The PR Whodunnit?

So what is this all about then?
Who did it and why?
And whoever's PR team is responsible needs tearing off a strip, it's going to backfire.
I know there was a thread about this earlier today but it was deleted due to questions over how genuine the OP was. As this story is everywhere at the moment I thought I would have a try myself and see how we go. Just a couple of preemptive points:

  1. My MN credentials are rock solid so don't anyone even go there😁
  2. Lets also keep some perspective, at the end of the day we are talking about a bunch of privileged and entitled millionaires who likely wouldn't even pee on us if we were on fire and that goes for both 'sides'.

Meghan wrote to King Charles expressing concern about unconscious bias in the Royal Family - report

The letter was reportedly sent after the duchess said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that a senior royal had speculated about how dark her unborn son's skin would be.

And Andrew P-B got to go to the last coronation! The king is his son’s godfather so one assumes they got on in the old days as well as now.

Yes, it's all very cosy. A bit crowded, even.

It’s all bloody bonkers. According to Tina Browns book he was walking around the wedding like the mother of the bride and spent the evening watching repeats of the Grand National with the Queen. Zara loves him. He is practically a royal. I think he and Camilla had a good thing going with their open marriage…heck of it works…before the humiliation of it becoming public. Works for Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack.

So you think a couple and particularly a wife who were welcomed into a family, walked down the aisle by Charles, given everything she wanted, (it's proven there was a 30 page dossier of help and advice), then because they can't have their own way being half in and half out (glamour, but none of the grind) went on to lie on worldwide TV, distort facts, publish a book full of vindictiveness towards his family, made millions of dollars on the back of all shit, are not disgusting. Many people would disagree with you.

Sorry Dan Wootton,
Repeating propaganda won’t make it fact. The Sussexes wanted the RF to fight racist tones of reporting on Meghan and prosecute when there clear falsities being reported. The half in thing came years later after the two of them were drained and saw that the RF was willing to sacrifice Harry and Meghan in favour of William and Kate. This article on actual newspaper shows this to be true. All the posters that paint william as some of doting hero can see that at the end of the day its about william getting all the benefits whilst throwing harry under the bus. https://bylinetimes.com/2023/04/25/queen-had-secret-agreement-with-murdoch-papers-to-spare-harry-hacking-trial-ordeal-court-hears/

Their relationship, and that of Andrew and Fergie, reminds me of a sentence from one of my favourite Anne Tyler novels.

"He came to see that even their divorce was another stage in their marriage."

Harry should have known, and explained to Meghan, that the Family just wait for bad Press to go away.

Drained!! What had they done that drained them? 6 weeks, was it, in Canada?
And had no one explained to Meghan that they would always come after William & Kate, however much either pair were loved or hated.

I’m interested in the Coronation insomuch as I’ll definitely watch it. I love the way we do pageantry and I think the Household Division are brilliant at what they do in terms of the ceremonial stuff and it’ll be lovely to see all that without a death backing it up.

oh and clothes. I’m very shallow in what I want from this. Day off, gold coach, bling and for once we get this with no poring over strained grief stricken family.

Amen!

Roussette · 26/04/2023 07:07

And what if it doesnt? And it just gets more and worse? And racist undertones added.

Harry was never going to put up with that, let alone Meghan. And nor should they.

You will be delighted to hear then that last night Harry and Meghan went to a Lakers game and that Meghan's hair looked as it always does, with bounce and volume.

And she looks as she always looks, and she and Harry look as besotted as ever. They seemed to be having a good time with each other.

The video is trending on Twitter, you can't miss it.

Umm good for them? I'm glad they were having a good time together. They should as they're a married couple. Doesn't change the fact that harry is a hypocrite man child who doesn't ever take responsibility for anything. In that regard, I feel sorry for Meghan having to deal with him. I would feel sorry for anyone who had to deal with him. Also, I made a comment how I didn't like how her hair looked in one video of her and that she didn't look like herself there because imo she didn't. Even her eye colour was different in the video.

skullbabe · 26/04/2023 07:21

I’m sure objectively this is something everyone understands but - I suspect I’m looking at this differently to you - knowing something and living it are 2 different things. It’s apparent in how she didn’t know that ceremonial aspects of the role still happen behind closed doors and are not an act put on for the public. Being the sacrificial lamb at the altar of the media gods time and time again to protect the firm gets wearing eventually (and she had a small taste of it compared to Harry) and they were right to leave.

"Harry should have known, and explained to Meghan, that the Family just wait for bad Press to go away"

No.
The 'royals' do not wait for bad press to go away - maybe the queen did 50 years ago
Since Charles has been unofficial regent they have been offering up another family member and let them get attacked to deflect from the behaviour of others
KP briefs against BP and vice versa

It will all come out sooner or later. My bet is on sooner

Roussette · 26/04/2023 07:35

I'm afraid the 'never complain, never explain' mantra is outdated and finished with the Queen a long time ago.

It doesn't work. They go to the media when it suits them. And they complain when it suits them. And they address media stories when it suits them. And no doubt, use injunctions when it suits them. And get news stories removed or edited within hours of publication (yes, that has happened, I won't quote specifics because I will be accused of bashing current members of the RF)

mixedrecycling · 26/04/2023 07:54

knowing something and living it are 2 different things.

I agree. A bit of time spent settling in, rather than 'hitting the ground running' would have been better all around.

You can try too hard by going OTT to create an impression of having a brilliant time. That is exactly what it looks like to me, bad acting.

Sudeko · 26/04/2023 08:33

Disorders exist where adults ostensibly put on learned/carefully contrived displays of friendship and intimacy because they are unable to experience genuine friendship or intimacy in a functionally healthy and meaningful way.

For middle aged adults, this could translate as emulating the mannerisms of characters in the opening sequence of a comedy series like Friends or a Julia Roberts film.

Social media is usually a successful environment for these people because it is geared towards promoting bloggers who can impress and seem likeable for only short bursts of time at a superficial level. The bloggers themselves find it rewarding because it provides them with a chance to cultivate popularity in increments over a length of time which may help to disguise their disorder.

The RF can’t prosecute anyone (only the CPS can in the name of the crown) plus defamation is a civil action not criminal. Plus the Sussexes were often asking them to publish statements to “correct” articles which were factually true.

poppysockies · 26/04/2023 10:24

Do we know which (if any) of the stories published about them were false?

In some cases it’s impossible to know unless it’s a statement of verifiable fact. In some cases the Sussexes have asked BP to “correct disinformation” where what was printed was materially and objectively true, but that they felt omitted context (sometimes the relevance of the context they wanted including was… debatable)

tigger2022 · 26/04/2023 10:41

Sorry I pressed send too soon! The issue was that often the “context” they wanted BP to comment on was often irrelevant or trivial, or often they wanted BP to deny the story-without-their-context wholesale which would have made BP look like liars

MrsMaxDeWinter · 26/04/2023 12:12

And I responded that you should be relieved to see her hair is back to how it always has been, as seen in the more recent video. If you look closely, you will also see that she has not in fact, changed her eye colour. Hope that gives you a measure of comfort in these uncertain times.

Most likely lighting because of her hair looking lighter which it does in direct sunlight. Regardless- she looked back to how we normally see her at the game.
