Was there anything Kate didn't excel at?

Having read many articles Kate (pippa & James also) is so accomplished since she was tiny.
She is very sporty.. strong swimmer, excellent skier, hockey player, lacrosse, athletics, netball.. Plays piano very well & also was lead in schools drama production. Excelled at art.
It seems the Middleton's didn't do much in the way of equistrian sports?
Would love my dc to be as accomplished & well rounded. Can't afford Marlborough or any private for that matter!

Throw enough money at someone and they will be "accomplished". Have enough friends who also have loads of money thrown at them and they will say how "accomplished" someone is. "Accomplished" is a word the upper classes use to describe "average" without appearing average. If she were truly good at pretty much anything nobody would need to describe her at all - she'd have proof. Not a fan of the monarchy or their hangers on, but Princess Anne is "accomplished" at equestrian eventing - her gold medals prove that. Kate just plays a piano....

Kate is more known for her sportiness than her piano playing.

Why are we all oooohing and ahhhing at how exceptional she is? She went to private school, she's an all rounder !
I know someone just as exceptional from state school and who have worked their arse off and are now very high up within an international organisation earning £150K. And younger than KM. (And others too)

What a waste to be so exceptional like KM and to do absolutely zilch with it.

Lackersknackers · 15/03/2023 13:05

My husband is like this. He is really good at anything he tries but is also really lazy. It’s infuriating.

Hintofreality · 15/03/2023 13:05

Pegging

RedDoughnut · 15/03/2023 13:06

She's never held down a job

Never had to juggle work and childcare and cooking tea.

She's no role model

Ooh I get a drink too. I bet it wouldn't take long for someone to come on a 'positive' Kate thread and criticise her. Lots of things have changed on MN over the years but certain posters can always be relied upon Hmm

Fancysauce · 15/03/2023 13:09

Having a job?
Earning her own money?

If you mean me, cheers! 🍷

Seriously though, I haven't criticised her, I just say it is not exceptional for a public school education when I know others who have done even better without that hoik up.

And we really shoulldn't be revering her as something outstandingly special.

She is certainly genetically advantaged in her looks, general sporting ability and general intelligence.

Maybe not exceptional in any of them, but the combination of them all together does make her impressive.

And then the circumstantial advantage of being born into an aspirational family with money which provided all the opportunities for her talents to be identified and honed.

She really has had an abundance of advantages. Genetic and circumstances.

She is known for one thing only. Marrying well. Unless she has forgotten to mention her Olympic medals???

It's a fairly typical Scottish University. Plenty of mediocre people from my Scottish state school went - it wasn't considered any more difficult to get into that Aberdeen, Glasgow etc. On MN its considered a Scottish Oxford or Cambridge. AAB is actually better than I thought she did, but it's certainly not incredible, particularly from a private school.

I thought St Andrews is seen as a bit of a safe, respectable (and fun) university for people who have been taught well enough to get decent AL results but aren’t actually terribly bright or self motivated enough to cope with a very academic and competitive university.

LadyKenya · 15/03/2023 13:20

It remains to be seen what she will do with all these exceptional qualities that she supposedly has.

Mommymoments · 15/03/2023 13:21

Pippa went to Edinburgh uni, is this more elite than St Andrews?

Pressed too soon ……..so I wonder why she decided to change her well earned place at Edinburgh for a place in St Andrews.

Err no it doesn't.
She's going to be The Queen.

All her qualities: looks, intelligence, physical ability, personality bagged her the future king.

That's pretty exceptional.

BeatricePortinari · 15/03/2023 13:26

If it's true that she set out to bag Prince William, that shows pretty exceptional levels of Machiavellian planning and success.

That in itself would be impressive.

She's not likeable (according to William's friends... maybe she was just shy?), and is/was lazy (noted by the queen). Her cousin said she's not bothered in things that don't have anything immediately to do with her. She doesn't research her causes or her visits. She doesn't practise speaking because she can't be bothered (it's not lack of time or resources).

This is weird. While personally, I wouldn't say Kate "excels" at a lot of things, she's clearly a well rounded, relatively smart, hard worker who loves sport and has some natural athleticism that she's also put effort into.

As for these statements above, I just haven't seen any evidence of this. Her not being hugely good friends with William's friends - well, if anything, that speaks to her good sense as it was his friends who were insulting her and her mother pre engagement. I wouldn't want much to do with them either.

There's never been any suggestion she's lazy at all and the Queen did the thing where she awarded her that personal award/recognition that's completely at her discretion (and she didn't hand it out easily either). Arguably she could absolutely have done more royal duties earlier in her marriage but it's fairly obvious that she wasn't sitting around eating bonbons - she has hobbies, focuses on her children, takes part in things etc.

As for the researching her causes and visits... I've seen people complain that her visits are often quite short but the one thing I see and read about over and over again is that she's well informed, knows what's going on and understands the issues.

So this all does sound a bit sour grapes frankly.

Fair enough, I thought posters were discussing her educational qualities mainly, not her looks. Then again that is all some people seem quite hung on.

🤣😂

Nothing to do with the child being royal of course!

Thank you!

JuliesBicycle · 15/03/2023 13:35

@SavBlancTonight Interesting. I keep reading that Kate refuses to prepare or research for visits.

SolarEcrisp · 15/03/2023 13:35

I’m afraid she’s not very good at the piano. As anyone who can play and has seen her play will tell you.

Which is fine, why should she be, it’s not her job, but it’s a bit sad when so much is made of her ability to poorly play a piece that any 8 year old who’s been learning a couple of years could.

JuliesBicycle · 15/03/2023 13:36

That is why they recorded the piano playing at the carol service rather than doing it live. Makes sense, no one wants to embarrass her.
