Have Diana’s sisters been invited?

OP posts:

He wasn't invited to his daughters wedding so not sure he will be loosing sleep over the coronation

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 14:25

@rose That is just nasty. No one knows why he was not at the wedding.
This is what Royalists do, besmirch the reputation of anyone treated badly by the Royal Family. They did it with Diana and are now doing it with her family.

There are extended members of the family are not invited like Lord Mountbatten’s family and he was like a grandfather to Charles so to not invite your ex-wife’s brother (regardless of his title) is not surprising

The whole congregation is a quarter of what it was at the Queen’s. Very stripped down.

But at least Ant and Dec got an invite 🙄

This made me laugh 😃 A&D are patrons of the Princes trust so I think that is why they were invited and the King wanted to include people who were important to him.

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 14:40

He is the Uncle of William. That is the relationship.

It’s quite funny that the media have been banging on about wanting a slimmer Coronation, yet are having a drama every time someone isn’t invited.

it’s like they’ve not grasped you can’t slim down an event and invite everybody and their dog at the same time!

I must say I'm having a bit of a snigger at this thread too. Posters getting all personally offended on behalf of Earl Spencer, of all people!

EveryWitchWaybutLoose · 05/05/2023 14:42

I think it’s pretty rude - that the uncle of the Prince of Wales and brother of the woman who should be the Queen Consort, is not invited.

It appears to be quite a deliberate snub, which, given the back story of the adulterous King and Queen Consort, seems unwise.

Diana had 3 siblings. Why should her brother be invited and not her sisters?

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 14:44

The Coronation has not been slimmed down, that is a lie. Less people are invited to the Abbey because under health and safety rules they could not cram as many people in as they did for Elizabeth. But far more money is being spent than was spent on Elizabeth.

poppysockies · 05/05/2023 14:45

As others have said, the fact that he didn’t attend either of his own daughters weddings is more relevant

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 14:46

@poppysockies Very nasty comment. Why besmirch someone badly treated by the Royal Family?
They did it to Diana, they are now doing it to her family.

mondaytosunday · 05/05/2023 14:48

He was very anti Charles back in the day.

Mrsjayy · 05/05/2023 14:50

Yeah he wasn't a huge fan was he ,? And their was a definite rift after Diana died,

AskMeMore · 05/05/2023 14:53

He was against the boys walking behind the coffin and said so publicly.

Should be queen consort apart, that is from the small fact of a) her having been dead for 25 years and b) she was his ex-wife anyway so even if alive wouldn't have been QC.

Mrsjayy · 05/05/2023 14:59

He did and tbf he was right imo, I don't think him not being invited was a personal snub I just don't think there is any real reason for him to be at the coronation.

Mrsjayy · 05/05/2023 15:00

Oh forgot to quote my reply was about the funeral.

BasiliskStare · 05/05/2023 15:38

I can't get worked up about Earl Spencer not being invited. How much time has he spent on his "blood " nephews - no idea - but it does not appear from a distance he has taken them under his wing. Not indeed not turning up to his daughter's wedding. Hey ho - his choice but not sure he will be missed. I sort of think that had William wanted his there it may have happened - but obviously I do not know.

Fandabedodgy · 05/05/2023 15:39

I don't see why he would be invited.

Mossandlichen678 · 05/05/2023 16:05

Gymtastic · 05/05/2023 10:25

I think it’s right he’s not invited. There is no love lost there and it’s his ex’s brother. So his ex bil. From decades ago. He’s been marrried to Camilla for nearly 20 years,

I find it appalling how some folks are so obsessed with this man’s first marriage, plenty of folks get divorced and remarry, having folks banging on about inviting your ex bil decades later must be fucking wearying.

It’s nothing to do with that though! He’s William’s uncle! William is the heir to the throne.

Mossandlichen678 · 05/05/2023 16:08

I think I’d be pretty pissed off if I was closely related and didn’t receive an invitation and then saw Ant and Dec take up two seats fhs! It’s not the same as a wedding but how low can you go? And Lionel Richie? Hello? (See what I did there? 😃)

Samcro · 05/05/2023 16:10

i can't get my head around Ant being at the coronation.

pimplebum · 05/05/2023 16:18

How do you know who is invited??

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 05/05/2023 16:23

polkadotdalmation · 05/05/2023 08:11

Is he still alive? He wasn't in good health when Charles and Diana got married.

No , that one is dead. Diana’s brother is the Earl now…..

But he's not 'closely related'. He's the brother of the woman Charles divorced decades ago. And if you invited him, then surely you'd have to invite his two sisters too?

The Coronation is a State event, not a private party, and there are relatively few places available, so former in laws probably aren't going to be that high a priority.
