Have Diana’s sisters been invited?

His speech at Diana's funeral deeply pissed off the late Queen. That's why he's persona non grata with Charles.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 16:30

@IcedPurple Yep Diana's family have been frozen out now Camilla is on the scene. So it is Camilla's family who have got special roles in the Coronation. The mother of Charles's children is now irrelevant to him.

It’s nothing to do with that though! He’s William’s uncle! William is the heir to the throne.

He will more than likely be at that coronation. I don't know the protocol for heirs uncles and coronations but if it was a stipulation then he would be there.

Camilla is the Queen, so of course her children are going to have a special role in the ceremony in which she is crowned.

The brother of the King's ex wife doesn't compare. Putting aside for the moment the fact that this is a State event, not a private knees up, do most people here invite the siblings of ex spouses to important events in their lives decades after they were divorced? I've never heard of it.

Diana has been dead 26 years and they were divorced yes she is irrelevant to the coronation as Is her extended family. She would never have been queen anyway

@poppysockies Very nasty comment. Why besmirch someone badly treated by the Royal Family?
They did it to Diana, they are now doing it to her family.

So it's 'very nasty' to comment on Earl Spencer being absent from not one but both of his daughters' weddings?

But drawing conclusions from him not being invited to the State Coronation of his sister's ex husband is fine?

And how is he 'badly treated' by the royal family? He's a very wealthy aristocrat who seems quite capable of taking care of, and 'besmirching', himself. Portraying him as a victim is actually quite comical.

Paul Burrell described the events at Althorpe, after Diana's private burial there. The atmosphere was already decidedly frosty following the controversial speech, and then the Spencers turned on the television showing the 'funeral highlights' to hear the speech all over again; at which point Prince Charles made his excuses and left.

Samcro · 05/05/2023 17:37

Didn’t he refuse to let Diana live on the estate?

There was a particular cottage she wanted, which he wouldn't let her have. She was offered alternative properties but didn't want them. It caused a row between them.

"The mother of Charles's children is now irrelevant to him."

I hate to be the one who breaks the news to you, but she died in 1997.

Charles and Diana divorced. But Diana is still the mother of his children and the mother of William the Heir. The Royal Family want to pretend William and Harry's mother did not exist. That is what is distasteful.

William and Harry will be there, you know Diana's children. I don't know why not inviting her brother means they are pretending she didn't exist.

The hypocrisy is breathtaking actually.

King Charles is condemned because he had 1 affair during his marriage to Diana, and who has been married to "the other woman" for 18 years.

Meanwhile, we've to feel sorry for Charles Spencer who had multiple affairs during his first 2 marriages (driving his 1st wife to anorexia & alcohol addiction, and telling the judge during their divorce she was "certainly thick and thin".)

Yes. Earl Spencer is not a nice guy for many reasons. Like I said above, quite capable of 'besmirching' himself.

I get that some here will use any pretext to slag off 'the royals', but getting aggrieved on behalf of poor, helpless Earl Spencer is a new one!

pilates · 05/05/2023 21:02

I wouldn’t expect him to be

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 22:06

It is nasty because this is about who is invited. To then post lots of personal information about someone not invited is just muck raking.

TrashyPanda · 05/05/2023 22:12

Cant see any reason why Spencer should be invited to a slimmed-down coronation.

he can hardly hold Charles in contempt, given he has been divorced twice and had several affairs.

plus Diana wasn’t speaking to him or their mother when she died.

Who's posting 'lots of personal information'? Nobody has said anything that isn't in the public domain.

Poor Earl Spencer. Such a victim. It's bad enough not getting invited to the coronation of the man who divorced your late sister decades ago, but now people on MN are 'muck raking' too.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 22:22

Nobody is saying he is a victim? Why are you making things up?

But imagine if we said it was wrong that someone in Kate's Camilla's family was not invited. Do you really think it would be acceptable for someone to post in response lots of much raking details?
This is not about Spencer but about your approach. It is nasty.

Not sure what 'someone in Kate's family' has to do with anything.

I just think it's bizarre that people are getting personally aggrieved on behalf of the brother of the King's long divorced late ex wife, especially given that he didn't bother to attend either of his own daughters' weddings. There's no reason for him to be there.
