Was there anything Kate didn't excel at?

Having read many articles Kate (pippa & James also) is so accomplished since she was tiny.
She is very sporty.. strong swimmer, excellent skier, hockey player, lacrosse, athletics, netball.. Plays piano very well & also was lead in schools drama production. Excelled at art.
It seems the Middleton's didn't do much in the way of equistrian sports?
Would love my dc to be as accomplished & well rounded. Can't afford Marlborough or any private for that matter!

I think she has an incredible skill in not putting a foot wrong, not saying the wrong thing, not embarrassing the crown. That is a skill in itself.

You know that is not true.

Wouldn’t it be nice if she did make mistakes?
princess Anne was thought as rude back in the day, I remember my parents talking, the queen annoyed people for not attending football (at least William does)
but these things make them seem human.
disclaimer I can’t show a source as my dear parents were queens age and long gone

Kate used to receive a lot of criticism for wardrobe malfunctions. Lots of flashing of knickers and a thong in one case.
I do not care about this. But it is not true that she has never put a foot wrong.

Depends whether you think a gust of wind blowing your skirt is due to you doing something wrong. I don't, but obviously you think differently.

JuliesBicycle · 15/03/2023 23:07

@Coxspurplepippin The Queen reportedly thought it was wrong.

Kate accidentally exposes her bare bottom.

Kate is criticised for not sewing in hem weights leading to lots of flashing incidents.

Coxspurplepippin · 15/03/2023 23:12

Not quite sure what your point is. Wind blows woman's skirt up, all of a sudden she's what? A strumpet - there's a good old fashioned term for you. Are you suggesting that Kate's behaviour is somehow questionable because of this? Is that honestly what you're saying?

JuliesBicycle · 15/03/2023 23:14

@Coxspurplepippin Why are you making things up?
I posted my comments in response to the concept that Kate is perfect and never puts a foot wrong. I said that is not true.

Coxspurplepippin · 15/03/2023 23:20

But her skirt blowing up doesn't make her 'imperfect' or 'wrong' Hmm. I'm seriously not sure what you're implying here. Is it that she's not perfect because she can't control the weather?

I've split a pair of trousers on one occasion - I don't think doing that makes me somehow lesser. I've laddered tights and tripped and fallen while perfectly sober and flashed my pants to all and sundry. Does that make me imperfect in some way? Or perhaps you understand 'putting a foot wrong' to mean literally tripping over?

Actually having a job?

JuliesBicycle · 15/03/2023 23:30

@Coxspurplepippin I am saying she did not follow Royal protocol.
I think Royal protocol is bollocks anyway. But the woman are supposed to weigh down their hems so this does not happen. Kate did not do that for quite a long time.

And that makes her imperfect and wrong?

Ay de mi.

I think Kate would be a very good conversationalist. She can do multiple sports, has an art degree, travels extensively & has a very interesting life.

She's good at sport as are a lot people not Olympic level. I don't understand why some women on MN seem to be in awe of her. Kate's achievements thinness , nice hair, waving ,marrying the heir to the throne (rich man) and producing heir's. There are lots of other women out there who have achieved amazing things and have independently earned wealth. It's so archaic and victorian that her and Pippa are seen as good role models for marrying rich husbands.

My DH is a higher earner but I still work it was never my entire aim to bag a rich man.

Aganta · 15/03/2023 23:59

CBA to read 10 pages but she's never earned very much has she.

what you will never understand is that Diana fans (I am not one) are well aware of her faults and love her anyway.

Why will I "never" understand Diana fans, they demonstrate their enthusiasm often enough. Same with fandom about H&M, (who are far worse than Diana)

Both attitudes are mainly used to point up much worse the "standard" royals are.

Plitvice · 16/03/2023 09:14

Kate and Pippa were both both bright enough to succeed in a wide range of fields. Neither were ever exceptional scholars and more passionate about competitive sports over academics. If they wanted to be the glossy haired wives of wealthy men (which I think they did) then that balance was about right. Their leanness and muscle tone is impressive. I came across a photo of Kate, Sophie, Camilla and Meghan walking together (think it was around the time of the Queen's funeral). Kate was the only one who didn't have a matronly shape or badly processed hair so her ongoing efforts to mainain that look do pay off (genetics plays an enormous part too).

'Excelling' or being 'great at' is being scouted for the club or playing for the county (or country like Zara).

'Excelling' at art is putting out pieces for auction like Charles and Zara.

A prep level piano skills as you would have it from the school kids at the town hall is not 'excelling' at anything either.

At Marlborough sport is compulsory around 2 afternoons per weeks. Then there is the weekend matches. For Shell/Remove extra curricular like music etc. is also compulsory.
By your logic everyone at that and most boarding schools 'excels'.

Concentrating on only 3 subjects with a tutor (possibly above the regular tutor at hall/toys/study time will surely make anyone pass, surprised it's not all A*.

As for KM 'concentrating on her childcare'. She has an army of nannies (they even have their own house, right next to her 'cottage'). Plus you could tell from her pancake day, she has never held a spatula or pan in her life, despite the PR nonsense that she is such a brilliant 'homemaker'.

Yes, it was reported plenty of times that HMQE was strict about weighing down hems.

She has never had a proper job except working for her mum and her mum's friend in internship.

Stop trying to big up a mediocre person.

BansheeofInisherin · 16/03/2023 09:54

If we are going to admire someone's leannness and muscle tone-why?- can we admire Serena Williams for playing and winning Grand Slams after giving birth instead? Rather than a mannequin?

I don't think Kate personally is mediocre. What I think is that the institution won't allow her or anyone in it to be anything more. So it's not her fault, as such, and none of my posts are aimed at her personally. Just the idea of a princess at all in 2023.

Btw, I have lived in 6 countries since childhood- expatriate-so travelled a lot, and have a law degree, plus some published books. I can make interesting conversation. I was very slim until I was 42, as slim as Kate. So bloody what? Honestly, the fawning.

sydneysunset · 16/03/2023 09:58

The bitterness and jealousy on this thread is palpable.

it’s one thing for posters to criticise Meghan Markle, who has actively damaged others with her behaviour- but Kate is someone is just getting on with their life and doing their best to fulfil a very difficult and high profile role.

successive opinion polls have confirmed that the overwhelming majority of people respect and approve of both Kate and William.

Weirdly, it’s only on Mumsnet and small corners of Twitter where hardcore Harry and Meghan fans pursue their strange bitter vendetta against Kate. I’m almost convinced that some of these posters are on the Sussex payroll, as has been suggested before

I’m not a massive fan of Kate or the RF and don’t agree that she’s a genius or in fact exceptional at anything.

But if you compare Kate and William for example (who undeniably had access to all the educational support that money can buy), Kate did better than he did in harder A levels. She was also one of the top sporting performers in a school where everyone had exactly the same sporting opportunities/advantages. She seems like she was a hard worker at school and had some sporting talent.

No, it doesn’t make her exceptional but I don’t think it’s fair to imply she was distinctly average either.

Plitvice · 16/03/2023 10:00

What a silly post. One woman can admire another for whatever reason she likes. Nobody wondered about your achievements which you seem proud to share. It is about Kate who does her job well and looks the most presentable out of all her royal peers.

Plitvice · 16/03/2023 10:06

I am a self-proclaimed pancake making expert (I am not talking about the doughy British ones either). I can confirm that the first pancake in a batch is usually less than 100% perfect compared to the later ones.

If you want a PR stunt to fail, then give someone a new pan and a new jug of batter.
