Was there anything Kate didn't excel at?

Having read many articles Kate (pippa & James also) is so accomplished since she was tiny.
She is very sporty.. strong swimmer, excellent skier, hockey player, lacrosse, athletics, netball.. Plays piano very well & also was lead in schools drama production. Excelled at art.
It seems the Middleton's didn't do much in the way of equistrian sports?
Would love my dc to be as accomplished & well rounded. Can't afford Marlborough or any private for that matter!

Diana, for all her faults, perceived and otherwise, did make a difference. She wasn’t afraid to make waves and do what she was passionate about. She also had young kids and didn’t use that as an excuse.
Kate falls very far short in comparison.”

Yes - what a difference. She targeted Charles more obviously than Kate targeted William.

She made waves because of her various childhood traumas

She was passionate about other peoples husbands.

I don't think either used "young kids" as an excuse. Both seem/seemed devoted to their children.

And, as I see it, Kate shines by comparison with Diana - but she is older and brighter.
(we know where Harry got his "thick" from - Diana admitted it)

What an awful post Badger. Diana broke boundaries by working with AIDS victims when other people were terrified it was contagious.

She did a huge amount of good work.

This was said as an excuse not to ride. It was already outed as a lie somewhere else. The RF aren’t adverse to telling a few lies as we all know.

Maybe she just does not like horses?
Shame they lied though.

Oh, another thread about how incredible Kate is.

So she's decent at sports and the arts, like many people. She can't be incredible though or she would have developed more of a career path/deeper interest in these areas. She's clearly not an academic, although I doubt anyone who is would want to join the royal family anyway.

Private education can train mediocre kids to be decent in many areas and excel at exams with enough tutoring. Many have strong extracurriculars due to their privilege and nothing more. She is nothing special.

Anyone on here worshipping the royal family should get a grip and focus on making themselves a more productive member of society. Calm yourselves.

@TheVeryHungryTortoise I am not a royalist by any means but I don’t understand how praising Kate means that you’re worshipping the royal family? It shouldn’t be a race to the bottom. Praising someone’s accomplishments can only be a good thing. I don’t see why people should be overly critical over another person’s flaws. Perhaps that’s what our society needs? Instead of overlooking someone’s accomplishments, we could try to be proud of one another and give credit where it’s due? It’s not just Kate, I often see some people being hypercritical of people in the public eye, sometimes it is warranted and other times it’s not.

She was only 11? I am in total shock! She looks no different to now!

Give her her due, she did that well. Getting that accent must've been very hard when I think about how she speaks now!

She’s fantastic in that video for any age but only eleven?

I know! I didn't know that until I actually read the article which says she is 11. To be honest it's hard to believe. If I had to guess, I would've said 18 because it is school. And doesn't look much different to what she looks like now.

Happyhappyday · 15/03/2023 16:03

So much of that is just having wealthy parents and being exposed to opportunity. I am an excellent skier because my parents paid for lessons and we went skiing all the time. I played two sports at a high level because my parents drove me to all my trainings and my school had the facilities. I played an instrument for years for the same reason. I was a higher achiever academically partly because I was motivated and partly because I went to a school that supported students to get the most out of their abilities. I’ve often felt that given all the advantages of socioeconomic status, it would have been a bigger surprise if I WASN’T a high achiever.

Yes, as well as raising awareness about the landmines, and clearly being interested in, and having an affinity with people, especially younger children. Diana made the most of her natural qualities, where it made a real, tangible difference to people. That is actually worth admiring imo.

Mommymoments · 15/03/2023 16:04

@Isuppose it says the school was St Andrews Pangbourne in Berkshire. Kate went there for primary before Down House & then onto Malborough after the bullying at Downe House. So yes she would be 11.

Shame they lied though.

She probably had to have a ‘reason’ to explain why she didn’t ride.

A friend says she’s allergic to tomatoes because it’s easier than saying she doesn’t like them.

AcornGreen · 15/03/2023 16:07

She failed at marrying a faithful husband.

Well-plays the piano to Grade 3 standard-not sure that counts as "very well"....

Samcro · 15/03/2023 16:09

i like Kate and think she is reasonably intelligent.
but I do always wonder why people mention role model when speaking about her. I don't get how anyone in the RF can be a role model.

She was admired by many until Charles and Camilla upped their PR campaign and some people fell for it.

LadyKenya · 15/03/2023 16:18

@Isuppose I find it rather surprising how so many people seem to have overlooked all the positive things that she did, and instead focus on her failings all the time. She was treated appallingly by her husband, carrying on with his mistress, who will now be Queen, even though the public were told, iirc would not be the case. Diana was the only member of the Rf I ever had any interest in, back in the day.

derxa · 15/03/2023 16:27

People on MN are obsessed with academic achievement and people being 'role models. And I'm going to speak up for Harry. He's not academic but I think he's intelligent. He had enough intelligence to pursue a career he loved- the Army.
As for Kate, I think she's perfectly happy with her life choices. What a nasty snide thread.
I've got qualifications coming out of my ears but guess what I've never been happier than in my work as a farmer. I look like Hagrid and am covered in placenta but nothing cheers me up more than a field of healthy sheep and lambs.

Why do you have to have a reason for not liking horses? Riding is not compulsory.
And why say you are allergic to tomatoes because you do not like them?
I do not understand the lying for no real reason.

This thread isn't about Harry. Kate's accomplishments have nothing to do with Harry ffs.

Because in their circles, everyone rides.

It’s like saying you can’t drive a car for us. If you can’t drive, you have to have a reason or people look at you oddly.
And yes I know some people don’t drive, and there are better examples to use, but I’m trying to pick something that the majority do.

Roussette · 15/03/2023 16:41

Because in their circles, everyone rides.

Everyone shoots too. Doesn't mean to say you can't have principles and not do it.

My point is that people make life choices to suit them. BTw Kate is my favourite royal. I think she's fab.

Sounds like the set are not very intelligent if you have to make up an excuse about why you do not ride instead of it just being accepted it is not your thing.

InvincibleInvisibility · 15/03/2023 16:44

I took my A levels the same year as Kate. AAB is a good result but nothing exceptional, especially from a private school.

I know dozens of students at my state 6th form college who got 5As, or 4As 1 B. Only taking 3 A levels at that time was a sign of being not particularly academic. All the academic ones took 4 or 5.

I also know many students who did 5 A levels and also continued sport and music (often both) to a high level. Although neither were done with the college, only outside clubs/lessons/orchestras.

StephanieSuperpowers · 15/03/2023 16:44

This is so weird. Grown women fangirling over a normal woman. Connection with royalty has a very curious effect, magnifying the normal to the exceptional. It's really extraordinary.

That is irrelevant. Shooting is not comparable with riding or driving a car.
