No surprise he's coming on his own to the coronation.

Charles, Anne, Andrew all divorced. Edward was the only one who did not.
I hope Eugenie and Beatrice are happy, but it is far too soon to know if their marriages will last a long time.
Lots of rumours about William and Kate
Peter divorced
Zara seems okay

There is nothing wrong with getting divorced, but it is a lot of divorces. Half of the marriages have led to divorce. A far higher rate of divorce than the general population.

They are from a class with very high divorce rates. No one needs to stay married at all.

Of the Queen and Princess Margaret’s six children. 4 first marriages ended in divorce.

GingerbreadBaking · 12/04/2023 19:00

I doubt the Democrats like the timing, taking the shine away from Biden and a peace agreement.

Bluekerfuffle · 12/04/2023 19:01

AskMeMore · 12/04/2023 18:42

On the contrary. Unlike most of his family he looks like he has a very happy marriage.

Does it? I don’t think I’ve seen him smile for years, he’s scowling and looking miserable in almost every picture since he met Meghan. What a marked difference from all the pictures before.

AskMeMore · 12/04/2023 19:01

@Nono22972 The average divorce happens after 10-12 years together. Many of the younger ones have not been married that long.

Frankola · 12/04/2023 19:03

No doubt we'll see press articles soon from "leaks", aka Omid Scobie that Meghan had decided not to attend because she has been so victimised and bullied by the royals...🙄

It's a real shame the children aren't being allowed to forge any kind of relationship with their fathers family.

AskMeMore · 12/04/2023 19:03

Why would Harry come with the children when they are not invited to any part of the Coronation weekend? What would be the point?

fragolino · 12/04/2023 19:05

@nonheme.. Because non of us know what the future holds.

She shoud have taken her place? ¶

I understand that many people get hooked on the current royals and the trench fighting going on but the actual lineage and weight of history around our royals is immense. For that reason whilst she can she should have gone?

@Frankola There are planes if Charles wants to visit them? He will be at all the coronation events all weekend anyway, which the children are not invited to - not one of them. So even if they came he would not see them.

fragolino · 12/04/2023 19:06

@AskMeMore

To take their place in history even if it meant fly in and straight out.

SerafinasGoose · 12/04/2023 19:08

fragolino · 12/04/2023 18:58

She should have gone this is far greater than making statement to Charles.
He won't be around for long she should have take her place in history.

She doesn't want it. She made that eminently clear by leaving, and clearly has no intention of ever returning.

I don't blame her one iota.

Exhibity · 12/04/2023 19:08

What was the point that started all this ? Everyone (public and press) seemed so excited when they got married. What caused the turn ?

BlackFriday · 12/04/2023 19:08

This is the best outcome, all round.
Whilst I can't see that a 4 year old's birthday is even a consideration on such a momentous day (whether or not you're a Royalist/Republican), it does provide Meghan with a reason to back up their decision for her not to attend.
I have no time for Harry these days at all (although I do actually quite like what I've seen of Meghan) but I still think he should be in attendance on that day.
I do hope the media don't over-focus on him though. He is NOT the main attraction here.

fragolino · 12/04/2023 19:08

@Frankola.. Agree.

Charles has camilla gc doing stuff and yet not his own.
. It's awful and will stain him in perpetuity.

He should be rolling out the red carpet for them.

fragolino · 12/04/2023 19:09

@blackfriday

😂 Of course he will be!!

I can see him now striding like Henry viii centrally behind his grandma coffin!

Viviennemary · 12/04/2023 19:10

BbC just showed a clip of Harry saying there is a lot to be discussed. Not referring to the coronation but to his grievances aired in his book and interviews. Its all rumbling on and on nicely.

But the big thing like Charles's ex mistress now being crowned Queen all fine. Bit ironic. And Camilla's grandchildren playing a key part and Harry's children not even invited bit rich really. I sympathise with Harry if he isnt pleased about that.

A particularly nasty, cloak-and-dagger PR campaign, of the like which has been seen emanating from Charles's branch of that family since the days of his first marriage.

You have to hand it to their advisors. They are very effective. Better people than Harry have tried to take them on before, and failed.

Livingtothefull · 12/04/2023 19:11

'He wanted to step back (Harry) and Meghan but didn’t return their titles and demanded them for their children / that seems the opposite - either you are in or out.'

If you accept the monarchical system then it is not a question of 'returning' or 'demanding' titles - they are a birthright which is not affected by whether they choose to be working Royals or not, or whether or not they are deemed worthy of the titles. Andrew did not lose them either though his military and honorary ones are stripped.

Anyone who supports monarchy needs to support the rules that go with it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2023 19:12

... the lateness of the decision suggests they were bartering up until the last minute

I could easily believe there's been some to and fro - Harry's public comments about an apology point to it - but let's not forget we simply don't know how long the palace have known about the acceptance by him alone

Kelljo83 · 12/04/2023 19:13

She's damed if she does, and damned if she doesn't! It's Archie's birthday so as his mum she'll naturally want to spend it with him. What mother wouldn't! I'm sick of people villifying her.
They have 2 kids that'll be bored stiff all day. Let Harry be there for his Dad and then he can be with his kids.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 12/04/2023 19:14

He should be rolling out the red carpet for them.

Fuck no. They are adults who have made a decision. Nobody has covered themselves in glory M&H included with their interviews etc. It's time for it all just to die down now and for private visits and reconcilliation. MM doesn't want to come and isn't coming. Their DC are too young for roles. I doubt Louis will do anything formal as he is only 5. Archie and Lili are 4 and 2. Would you want your own DC at those ages 'performing' on the world stage? Especially when the press are not your biggest fan? Look at the flack Louis got for 'misbehaving' over the jubilee weekend, and the press quite like him and his parents.

BlackFriday · 12/04/2023 19:15

It's not as simple as Archie and Lili not being invited. They're way too young.
Louis, God love him, was probably too young for some of the Jubilee celebration events, but at least he wasn't televised in any church services.

TheWernethWife · 12/04/2023 19:16

I feel for Harry. He had to walk behind his mother's coffin at a young age, how coud he not be traumatised. King Charles was probably over at Camilla's that very night.
