Archewells own tax return that is published on its own site says it's a public charity. But I guess you're so wedded to the idea that it's a private foundation that you don't believe Harry and Meghan. I don't know why you think they'd lie about it.

No it doesn’t. You don’t understand the system or the code. As it says in the title, it’s a FOUNDATION. There is no way to donate, the links send you to charities they support. Now enough. This thread isn’t about that, I linked the thread, go there. You’re not posting in good faith here @Nightlystroll you’ve posted a fake reddit letter despite it being identified as such weeks ago. Go to the appropriate thread.

What about the Obama Foundation and the Gates Foundation - they file their 990 forms similarly? Are they charities too? What government funding do Archewell, the Obama and the Gates Foundations receive? What direct public contributions have Archewell received? Do you know how to donate directly to Archewell as a member of the public? How about the charities that list themselves as charities - what government funding do they receive?

Both private foundations and public charities have charitable status. From reading about it, US charity law is quite complicated, particularly when deciding what falls into being a public charity. It's to do with paying tax. When Archewell applied for charity status, they themselves will have informed the IRS how they expect to fund themselves. The IRS then decides, based on all the information they've bern furnished with, what their status is.
As I have said, I have no idea whether the letter purporting to be from the IRS is fake or genuine, but the fact that all the codes are the same as on Archewell's 990 tax return - which Harry and Meghan have published on Archewells website so I think we can assume it's genuine - would indicate to me that the letter is genuine. That or the faker had very good inside information!

Oh my god 🤦🏾‍♀️ the codes are KNOWN. They’re not secret. That’s why they’ve used them on the fake letter. Do you actually in your mind think that a private letter from the IRS would be floating around? Let’s just start with that. Has someone intercepted the mail to get it? Why does it have the wrong name? Archewell Inc is not a ‘not for profit’, it includes all the for profit ventures so there is no way at all the IRS declared that a public charity. It’s also dated BEFORE the registration. It’s also only appeared on Reddit, its origin, and a batshit crazy website some lunatic runs. Not even the trashy tabloids have used this fake letter. Yes US charity law is complex but it’s very clear this is a private foundation and your conspiracy theory you’ve read up about on Reddit is stupid nonsense designed to make it look like they’re using other peoples money to do charitable work. Like I keep saying, there is a thread for this. It doesn’t belong here.

Forget the letter for the moment and look on Archewells tax return. It says on page 1 that the form is not for private foundations. And on page 14 it asks to select why it's a public charity.

Everything in Archewells tax return, published on Archewells site, backs up what is contained in the letter. I don't know if it's fake or not but the information it contains is exactly the same as on the 990 tax return.

Why does any of this mean I'm posting in bad faith? I've literally posted copies of the relevant pages of the tax return and put up a link of where you can find the actual return on Archewells site. How am I being deceptive?

skullbabe · 03/05/2023 09:59

Archewell is a tax-exempt private foundation that is structured as a charitable trust. But you’re right - it doesn’t really matter in the greater scheme of things.

How can you say it's a private foundation when on page 1 of the 990 form it says that the form is not to be used for private foundations. And on page 14 it asks why it's public charity status?

I'm really struggling to understand why people are so tied to it being a private foundation when its 990 form clearly states that it's a public charity.

The information in the letter is publicly available. Why is the letter addressed to Archewell Inc and not Archewell Foundation? Why is it addressed to the President not the Executive Director? Why is the address wrong (it’s missing a suite number)? Why is this letter publicly available - no other foundation application response letters from the IRS are available to review?

I've never been on Reddit in my life. That letter was on a thread last year on this site. That's where I got it from. If you don't believe it's real, and, as I've said several times, I don't know if it is or not, just look at Archewells own tax return on page 14. It clearly says it has public charity status and public support under section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).

It's not a private foundation.

H didn’t get to properly train and pursue his own choice of career… because of who his father is

Isn't that perhaps a bit of a stretch Whaeanui? I get that some jobs may not have been possible because of who his father is, but honestly can't see why he couldn't have followed his own path within reason - for example working in Africa, which I believe he said he wanted to do?

Or perhaps an ongoing career in the army - except it was said he couldn't have passed the exams needed for progression so would have been stuck with an unwelcome desk job

Whaeanui · 03/05/2023 10:39

The problem with trying to be normal is both security and status, you can’t fade into the background when you’re the king’s son ( or queens grandson…. ) . Did you read the book? Paps even appeared on a remote farm in the Australian outback, risking the people there and their privacy.

I said it once and with good reason, you say it multiple times across different threads usually when things aren’t quite going to plan. It’s boring, it’s rude, it’s usually not even your own thread and it’s not in your remit.

I’m ignoring you now as you are not the sort of poster that is worth discussing anything with because you see me as being on the ‘wrong team’ which is frankly pathetic.

Forget the letter because it doesn't really matter whether it's fake or not. Archewell's own return says it's a public charity.
I did attach on one of my previous posts a blank 990 form that is used for private foundations. They're called 990-PF. Interestingly enough, that's what Bill and Melinda Gates' foundation's return is filed under. And the form is called "Return of Private Foundation" which I think makes it nice and clear.

The Charity Commission said that promoting sustainable travel is a legitimate charitable activity, and therefore Travalyst was able to receive the funds.

The CC went on to state that the placing of funds into a private limited company meant they were now beyond their further scrutiny.

There's also never been any explanation as to how a travel company managed to accrue debtors and creditors during a global lockdown.

Something the French documentary highlighted that I wasn't aware of was the spending of 98% of the donated income from the QCT on 10 salaries while H&M were in charge along with the promotion of BetterUp on the charity's website which would apparently have added both credibility and economic value to the firm. That then begs the question of whether Harold's undisclosed salary there is commission based even if only in part.

If the royals (all of them) are to convince us of their charitable worth they really need to be doing a lot better.

You actually said this to me already, weeks ago when I rejoined the site. Very quickly you told me I wasn’t worth your time and you would ignore me. So I did the same. Only you kept trying to get my attention anyway! For weeks you’ve tagged and quoted me and I’ve ignored you. Now I’ve engaged a couple of times this week and you’re bringing out this line again. You have chased me round and created a narrative right from when I joined about me. Stop targeting me please and actually do as you originally said and ignore me.

It would be nice yes, but you don’t tell someone to ‘go to another thread’ I don’t know who they think they are, it’s becoming a regular thing and it’s annoying but I’m happy to leave it there.

Sorry, I cross posted and didn't see this before I posted. I think Gates has different charities? But his Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a private foundation as per my above post and photo of their tax return.

That's unfair.

@Whaeanui is remarkably patient and when she has started threads wanting to discuss a particular subject (the RF and the media) it's just endless derailments with nothing to do with the subject in hand. She kept that thread going against all odds by reminding people what the subject was!

It's not about being on 'the wrong team'.. I'm always prepared to listen to anyone who isn't keen on M&H, and I have to say... when you get the odd middle of the road poster come on a thread, they are the nearest I will ever get to seeing a point of view different to mine. Because they are rational, they aren't driven by loathing at all costs, and they make valid points, that make me question what I believe.
The rest of the time it is anti M&H posters just point scoring, PAs, finding anything and nothing to criticise the couple about, or just posting new ways of insulting them.

The problem with trying to be normal is both security and status, you can’t fade into the background when you’re the king’s son ( or queens grandson…. )

True enough up to a point, but it didn't seem to hamper the late Queen's daughter in her extensive charity work abroad - though TBF her lower key approach may also have helped, as may her avoidance of painting herself as a victim in all things

I've an open mind on the existence of paps in Australia, but as with the claims of them harrassing H&M over here, is there any evidence for this?
Only it's hard to forget their use of images of other people's crowds of photogs, the pointing from the car at apparently nothing and so on, and I just wonder if this could be another "curated memory"?

Nightlystroll · 03/05/2023 11:01

@skullbabe . Unlike the Gates Foundation, the Barak Obama Foundation is a public charity.

StormzyinaTCup · 03/05/2023 11:01

@Roussette I have posted something that I thought was interesting on here late last night and it’s been jumped on this morning by a poster who had no intention of discussing it at all and then the same happened when someone else wanted to discuss something, provided a factual document and that was roundly jumped on and was then told to ‘go to another thread’.

I have absolutely no interest in point scoring, team this that or the other but I did think that what I posted might be of interest but obviously not.
