Sussex's snubbed on both sides of the Atlantic

Harry and Meghan will be invited to the coronation - by necessity - but this toxic pair will be kept at a careful arm's length by all and sundry, excluded from the balcony or carriage procession, and probably positioned somewhere suitably inconspicuous. Most of the family will be wary of them, most will wherever possible avoid them and the crowds will likely boo them. There will be no lucrative photo ops with William or Kate. The Wales children will be in the limelight, but Harry and Meghan's children will be excluded, due to age.

Meanwhile, over in the States, where they no doubt expected to be feted when they planned their dramatic departure from the UK, opinion polls reveal them to be less popular now than even Prince Andrew. South Park mocked them to general acclaim and The Cut published a contemptuous piece about the possible relaunch of the Tig last week.

They've been snubbed and excluded from every big social event, from the Met Gala to Obama's birthday party and Elton John's Oscar's bash. The only parties they have attended have been those hosted by social pariahs like Ellen de Generes.

They are coming across as increasingly desperate and embarrassing. It's hard to to see any possible comeback from here.

Doubt he will be in the front row, or his daughters. Anyway, despite his seedy past and disgrace, he’s not been bad-mouthing his family and unable to be trusted with any private conversations they may have.

Just with trafficked young women

blitheringblackberries · 22/03/2023 19:08

The Yorks seem to be pretty chummy with the Sussexes. Ideally, they'll be seated somewhere together.

tatalan · 22/03/2023 19:48

Yes yes, being an accused child rapist is less of a sin. Nothing to see here.

Quite. This is one of the daily H&M articles that are published by many papers that are full of speculation and no real substantive information.

The synopsis of this article is H&M won’t be wearing ceremonial robes. This is not news - this happened at the funeral and it of course would be the same at the coronation.

Who wore ceremonial robes to the funeral?

It's saying they won't be able to wear coronets either? That could spoil things for the Style & Beauty posters.

purpledalmation · 23/03/2023 08:07

H&M wearing ceremonial robes. Is it April 1st? 😂😂😂😂😂

Novella4 · 23/03/2023 08:11

'Ceremonial robes' = nonsense
Invented nonsense .

The Windsors award themselves their made up medals and feathers and it looks comical
What sort of idiot is impressed by this?

No doubt Andrew will be allowed a turn at the dressing up box

Catonthehearth · 23/03/2023 08:28

Do you think the same about any ceremonial dress in any part of the world or is it only invented nonsense for the RF?

Novella4 · 23/03/2023 09:18

@Catonthehearth
Define 'ceremonial'

If it is associated with the con that that is 'royalty' then 100% is is nonsense - doesn't matter where though the Windsors do take it to another level .
The further the UK is allowed to decline the more fervently the gilt is polished

Im starting to believe that some posters are using the 'pomp' ( tell me you are shallow without telling me you are shallow) to cling to some colonial past which is long gone thank god

Catonthehearth · 23/03/2023 09:29

Define 'ceremonial'

Religious - for any religion - pope's robes, archbishop of Canterbury's robes, Jewish kittel, Buddhist robes.
Native American ceremonial dress.
Irish dance or Morris dance costume.
Geisha robes.
Naval ceremonial uniform.
Brides in big white dresses.
Little girls in Brownie uniform.
Drakten in Sweden.

All ceremonial. All made up. Are you so dismissive of them all?

Apologies - I will be more specific - based on the previous occasion where Harry did not wear formal dress (in that case it was his military uniform), then it would be expected that he would not be wearing any form of ceremonial dress in the coronation.

EdithWeston · 23/03/2023 10:42

He did not wear uniform, because he was no longer entitled to (no longer held honorary ranks, and was not senior enough when he left to wear in retirement - unlike Andrew who had served for longer and had reached the required seniority, but also did not). He got special dispensation to wear it for the vigil.

The coronation will be different, as it's not just his uniform that is a possibility (and which I suspect will be ruled out for same reasons as the funeral) There are also ducal robes.

Has there actually been an announcement on whether peers will be robed?

Decisions on whether Royal dukes are robed would have to apply in the same way to Gloucester. Kent, York and Sussex - unless the first two did because they are working royals, but then neither of the latter because they're not. Otherwise, all or none

I'm pissed off there's no silk breeches. We're being shortchanged. Trousers just don't cut it for me 😂

You like your Charles a little sexier, do you?

Also now Edward as Duke of Edinburgh. He is still very much a Senior Working Royal. Personally, I'd like to see him recognised as such during the Coronation. Dukes of Kent & Gloucester (though they aren't Senior).

BadgerB · 23/03/2023 11:41

Dukes of Kent & Gloucester (though they aren't Senior).

Is that so? They are grandsons of George V. How far do you have to be moved down the line to be non-senior?
