Was there anything Kate didn't excel at?

Having read many articles Kate (pippa & James also) is so accomplished since she was tiny.
She is very sporty.. strong swimmer, excellent skier, hockey player, lacrosse, athletics, netball.. Plays piano very well & also was lead in schools drama production. Excelled at art.
It seems the Middleton's didn't do much in the way of equistrian sports?
Would love my dc to be as accomplished & well rounded. Can't afford Marlborough or any private for that matter!

Tongue firmly in cheek @CurlewKate . Then again, I don't care to be lectured to about what is and is not a feminist; and imo, no real feminist shits on the decisions other women have made for themselves about their lives.

CurlewKate · 24/02/2024 17:14

@Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar "no real feminist shits on the decisions other women have made for themselves about their lives."

I disagree. It's OK to say that other women are making anti feminist choices.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 17:28

Well that rather depends on your definition of an "anti feminist choice" doesn't it. Some feminists think putting themselves on Porn Hub/Only Fans is a feminist choice. Others think getting married is an anti feminist choice. Some think making an active decision to stay at home and look after your children is anti feminist. Others think propping up the patriarchy through working within male created industry structures is feminist. There isn't a homogenous group of "feminists" and there isn't one way of "feminist" thinking.

ToffeeTalk · 24/02/2024 19:09

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less.”

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 19:17

Some might say that there was a greater "feminist" responsibility on the shoulders of a self described feminist in her late 30s with an established career that she could pursue to inspire women of her age in her industry, to not actively give up on that career to marry a prince; to not behave like a wide eyed ingenue gazing at her incredibly average bloke like he's the second coming of Jesus; to not give up her established credentials to live a life of titled privilege over other women, only to throw it away, after 72 days of service, abandoning the massive platform afforded to her to do some good. One could say that was all less feminist than actually being a wide eyed teenager, falling in love with a prince and an idealistic future, entering the institution as a very naive young woman, but then going on to not only make the best of it, but come to dominate it and be deemed its future. Some might say.

Yes, people who don't like women to have the choice of not working and supporting their partners in traditional roles.

Feminism is the right to choose to do what you want to do, not to have to work because a bunch of mums netters get irked everytime a woman fulfills a domestic role

CurlewKate · 24/02/2024 19:37

"Feminism is the right to choose to do what you want to do,"

Up to a point. Feminism is acting in a way that supports and encourages other women. And not making life more difficult for them.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 20:36

Tell that to all the feminists who say men in frocks who identify as women are actual women. Taking women's places in sport, scholarships, awards, female only political lists, rape crisis centers, DV shelters etc, etc. Some "feminism" actively works against women and makes women's lives incredibly difficult and dangerous.

By that logic women entering the workforce - and thereby feeding into a system where 2 salaries to survive is necessary, are potentially anti-feminists as they've made life difficult for women wanting large families

I think your view of feminism is different to mine. Mine is simply pure equality between the sexes, and the right to live your life free of judgement from others (i.e. want to work or be dependent etc)

That's not feminism or anti feminism. That's capitalism.

😄We have cousins like this. Had to listen to it for years.

😄I’m dying at this comment. Me too.

Wow, I remember this thread! It was decided that one thing Kate can't do is ride horses. The shame, I know.

Downwarddog2 · 25/02/2024 10:24

Thankfully she doesn't shoot either!

Really? She won't do a sporting pheasant hunt AND doesn't ride a horse? How on earth did she get through? 😛

I'm distracted b/c I watched a doco on Fergie & Andrew (The Duke & Duchess of Disaster, quality viewing) and didn't realise Fergie could really ride. Eventing-style stuff & everything, I couldn't help but be impressed.

I also remember Pippa Middleton being pictured at a pheasant hunt with her friends, guns and dead birds. Hope they all ate loads of pheasant stew that night. Don't think that was in Pippa's Celebrate party book? 😂

JSMill · 25/02/2024 11:23

I believe Kate is allergic to horses. Fergie's dad was a polo coach wasn't her? I think she had a very horsey upbringing.

Or maybe they had peasant stew😉🤣

Fergie was (probably still us) a very competent skiier
She was perfect for the royal role on paper!

She just can’t ride - I remember reading that somewhere so they say she is allergic to horses.

A friend of mine says she is allergic to tomatoes because she doesn’t like them and it’s easier to just say she’s allergic to them.

spanieleyes · 25/02/2024 13:17

Surely, if she just can't ride, she could have learnt, there are enough members of the royal family who could have taught her. She wouldn't have to become an expert, just competent. It seems more likely that she IS allergic which is why she hasn't been able to learn!

Nobody said she can’t learn. Everybody can learn to do something with the right teacher and time.

Maybe she’s afraid of horses???

spanieleyes · 25/02/2024 15:07

Or maybe she's just allergic to them!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 25/02/2024 15:11

Or maybe she doesn’t want to. Why is riding a horse intrinsic to being a royal? Diana hated them.

CathyorClaire · 25/02/2024 21:02

Meh.

Couldn't care less why Kate doesn't, can't or won't ride. Good thing IMO.

Would be far more interested to get the lowdown on why Harold flogging his polo ponies with 'approved' spurs is marvellous. That and the lowdown on shooting a water buffalo among other alleged wildlife offences.

Dustyblue · 26/02/2024 15:13

@Downwarddog2 Crying at peasant stew.... making one here myself actually, it smells delicious. Just the veg from the garden, we can't afford guns & ammo
