No surprise he's coming on his own to the coronation.

If I was Meghan I wouldn't come either, all the bitching and hate towards her would break an ordinary person yet she's expected to put up with it. She and her children will be better off away from the dreadful media and online sniping plus fabrications and I hope she enjoys her son's birthday.

I agree. In her shoes I would be having panic attacks at the mere thought of coming back to this country and attending this shitshow. It's not just having to deal with the in laws, but the media and the entire weight of the inevitable nasty opinions online. I hope she is OK actually.

wordler · 12/04/2023 18:06

If I was doing it I'd have done a best of British and the Commonwealth music thing - I like the idea of the Gareth Malone choir but also included Welsh, Scottish and Irish folk music, popular and traditional music from the Commonwealth countries, etc.

Or gone fully classical using best of British composers with a fabulous drone and light show - a kind of classical Jean-Michel Jarre - anyone remember him!

I think televised pop concerts peaked at LiveAid.

AskMeMore · 12/04/2023 18:07

Meghan was invited but all the briefings were that they really wanted Harry, not her. The kids were not invited for anything.

You were there for the briefings?

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/04/2023 18:08

@Roussette @Samcro @PreparationPreparationPrep

Have you seen Twitter? Dan Wootton doing a sad face about Meghan "bottling it", and what a shame she is depriving Charles of the opportunity to see his kids ...

Twitter mercilessly remind him that he wrote a few weeks ago that neither of them should come ...

It's an overused word, I know, but the derangement is real!

!!!

Talk about a tail spin of frustration.

Exhibity · 12/04/2023 17:55

She was invited though, wasn't she ?

We don't actually know that for sure (I wouldn't believe anything the tabloids say). But even assuming she was invited, there are excellent reasons for her not wanting to go. Regardless of the background, it doesn't look good for the RF that she will not be there.

AskMeMore · 12/04/2023 18:09

@wordler You do know certain reporters publish what different Royals are saying to them? They leak like a sieve.

Yes, I remember Harry being quoted as saying "two......max".
Not wanting to contribute to overpopulation, being that he's very concerned about that issue, plus climate change, etc, etc.............whilst travelling in private jets.......😉

Not as much as your king and heir. He flew scheduled to the court case for instance

GingerbreadBaking · 12/04/2023 18:10

To be fair I would want my children not an inlaw who didn't like me and took the piss out of the families culture to try and publicly humiliate them internationally.

I wouldn't organise to be crowned on the same day as a birthday of my grandchildren.

I wish the litter one a happy birthday, I feel sorry for them with the parents and Grandfather's they have.

LuckyPeonies · 12/04/2023 18:10

I don’t blame her at all. Wise decision to stay far away from royal disdain and the media viper pit.

The comments under the Telegraph article I posted are a shocker. You actually have to have a paid subscription to comment rather than just jump the paywall so we can assume a lot are middle England Tories in bent. At least 80% are hostile along her attack lines I have included a few below. They are losing their core constituency and not getting a new one it would seem.

  • Just a reminder of Charles's Great Reset speech, in which he advocates carbon pricing i.e. something that will raise inflation and cause food shortages, so poor people have to reduce their lifestyle, while the rich carry on as before. There is no mention of democracy in any of this. Just Charles and his mates deciding what is best for "the planet".

  • Defender of the Faith was a title bestowed on Henry VIII when he wrote a pamphlet defending said faith. But here's the rub: it was bestowed by the Pope because the faith being defended was the Catholic faith. In reality the RF shouldn't have hung onto it so the king's modification is neither here nor there

  • Charles, the useful idiot messenger for the establishment. A man of his alleged intellect would realise that net zero is extremely punitive and anti-human, he does not represent us, he’s against us. edite
  • When the Country needs stability and continuity in a changing World...we get wet, weak and woke, Charlie Boy
  • Charles is wise enough to grasp that this country whether we like it or not, is now almost faithless. Relying on those of a Christian faith will bring about his downfall quicker than any other action. To imagine that only Christian’s value the monarchy is simply untrue. In a workforce of 8 different faiths, it’s us so called Christians who don’t keep the faith, yet still we say C of E when asked. Inclusivity does not mean Woke, rather it means an opportunity for all to participate and enjoy, and it’s still Christian led as befits the Defender of Faiths.

  • Charles is a twit, witness Camilla, now Queen Camilla and bravo once again to you Allison for saying it like it is.
  • Me too Allison. I was a devout Elizabethan (I even met her once) and I'm moving rapidly to full throated Republican. This lot don't impress. And Charles has always been a twit in my view.
  • Very surprising that Charles hasn't nominated a 'Brand Ambassador for the Coronation'.
  • Perhaps the person doing that job for Nike...and Bud Light?
  • My disinterest is absolute. He's allowed his youngest son to insult the whole nation, demean the monarchy and then rubbed salt into the wound by inviting him to attend. I have hopes for William and Catherine, but hope we won't have to wait too long. He's a weak man, easily swayed.
  • You don’t mean disinterest, you mean uninterest. Your dictionary will confirm.
  • The last sentence sums it up, he is indeed a fool, always has been.
  • I hate to say that dumbing down for the lowest, smallest minority is grating. The coronation should follow time honoured protocols and be a solemn and dignified process reflecting the great role that our Monarch plays in our historic constitution. Sadly no longer if media reports are to be believed. This once Great country has lost sight of the overwhelming majority who are now frightened to say anything that may offend a little pressure group.
  • Impossible for anyone to fill the shoes of our beloved, one true Queen.
  • Especially, this Woke man Charles, who is in danger of destroying our wounded Monarchy.
  • Totally agree with Alison. Charles is demeaning the monarchy by his woke actions
  • Being British is having our country's foundations built on a solid Christian foundation.
  • I have never before questioned the cost of the monarchy during the reign of our late Queen. Though now I see worsening inflation, a collapsing health service, rising poverty, illegal immigration, and the ever rising costs to house them. Then I think about colossal cost of the monarchy.
  • Then there were those Fortnum and Mason carrier bags and suitcases filled with millions of euros in cash that Charles received after his meeting with a Qatari politician. Allegedly paid into one of his charities.
  • You just couldn't imagine our late great Queen demeaning this country and its traditions in such a way.
  • Well the King just lost me. So much ‘inclusion’ is too much to take.
  • Very much agree with the sentiment. But rather like the impossible choice of worthless politicians clamouring for our vote at the next general election, what would happen if we became a republic? Another gang of useless (or worse) ex-politicians and their cronies trying to establish a presidency. Which is worse, an incompetent king with no actual power or a useless president (c.f. Macron or Trudeau) with, they feel, a divine right to rule.
  • Well, personally I’d go for the King option. Charles is a bit of a disaster but that’s nothing new. Most people, I suspect, are looking straight past him to William
  • Bit like having to eat your greens before you can get to the cake.
  • I think we’ve just got to grit our teeth, hope he doesn’t do too much damage and ‘pray’ that the next one is more like his grandmother. The thought of a President is hideous - I am unable to think of a current worthwhile politician.
  • Like Ms Pearson and many others, I am a committed Monarchist, seeing that most republics are failures of political representation and showcases for magical thinking, puerile moralistic grandstanding and inept nation building. I would still probably remain a Monarchist, even if the Sovereign were an emphysemic hamster.
  • However, Charles is uncomfortably close to the Net Zero Green Blob of Davos/UN Eugenicists and eager destroyers of freedom and prosperity, not to mention the other baggage from the apparently terminal touchy-feely nature at his core. I feel sure that he sees himself as at the vanguard of this group of Khmer Verts, whose nearly 8-billion-long list of humans to be killed off (so that newts may thrive) has his name near the bottom of it. Dare I say it in regards to Charles, but Evil is paved with good intentions and buonismo.

  • The one (tee) with the sequinned Union Jack in a heart shape was pretty, but right now I don't feel I belong, or proud enough of my own countr
  • 8 min ago
  • I understand, I feel that too like - being a stranger in a strange land. I don’t recognise it, all the familiar values and principles of living in a society have been upended ..we don’t look after our own, we allow all comers access to services we’ve contributed too via taxation all our working lives and yet when we can’t access them and complain or vote in a way that’s anathema to our political ‘elites’ we’re written off as racist, populist plebs. I’m an adult human female and my sex is being erased by a shouty violent bunch of men and anyone challenging that is ‘cancelled’. I really don’t feel part of society anymore - but it’s not one I want to be part of anyway.
  • Because Charles, on attaining the crown, has not become regal? He still looks like a twit.
  • Seriously, the juat look like grandma and grandpa playing dress-ups
  • 26 min ago
  • Can't see a 'Choir of Trees and Shrubs'.
  • Massive omission by Charles, not enough diversity, and also denying the Nation the opportunity to hear the sounds of his talking/singing plants.
  • Just wait and see. In my entire lifetime the United Kingdom and it’s Monarch have never let us down or short changed us. Dust off the Jubilee Union Flag bunting and get to it. We have a golden coach, several gorgeously decorated crowns, buildings, armed forces in sparkling regalia and the Red Arrows to enjoy. We also have a new King who needs us just as much as we need him
  • The whole organisation is a waste of time. They’re only useful as a tourist attraction.
  • Problem is we have had for as long as many can recall a very wise sensible and shrewd monarch on the throne , now we have someone who is none of those things and it’s going to end badly i’m afraid
  • 15 min ago
  • Rather disagree, I think he has done extremely well and risen to the occasion and avoided entanglement with his very limited son Harry. He was brilliant in Germany his speech excellent and he is respected by many over sees. We should have no complexes about King Charles and his capabilities. Give him a chance !
  • We have to bear in mind that Charles/William are very different to all the Kings and Queens preceding them, who ruled over a demographically/culturally/spiritually unchanged England for a thousand years.
  • Within 50 years the English will no longer exist as a meaningful people, so if Charles/William wish to remain on top of the pile they have to pay lip-service to the new demographic order - at the very least.

I've just pulled up Adele, Elton John, The Spice Girls, Kylie, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, and David Dimbleby.

You’ve pulled up a list of people who aren’t appearing. Can you also show us that they were in fact invited?

Kylie, who was it seems invited, gave a statement saying she wouldn’t be in the UK at the time. No one else has said they were invited. Ed Sheeran in fact put out a statement saying he’s never actually been approached to appear at the concert. The Spice Girls last performed together 11 years ago. I also didn’t realise that David Dimbleby was a singer…🤣

No one said he was. The post where I first referenced this specifically states musical artists and TV presenters. But whatever floats your boat. This is clearly what passes for meaningful discussion on this area of Mumsnet.

In any event, it hardly looks as though the usual professional entertainers who contribute to such events are queuing out of the door. They must be Windsored out after the constant, repetitive celebrations of hereditary privilege seen over the last couple of years.

You know that no one from the Palace told a reporter that the King wanted Harry but not Meghan. It's ridiculous speculation to sell papers.

I don't feel sorry for Thomas. Not in the slightest. Surprised you do

purpledalmation · 12/04/2023 18:14

Well at least we only have to put up with the ginger whinger and not Harry's wife. I'm sure she didn't want to come because of a repeat of the booing. Not good for the brand.

Couchpotato3 · 12/04/2023 18:15

Newsflash: Couple invited to big family event, not suitable for children. Event conflicts with child's birthday. Husband attends event as it's his family. Wife stays home to organise child's birthday. It's hardly controversial, is it? I think they are a pair of idiots, but getting arsey over their attendance at the Coronation is daft. The kids are too young to remember it and would be a nightmare to manage, and why should they have to be dragged half way around the world for something they can't even attend, and on one of their birthdays. Complete non-news, non-story, non-event. Find something else to froth about, people!

Whatthediddlyfeck · 12/04/2023 18:15

WizardinTraining · 12/04/2023 15:59

It's sad how it's worked out but I think this is the best option. I'm not overly fussed about the coronation but if she came it would massively overshadow the day and rightly or wrongly she/they would probably get booed which creates a very bad impression to the rest of the world.

Hopefully Harry is coming because it's the right thing to do not just to keep him relevant with the fawning Americans/Netflix/talk shows etc.

I agree with every word you’ve said-it’s the least bad option

Roussette · 12/04/2023 18:15

I'm sorry, I got my post to you wrong. Apologies

Viviennemary · 12/04/2023 18:15

BbC news just said Harry will have a ringside seat. And it's hoped his presence will not be too much of a distraction. Ouch. Nicholas Witchell.

Zanatdy · 12/04/2023 18:15

It’s Archie’s bday so no doubt part of the reason, a very small part. Not sure why a woman always gets the blame when Harry has wanted to break free from it all for years.

Hopefully it's the last time he sets foot in the country for a few years. Just enjoy your life overseas and leave us in peace.

Is he personally bothering you and causing problems in your life?

AskMeMore · 12/04/2023 18:17

@Couchpotato3 It is simply not true that the whole Coronation weekend is unsuitable for children.
The grandchildren were not invited as Charles has zero interest in them.
Camilla is making sure her family are well represented though.
