What I don't get is that I would respect them if they made it clear that they were done with royalty both in terms of immediate family and with the concept of royalty. They are not 'working' royals but they have made it clear that they want to continue to be regarded as 'Royal'. It's that bit that I find hard to understand

They want the prestige but don't want the rest of it - it's very obvious to most people at least in UK I've encountered - and I agree with the OP it gives them authenticity problems.

However I don't agree that the original article actually points any of this out - I think it uses a click bait title along those lines but actual article seem to me just to be very sneering about Meghan's family origins and about her daring to have ambitions - it's more jumping on a bandwagon to be snobby than anything new or inciteful about Meghan,

I'm not a big fan of RF - their ancestors are the people who subjugated. exploited and killed many of my families Irish, Welsh and English ancestors but until the republican movement picks up considerable steam it's what we have and the half in half out - all the prestige and none of the downsides snipping from the sides - isn't really in my mind defeasible.

To see genuine opinions of a large number of non biased posters, look at the start of the thread when it appears in 'Active'. No one with an axe to grind, most people sitting on the fence re the monarchy, and honest opinons about the RF particularly harry and meghan.

once the posts have run for a long time you get a small handful of very pro H&M posters who take over the thread and are hostile to anything negative about the couple.

You also get a few (I'm one of them) very sceptical about H&M and prepared to speak out about the hypocrisy. I'm not a royalist or anti royal but I'm very much anti them, simply because I believe they are two appalling human beings.

I really don’t have particularly strong views about M&H. That’s the most ridiculous bit!
I took particular offence at posters rewording my posts in order to fit their own narrative. Then hiding behind veiled insults. Then implying I’m a troll. Then reporting my posts where I acknowledge their implication of me being a troll as being troll hunting 😂😂 it’s just the most disingenuous bollocks I’ve ever seen!

@jeffgoldblum I hope you don’t mind me tagging but I saw you mention Camilla accused of using a white supremacist gesture? Was it the ‘a ok’ thing you do with your hands? Funnily enough a women’s rights campaigner was just accused of using it by an actual news media in NZ, as she was zipping her top up in s video, they blurred the video but made the accusation, when I complained they removed it but the damage was done. Do you know where this ridiculous claim comes from? Two years ago on 4chan. Seriously, it’s a hoax! They did it to turn an ordinary common hand gesture into a sign of white supremacy so ordinary people would get caught up and at the time people, I think sports stars from memory, were cancelled over it. It’s beyond ridiculous and was always a hoax.

We discussed this on the Trump threads when he was in POTUS. The worst example of it was when Kavanaugh was having his Hearing to become a Supreme Court Judge and there in the audience a couple of Repubs behind him on camera deliberately were making this signal to 'own the libs', all denied of course. I just think nothing, but nothing, happens accidentally in politics!
Call me a cynic....

Sounds delicious I will try it. The toastie here is usually used for cheese and bbq sauce Confusedso I very rarely go near it. But mushrooms and maybe some spinach ..that's lunch sorted.!

I talked about Trump and politics. If you want to glean from that I am accusing Camilla of something, that is your problem. I am not.

I was chatting to @Whaeanui about it and her interesting post on the origins of it.

I didn't even know about it till I saw @jeffgoldblum 's post and I just wanted to clarify that it wasn't me who posted that.
