Having read many articles Kate (pippa & James also) is so accomplished since she was tiny.
She is very sporty.. strong swimmer, excellent skier, hockey player, lacrosse, athletics, netball.. Plays piano very well & also was lead in schools drama production. Excelled at art.
It seems the Middleton's didn't do much in the way of equistrian sports?
Would love my dc to be as accomplished & well rounded. Can't afford Marlborough or any private for that matter!

@BadgerB what you will never understand is that Diana fans (I am not one) are well aware of her faults and love her anyway.

Well them it’s likely Kate did have private lessons surely.

I do get what you mean re doing music in a class. It depends on the instrument though. One of my kids does it in school and has developed an interest in a second instrument as a result.

Swimming they have done weekly for between thirty to forty mins a class, from age four and they were at least nine before they could swim lengths smoothly.

Not quite sure how anyone manages to learn good techinique without them though, and good technique is an important element of performance.

They do if they want to make progress, whether on an instrument or singing.
Who were you thinking of?

I really don't know what to make of this comment. Even Mozart had music lessons.

poor old Bach. He’d be sorry to hear you don’t think he could be “musical” because he had music lessons.

Same for Beethoven, Mahler, Debussy and so many many others! Poor unmusical buggers!

the entire school plays an instrument, sails and plays tennis. . . . that's not possible. There are usually 100s of other extracurricular activities.

Again I meant that riding - like tennis, ski-img, music - is expected in RF circles which is probably why a statement/rumour (whatever it was) was pout out that Kate was allergic to horses.

You seem to be making it personal because of your own children’s activities. If you run in the same circles as the RF, fair enough but I doubt you do so any more than I do myself.

EKGEMS · 15/03/2023 18:15

Catherine is allergic to horses I've heard

Mommymoments · 15/03/2023 18:18

I also forgot that Kate was an excellent rower. Wasn't she part of a crew following the break up with William.

I think it is not unusual for a sporty girl ( or indeed boy) to be very good at lots of sports . & By which I mean school team not Olympics. At my all girls' school those who were good at hockey tended to be good at tennis , lacrosse - though we did not play much of that , netball , running / high jump, long jump other athletics but this was school team standard , let alone county , England etc. .I think good music lessons gets you to a can perform a piece with practice state , which is great but not as talented as a chap I knew who if you gave him a tune he could pick it out by ear and play it . Skiing , rowing sailing etc tends to be opportunity + interest can lead to competence. Just my opinion.

Fifi0000 · 15/03/2023 18:50

I think it's sad she was obviously a high achiever and she's just become a smiling brood mare walking behind her husband. Definitely not an example for feminism.

People on MN are obsessed with academic achievement and people being 'role models. And I'm going to speak up for Harry. He's not academic but I think he's intelligent. He had enough intelligence to pursue a career he loved- the Army.
As for Kate, I think she's perfectly happy with her life choices. What a nasty snide thread.
I've got qualifications coming out of my ears but guess what I've never been happier than in my work as a farmer. I look like Hagrid and am covered in placenta but nothing cheers me up more than a field of healthy sheep and lambs.

Love this post

Do you think that of any intelligent woman who has children and doesn't work outside the home?

It is a choice that she has made though. She was not forced to marry William.

DewinDwl · 15/03/2023 19:23

From the outside it looks like she's not that comfortable with public speaking. Also maybe her foreign languages aren't great? Although that's not a skill that's highly valued in some circles.

IMO her academic qualifications are good and an A in maths at A level is impressive - this, a country in which women and girls are underrepresented in STEM. I wonder what she could have achieved if she had gone for a career. Whatever she has going for her, the press and society in general seem to value her for her appearance and discretion above anything else.

I find it all a bit depressing but I hope she's happy with her life choices.

If living off the husband when DC are school age , yes I do view it negatively and it's a negative influence on daughters.

BansheeofInisherin · 15/03/2023 20:16

I find it really depressing that Kate ranks so highly on regular lists of the most admired women in the world, along with people like Marie Curie,Venus Williams and Hillary Clinton, when she's done fuck all.

In answer to pp, I don't think women necessarily need to be high achievers or be academic, if they don't want to. But I don't think they need to be admired as role models either, when all they do is smile, wave and stay thin.

JuliesBicycle · 15/03/2023 20:20

@BansheeofInisherin I agree. Marrying a rich man and having nice hair is not an achievement to be admired.
Fine if that is what she wants to do, but not something for others to admire.

I think Kate would be a very good conversationalist. She can do multiple sports, has an art degree, travels extensively & has a very interesting life.

Kate does work.
Part time in the family business 😁.
She's also, it appears, a woman who enjoys and priorities being a mother.

It's not on the level of Marie Curie I'll give you that 🤣 but that seems like a perfectly acceptable aspiration for a young women: loving husband, part time meaningful work, & time to enjoy being a mother.
Lots of women would like that (without the public scrutiny).

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 15/03/2023 20:53

I think she has an art history degree. I can't see Kate as an art school kid.

coffeeginandkindness · 15/03/2023 21:16

Being interesting?
She doesn't seem like much fun tbh

BasiliskStare · 15/03/2023 21:17

@DewinDwl - I agree - she seems very nervous and not that great at public speaking , which must be hard in her "job" . DH could speak to the Hollywood bowl , ( which he never will btw ) but just something he is good at ie public speaking to an audience. . I am not. So I think Kate is good at some things and I suspect there are things which she knows she isn't so good at but has to do them.

What do you mean by accomplished and well rounded?
Its all a bit Mrs Bennett, non?
Excellent embroidery, pretty at the pianoforte and lacrosse as well
