Sussex's snubbed on both sides of the Atlantic

Harry and Meghan will be invited to the coronation - by necessity - but this toxic pair will be kept at a careful arm's length by all and sundry, excluded from the balcony or carriage procession, and probably positioned somewhere suitably inconspicuous. Most of the family will be wary of them, most will wherever possible avoid them and the crowds will likely boo them. There will be no lucrative photo ops with William or Kate. The Wales children will be in the limelight, but Harry and Meghan's children will be excluded, due to age.

Meanwhile, over in the States, where they no doubt expected to be feted when they planned their dramatic departure from the UK, opinion polls reveal them to be less popular now than even Prince Andrew. South Park mocked them to general acclaim and The Cut published a contemptuous piece about the possible relaunch of the Tig last week.

They've been snubbed and excluded from every big social event, from the Met Gala to Obama's birthday party and Elton John's Oscar's bash. The only parties they have attended have been those hosted by social pariahs like Ellen de Generes.

They are coming across as increasingly desperate and embarrassing. It's hard to to see any possible comeback from here.

Well.... anyone who calls it a bitchfest isn't paying attention. I wrote a long thought out post about why I think things are the way they are, why the RF aren't perhaps igniting everyone, and how we reap what we sow.

tatalan I think he will come on his own, slip in and slip out again. My hope is neither come but that's next best thing.

See I'd rather they both attend than just Harry, the RF don't want Meghan included IMO.

So many posters type Megan instead of Meghan. Same sort of thing

Exactly. Completely bizarre. If you are on a Royal thread and are suitably interested, surely getting the actual names right is pretty important. Unless you are deliberately being goady, claiming ignorance, etc etc.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 22/03/2023 11:55

If anyone does come I would like Harry to whisk in do what he has to do and straight back again to his family. Just Because it's his father.

My guess is he would like Meghan to be there with him.

But I really do believe Meghan can take it or
leave it. A nice day to dress up and have some
photos taken but not a big thing for her to
miss this the way some people like to imagine.

Well... I prefer Megan than all the other horrible nicknames rolled out. MeGain, MeAgain and all of that, so I will excuse Megan instead of Meghan. Just!

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 12:02

In Ireland, all the Megan’s I know are spelt that way without the h

With the h seems to be the uncommon spelling.

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 12:13

and Lilibet is unusual, so she is going to be correcting a lot of people, who aren’t mispelling on purpose

as an Irish person a lot of people struggle with spelling Irish names that they’re unfamiliar with and as this is the phonetic spelling of a mispronouncing of a name, it looks very unusual.

tatalan · 22/03/2023 12:14

Yeah, I think they'll stick to Lili.

Howsimplywonderful · 22/03/2023 12:17

But if it’s on your birth cert you will still have to use it in many circumstances .

My son has a formal name but is known by the shorter version but he’s 11 and now wants the formal version, but all the forms use his full name, doctors, appointments anything where he has to provide ID

we call him by a slightly different name at home so it’s all fun and glad

Would you believe it... our firstborn we gave a one syllable name that can't be shortened. So what happens? People elongate it! So she often now has a longer name!

It's like Prince Henry but everyone calls him Harry. I imagine it would be the same for Lili.

I love when that happens 😀

This is new, what is her name then?

I think it is the spelling, it is Lilibet, rather than Lillibet.

Yes, that's what I thought was meant too.

They announced at the time of her birth she was to be known day-to-day as Lili (much like Henry was to be known as Harry) so that's the version I would normally use

Haha, I get that, we did exactly the same for the same reason, except we ourselves gave them longer pet names.

Ha @Roussette exactly the same here😁
We gave DD a one syllable name that can't be shortened and people elongated it, including her teachers!

My DDs can now be two or even three syllables. Instead of one! Trouble is, I am guilty of it too!

wordler · 22/03/2023 15:11

My parents gave me a one-syllable name because DM hated nicknames, and a plain name because she had a very unusual glamourous name for her time and home area and was always embarrassed by the attention it brought.

I have always hated having such a boring name, and longed for something more romantic and interesting!

So I gave my DD a long 4-syllable name which can be shortened into SEVEN different options so that I'd covered all bases - can go long, medium or short, can go simple or quirky, girly or gender neutral.

She was ten when she told me she didn't like any of them and would probably change her name when she was an adult!

Cannot win.

Roussette · 22/03/2023 15:17

wordler that's hilarious!

We parents can't do right for doing wrong!

Is her name Elizabeth?

It’s not but works in a similar way so that some of the ‘versions’ can be very different to the original.

I was chuckling to myself at your post. I too have a mother with a very exotic name, even by todays standards, who in turn gave me a 3 letter bog standard 90s name which can’t be shortened and was mega popular.
I gave my daughter a name with “options” and she only ever uses her full name.

oh yes. or shorten it to 2 letters. its a tiny name.

704703hey · 22/03/2023 16:24

3 syllable name here, my mother was cross at people shortening it, so 1 syllable for next child, it got elongated 🤣

Going back to thread title, I don't think they're snubbed both sides. They left RF and moved continents, so it's no surprise their position changed.

In America they might not have access to some of the celebrities they'd like to, but generally slebs are notoriously private, and I get a bit lost with things like no invite to Vogue/Oscar parties as I don't know if it's made up.

Let's see if Andrew is seated in Iceland or Siberia then?

Bet not. He'll be alongside daughters in front row, betcha

Doubt he will be in the front row, or his daughters. Anyway, despite his seedy past and disgrace, he’s not been bad-mouthing his family and unable to be trusted with any private conversations they may have.
