Have Diana’s sisters been invited?

OP posts:

There are extended members of the family are not invited like Lord Mountbatten’s family and he was like a grandfather to Charles so to not invite your ex-wife’s brother (regardless of his title) is not surprising

The whole congregation is a quarter of what it was at the Queen’s. Very stripped down.

But at least Ant and Dec got an invite 🙄

Please tell me you are joking.

Whaeanui · 05/05/2023 09:31

@Gilmorehill about Ant & Dec? No they’re invited. Despite Ants drink driving conviction he’s an ambassador with the princes trust since 2021- after his conviction which involved another car with a child inside.

I remember when Dec crashed into that family. He basically got a rap on the knuckles. I don’t think he even apologised to them.

Whaeanui · 05/05/2023 09:42

@Gilmorehill it was Ant. I think he apologised but it hasn’t affected his career at all has it. Now he’s at the coronation and an ambassador for the princes trust just a few years later.

One could say the same thing about Charles!

Oh absolutely!

rattymol · 05/05/2023 09:44

@LakeTiticaca I agree, this is personal.
He is the Heirs uncle. And some are trying to pretend he is distant family. They want to pretend Diana never existed.

CurlewKate · 05/05/2023 09:46

Sorry-Ant and Dec? Seriously?🤣

MrsFinkelstein · 05/05/2023 09:49

"Are Ant and Dec worthy?"

As Ambassadors for many years of The Princes Trust I'd say yes actually.

Since Charles Spencer didn't attend either of his 2 daughters recent weddings I dont really see an issue.

But any excuse to froth & criticise I suppose.

I cannot wait until Tuesday. (And its not because of the Coronation which I'm actually looking forward to, but so all the whingers about it will hopefully move on. Preferably to the Tories who actually deserve it.)

Would you invite your ex husbands brother to your wedding with your second husband? that would just be weird. I’m sure he’ll get an invite to Will’s coronation though as he’s his actual relative.

Greg was invited to Caroline’s second wedding (ex husband’s nephew).

The 3 nations of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are increasingly seeing their identity as nations free of the shackles of the centre ruled by London which lest we forget is where they actually live and where the Coronation takes place. OMG have you seen the state of the Scottish Govt lately? Are you English?

I'd say pretty obviously.

They just use us Scots as another reason to whinge without actually knowing anything about us. 🙄

I know. So patronising. Using us Scots as fodder for their agenda. They know nothing about £300,000,000 ferries rusting in shipyards, Peter Murrell's motorhome etc

Novella4 · 05/05/2023 10:01

1/3 in Scotland support the monarchy

With a few exceptions to prove the rule , the monarchy's support is made up of older English Tories

And as for the people in the tents ?
In several cases it felt exploitative to have put them on camera

I would have thought as an Earl he may have been deemed worthy of an invite.

Quite a lot of the nobility haven't been invited

I've seen a few commentary articles featuring pissed off Dukes

I'm not talking about support for the monarchy. I'm talking about patronising English people who talk about us Scots as 'other'. Are you Scottish?

I believe strongly in allowing people second chances but when you make mistakes, you should also show remorse and make amends, not just make a token apology. Sorry to go on but I think drink driving is appalling.

Whaeanui · 05/05/2023 10:23

@Gilmorehill yes I lost a friend whose car was hit by a drunk driver many years ago. Second chances yes, but maintaining an elevated privileged position I’m not keen on for something like this. It’s not a good look for the princes trust IMO.

Gymtastic · 05/05/2023 10:25

I think it’s right he’s not invited. There is no love lost there and it’s his ex’s brother. So his ex bil. From decades ago. He’s been marrried to Camilla for nearly 20 years,

I find it appalling how some folks are so obsessed with this man’s first marriage, plenty of folks get divorced and remarry, having folks banging on about inviting your ex bil decades later must be fucking wearying.

CathyorClaire · 05/05/2023 10:44

It can't really be surprising he hasn't got an invite after the speech he made at the funeral.

Charles obviously believes revenge is a dish best served cold.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/05/2023 10:49

It’s quite funny that the media have been banging on about wanting a slimmer Coronation, yet are having a drama every time someone isn’t invited.

it’s like they’ve not grasped you can’t slim down an event and invite everybody and their dog at the same time!

It's not just the media. Lots of posters on here twisting themselves in knots complaining about who hasn't been invited while still talking about the Monarchy modernising and slimming down.

They say they want it, then when they get it, it suddenly becomes "No, not THAT way, this other new way I've just thought of".

I saw it watching US politics over the past decade.

*We want a female POTUS!

  • Hillary Clinton says Hi!
  • No, not THAT female!.

*We want a black female VP!!

  • Kamala Harris says Hi!

*No, not THAT black female VP!!!

Charles and Diana divorced. But Diana is still the mother of his children and the mother of William the Heir. The Royal Family want to pretend William and Harry's mother did not exist. That is what is distasteful.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 12:55

@MrsFinkelstein Charles has invited various celebrities and not key members of his own family. That is what people are complaining about.
