Do you think the other fabulously wealthy Dukedoms such as Westminster should have their estates and assets sequestered for public ownership?

Of course. They would come for me and my wee farm next. What about the foreign owned massive estates? Let's give every citizen a parcel of land and go back to strip farming.

We don't fund them. And yes I know abut the Duke of Westminster's dodgy tax position. And the sooner the laws on Trusts are tightened up, the better.

You always take it to extremes Derxa! Yesterday it was hair shirts and guillotines and today it's your farm being taken into public ownership!

So are you saying that anyone who is “funded” by the taxpayer in any way has no right to personal income or assets from other sources?

Evidently it was and is okay for every tax funded royal apart from Harry and Meghan 😉

Where have I said that?

Continually on these threads, posters try and say things that I have not said. It happened yesterday and the day before.
It's weird.

It's almost like connecting the dots in a dot to dot picture but doing it wrong. 😂

Hippyhippybake · 29/08/2023 11:19

Btw, I wouldn’t describe myself as a royalist necessarily. If someone can point me towards a republic which functions better than the UK, particularly in terms of civil liberties, tolerance and an independent judiciary I could well be persuaded.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/08/2023 11:20

Surely of all people Andrew proves that the RF don’t throw each other under media buses whenever it’s convenient?

I believe it's a bit more nuanced than that; the record tends to suggest it's mostly outsiders/married ins who get the very worst of it, while the Windsors circle the wagons and pull together when it concerns one of the blood family

Doubly so if that blood family member could do a lot of damage by opening their mouths ...

Hippyhippybake · 29/08/2023 11:24

@Roussette apologies if I misunderstood but I thought your point was that taxpayers wouldn’t have a right to all the other similar Dukedom’s assets or income as the family don’t get something like the “sovereign grant” to fund their official duties.

Have you seen the latest lamentation from GB News, about how the Royal Family has sunk too low because Doria Ragland (who is not and has never been a member of the Royal Family, whether working or just lazing about) was pictured with the Kardashians?

Followed immediately in the same segment by Dan Wootton and his guests discussing future King and Queen William and Kate driving Andrew to church, and Dan intoning that Andrew has been the victim of a smear campaign and his nodding heads agreeing.

Doria Ragland minding her business in America, attending a charity event also attended by the Kardashians, is lowering the Royal Family.

But Kate and William driving Andrew, who knowingly hobnobbed with a convicted sex offender even after he had been indicted (never mind whether the accusations against Andrew himself are true), to church is A-Okay because he is the victim of a smear campaign.

These people, and their proxies, are comical fools!

Edited

I don't even know what to say anymore about the disgusting vile people on that revolting 'news' outlet. They're an embarrassment. Of course Wootton would say that, look at his own mess, low life that he is. Creeps championing creeps. Meanwhile beautiful Doria is dragged into their conversation because of course they'll attack the black lady at a charity event while the white royal can be friends with convicted child abusers and the poor thing is a victim. New low, definitely a new low.

Do you really think that you can avoid being questioned about a criminal offence simply by hiding in a castle ?

Actually yes. He cannot be arrested on the monarchs property or in the presence of the monarch without the Monarchs express permission.

Hippyhippybake · 29/08/2023 12:00

Right and he’s been in the castle for the last 3 years has he? It was a civil case, not criminal.

Hippyhippybake · 29/08/2023 12:01

Actually I’m pretty sure he was hiding in his own house, not the castle!

nobody is going to launch a criminal investigation into the then queens son, or the now Kings brother, all she would need to do was make sure he didn't leave Windsor grounds- which by the way, he to this day, rarely leaves. I thought they would have had him ride with Charles to protect him actually, he is safe with him and on the grounds he owns.

He doesn't have to be 'in a castle'. Just on any of the monarchs property, so he's safe in Windsor.

Yes, that was the whole thing. He was hanging on to Mummy's skirts for weeks.

Hippyhippybake · 29/08/2023 12:09

Princess Anne has been convicted of a criminal offence. There have never been any criminal charges against Prince Andrew.

Angrycat2768 · 29/08/2023 12:22

It's not about imposing communism and strip farming. It's saying that a family who is basically handed everything on a plate so that one member can act as a ceremonial Head of State and represent the UK should be expected not to abuse that privilege by engaging in shady behaviour with sex offenders and dodgy oligarchs or wasting money on ridiculous numbers of staff or accumulating houses that they renovate by ripping out perfectly good tennis courts and kitchens while telling us how to save the environment. They have their every whim catered for, have no real problems, plenty of privacy yet they behave badly and then expect to just not be pulled up on it! Because they have such huge amounts of unearned privilege just because they were born, they need to be scrutinised and held account for their actions. We cannot get rid of them if they behave awfully. If they want people to accept that a 10 year old is automatically going to be their children's Head of State whether they like it or not and that they should pay for his brother and sister to be 'working' for the Royal Family for life then they need to show us that they are worthy of that extreme level of privilege.

The location of Andrew has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not a criminal investigation can take place. His location only becomes relevant when you want to arrest him, which is generally at the end of the investigation.

It only impacts a civil case because you are supposed to serve papers on the defendant personally. If they are evading service (which is not at all unusual by the way) the claimant can get the court to order substituted service however if need be, so it’s only a delaying tactic.

The Russian people can't get rid of Putin but at least Charles doesn't order that his enemies are pushed out of windows

Hippy for the last time I’ll try to spell it out:

This family is tax payer funded ( see vera99 s post) - not your neighbours . Different rules

Do lay out the rules for all publicly funded workers? Civil Servants, teachers, judges etc?

If we became a Republic, I am not sure they would own the Duchies. They insist they are private estates. Course they do.

The RF hide their wealth quite successfully. They insist the duchy income is private.
Yep. They would.

I think the outcome would probably depend on whether the monarchy was abolished by a revolution or by a democratic vote.

If we took all the land away from them, what would we do about even richer non-royal dukes - Westminster, for instance?

The government of the day would have SO much money! We the People might even see a bit of it, tho' most would, no doubt, be syphoned off to the cronies of those in power.
