Climbing the social ladder (or career ladder) is easier for people who don't care about the people they step on or step over to get there. They just see them as a means to an end and forget about them after their usefulness is gone. Not an uncommon quality in CEOs, although often associated with narcissism

True enough, but as a general principle the trouble with pissing all over people on the way up is that folk can be apt to meet them on the way down again ...

LaMarschallin · 29/04/2023 16:07

I think Meghan is similar to Yoko Ono and Linda Mccattrey. They received a lot of hate from the public but both their husbands stood by the. Its misogony i suppose.

Those are definitely better comparisons than Jim D.
Not sure about the reason(s).

I catch up on these threads every now and then because I'm interested in - though not necessarily a supporter of - the RF, but don't know anybody else who is remotely interested (apart from a bit of fashion news or whatever).

Can't be bothered to post much these days as the arguments are always the same and usually end up with people, who seem to be on here a lot, telling other people, who are on here a lot, that they must have sad lives and need to look at themselves closely because they're on here a lot...

But do the French have to pay tax to a Royal Family?

Well, in a way. They pay to a president who is their head of state. And the presidency costs €100m a year.

polkadotdalmation · 29/04/2023 16:36

@LaMarschallin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I'm told by the people who are on here a lot, I'm always on here. I'm obsessed. I'm a hater. I post a few times on several threads at odd (tea break, waiting to collect kid from school) intervals, and so on, but I don't do twitter, Reddit, instagram, TikTok or any other SM except Facebook. Cancelled all those accounts as they are full of nutters.

I only post to get away from WFH.....🤣

This used to be true because everybody was agreed on basically a monotheistic paradigm of reward, punishment, redemption, forgiveness, self-correction. Unfortunately, in a global world, especially one where you are developing an online presence which is hard to check against your real character, people do get away with it if they move around a lot and constantly reinvent themselves, cutting ties as they go along.

That said, it is always easiest for the narcissist to thrive in their natural habitat especially if it also happens to be the place where their honed their skills in the beginning. They always tend to gravitate back towards showbizzy places where their personality flaws will be perceived as normalized behaviors.

Has Meghan be diagnosed as a narcissist? It's quite a serious personality disorder .

ITV is apparently doing a documentary on William this summer.

We will see, won't we, whether that garners 81 million views as Harry and Meghan's did.

After all, it is the Royal Family that sells.

People watched the Netflix documentary and because they wanted some salacious gossip, not because they like H or M. I know lots of people who watched the documentary who would never watch anything about the royal family.

But there wasn't loads of salacious gossip in the Netflix series.

Ooh, no. I don't even do FB.
I tried "the Twitters" once, as Marion Keyes had written an article calling it that and saying what good fun it was. Never really came to terms with it though and, reading about it here, am not convinced it is good fun.

Anyway, don't want to derail the thread, so will just say that I wonder if the change of agent signifies a change of direction. Interested to see what Meghan does next (a la Katie - loved those books).

Serenster · 29/04/2023 18:37

But there wasn't loads of salacious gossip in the Netflix series.

It was trailed as if there was! “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from ourselves?” plus dramatic images etc etc.

You don't read mumsnet often, do you? At least half of people's ex's and mils are narcissists. 😂

The President of France actually works, as in, runs the country!

Slightly different?

I would love to read that breakdown @Gilmorehill, that shows why people watched it.

It would be interesting - can you point me in the right direction?

I watched it because I'd read the book by Millie Dowler 's sister about press intrusion and I knew the documentary would cover that.

I know. We can sack all psychiatrists and just use Mumsnet.

This is what I was going to say. She has done very well at making and leveraging relationships with the right people for social climbing and status. It is defintiely something she is good at. She typically then drops the people once they can no longer help her purposes (family, husband, mulroney's etc).

She invited people to the wedding she barely knew but who had clout and status and then worked hard to get to know them to cash in on their status. I am not sure how one uses that skill / talent to make money but it is definitely a strength she has. Climbing the social ladder (or career ladder) is easier for people who don't care about the people they step on or step over to get there. They just see them as a means to an end and forget about them after their usefulness is gone. Not an uncommon quality in CEOs, although often associated with narcissism.

I am curious to see what talent they see her as having that can be used at the agency. Fame and name recognition for marrying rich might get you into a spot on Real Wives or talk show host. I wonder if that is the direction she wants to go?

I really hope that, if you have DCs, they do not cross paths with people like you.

It blows my mind how much satisfaction and unity tearing a woman (you don't know) to shreds can bring.

The RF work. It's just different duties. Same as the presidents of Germany or Ireland work but don't have the exact same role as KC or Macron.

They're all heads of states. They all work.

Right.

But the scary number of $100 million for a "Head of State" is apples and oranges territory?

Why? The French pay a lot of tax to their head of state and still have to pay entry fees to enter monuments. Why is that to be condemned if it's in the UK but not if it's in France? Why is it apples and oranges?

In what way? No one has said anything remotely racist.

Believe it or not you can dislike someone because of their actions and words.
If there is something racist, report it and it will be instantly deleted.

I am not tearing her to shreds. I believe in equality and that means that women are not all sweet, amazing, nurturing, kind, empathetic creatures who can only ever be praised and supported and can never be responsible for any choices they make. I look at her as a human, the same way I look at anyone. The qualities she has are the same as the qualities in many men who want and climb to get power. That isn't shredding someone - it is human nature and a personlity and drive that some men and women have. It does make them good CEOs and good in other roles where they can make decisions without getting emotions involved or caring about people below them. There is value in that. I am just not sure how it carries over to a talent agency.
