does Camilla look either nervous or almost unhappy? Maybe it's just the nerves getting to her.

Holding the sword thing? That’s Penny Mordaunt - she’s got her work cut out holding that!

@Butterflyfluff thanks! Yeah it looks super heavy...

SchoolTripDrama · 06/05/2023 11:27

Can’t stand all this wailing in Latin. It sounds like they're just making random excruciating noises now

The QR code leads to the link for the order of service (which I think is what those in the Abbey are holding) - it's quite helpful

GoodVibesHere · 06/05/2023 11:28

Charles always looks knackered. Both of them just look a bit pissed off don't they, most of the time.

Most people do when they’re not smiling. You should see my grumpy resting face.

Rinoachicken · 06/05/2023 11:31

I am an Anglican, and also a history nut, but I do think they could have done away with a lot of this - much of it seems to be more about pushing the ‘superiority’ of the the CofE, and stroking the ABofC and other Bishops egos than about crowning the King -

canina · 06/05/2023 11:32

I thought they were both looking quite jolly - but then I'm a Scot 😄

Rinoachicken · 06/05/2023 11:32

They never usually have so much importance to the country these days - feels like they are taking the opportunity to make the most of it

MamoruHisaishi · 06/05/2023 11:33

Oh wow who are those group of singers? Their voices are so heavenly and I love how theyre dancing as well.

Taking their roles seriously perhaps?

Would be a bit strange if they were grinning like idiots Grin

piedbeauty · 06/05/2023 11:35

Love the gospel band! 😍

crumpet · 06/05/2023 11:36

There’s another watch along threat in chat too

Inkpotlover · 06/05/2023 11:37

Anyone else thinking it's weird to be watching a Royal ceremony without the Queen there? I keep expecting the camera to pan to her. For a diminutive woman, she had such a huge presence and the gap she's left is huge.

Well I wouldn't expect constant grinning (that would be silly Grin) but they do look ever so solemn, like it's a funeral. But I guess the celebratory bit comes later, on the balcony.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 06/05/2023 11:41

Probably coincidence, but I wonder if the yellow (gold) and blue carpet is a nod to Ukraine.

This might well be the case, but I'm really not a fan of the carpet and it creates a horrible colour clash with all the finary.

....My son said it's the colour of Ikea!

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 06/05/2023 11:49

Why were they behind screens for the annointing?

There's a hole in the floor where he can have a quick loo break at the same time.

Because it’s the sacred part between God and the King
