Charles gets all the inheritance so will William.

Reported in the press , I'm starting to see why Harry might be a little annoyed. He's still a spoilt brat and no excuse for everything he's done but still I'm starting to understand a bit of the bitterness. Charles has inherited all his mother's estate 650 million tax free monarch to monarch. None of the Queen's other children have received a cut. The queen's other children will have to see if Charles decides to give them anything. Perhaps Phillip left them something and it didn't all go to the Queen?.

I'm starting to see where the spares anger and the supposed genetic pain comes from. You are entirely beholden to the monarch and the heir. They have to follow the rules and protocol but don't get the massive wealth the heir does and you spend your life being lesser because of your order of birth. One day William will get the lot of the massive fortune and in charge of the purse strings. It's really an unfair system the heir and spares thing. I thought things like inheritance would be fairer. It's an archaic system for 2023.

He's still a massive twat but I understand a little why he has a massive chip on his shoulder.

(Andrew) might have a pliant Gulf Sheik who would let him set up shop (rather like Idi Amin in Saudi Arabia) in some modest gaffe ...

Frankly I'd be amazed if he doesn't have such a connection to make the most of

It's all very well folk saying that nobody will want to know him, but that's among decent people and sadly there are plenty of the other kind around who he's been willing to deal with (Epstein, Weinstein, Saif Gaddafi, Tarek Kaituni, Ilham Aliyev, etc, etc.)

Not singling gulf sheiks out for this BTW; they exist everywhere, but that's the example you used so ...

.....So he blackmails Chaz say for 100 million and says I will eff off and live quietly elsewhere and stop embarrassing you. A deal ? Could happen.

I think Andrew’s problem is that to be attractive to the sheik’s and crooks and the likes he has to have the ear of ‘important’ people.

So the monarch here. Politicians at events.

If he’s completely cut off from the British establishment (for want of a bette phrase) and has isolated his children from them then he’s useless to them as he can’t make introductions, recommendations or anything useful.

His stock dropped when his mother died. It’ll be worthless if his brother cuts him off.

Well yes, but that brings us back full circle to whether Charles can afford to (and I don't mean financially)

At the risk of sporting with understatement it's all a bit of a mess, and hardly surprising they're doing their best to keep W&K's image squeaky clean

Well Charles has been acceptable to having large chunks of cash plonked for his foundations and BAE sells billions to the Gulf States. So Andrew acts as the discrete go between Gulf royalty and Charles all deniable, all behind closed doors and is no longer an embarrassment to the Crown. Andrew exiled to Bahrain headlines and everyone's a winner so to speak. Charles jokingly says to younger brother "well you did like them young Andrew, mores the pity, but I hope you're happy in your new place., it’s for the best, now if only I could sort out Harry so easily..."

Gosh @vera99 you (and your imagination) are on form today🤣🤣

Shock horror! The king has lots of money! Let’s hope he doesn’t give any to the parasites.

JamPearl · 12/03/2023 16:03

Doesn't leave him short of money does it

DollyTubb · 12/03/2023 20:18

The queen left everything to Charles because then it's exempt of inheritance tax; it's a 'royal' thing. I guess Charles then divvies it out, and there's more to go round.

QEII was incredibly parsimonious and me me me when it came to wealth. That written, I think she gave her three younger children some inheritance while they were alive in order to avoid taxes. Bought Anne’s house. Paid for the building of Sunninghill Park. Paid Andrew’s part of the Royal Lodge/ Crown Estate fix up costs and lease. Ditto the Edward and Bagshot fix up costs and lease.

Trouble is, she didn’t realize how awful Charles is. He’s acting out his childhood rage about Andrew being Mummy’s fav and Edward being Papa’s fav.

QEII expected Charles to keep Andrew and Edward on as working royals their entire lives. As she’s done for Alexandra, Duke of Kent, and secretly Prince Michael of Kent. That would have covered the upkeep and staff costs for RL and Bagshot the rest of their lives.

She didn’t leave them enough to cover those costs themselves, because she expected Charles to foist those costs off on the taxpayers. The idea that Charles would keep all the SG funding for himself didn’t occur to her.

For someone who doesn't actually know any of these people, you seem to have enormous insight into their thinking.

Internet 'research', a curious mind and a C&P ability that would put the infamous Clav to shame...

The daily Mail and daily express are not “research”

Queen Mother left them something too, and reportedly more to Harry than William.

No she did not. It all went to the Queen. It is how they do it.

That is not a shock. But it sets up a dysfunctional dynamic where they all suck up to the heir so they keep their houses and income.

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 00:33

She didn’t leave them anything. She set up trust funds for her great grandchildren during her lifetime.

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 01:47

"In 1994 the Queen Mother placed two-thirds of her money fortune - an estimated £19m - into a trust fund for her great grandchildren, a gamble, at the age of 94, that she would live for another seven years and so avoid paying 40%. That hurdle was cleared last year."

www.theguardian.com/uk/2002/apr/03/queenmother.monarchy2

Does not say which children and how much.

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 01:48

Queen Mum had 12 great grandchildren.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 13/03/2023 01:51

It was an interesting gamble to do it at 94 - the chances of living another 7 years aren’t the highest.

I often wondered if it was to stop her blowing even more on horses and phenomenal staff costs. She was reportedly in debt by the time she died.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 13/03/2023 02:53

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 01:48

Queen Mum had 12 great grandchildren.

Only 9 were born by the time of her death - Peter, Zara, William, Harry, Beatrice, Eugenie, Samuel, Arthur and Charles

Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Louise and James Wessex/Edinburgh we’re all born after.

Samuel, Arthur and Charles we’re all born after 1994, but presumably would have been added to the trust. Margarita was born just two months after QEQM died.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 13/03/2023 02:55

No idea why were keeps correcting to we’re- apologies

CanOfPop · 13/03/2023 03:03

Depends if the Trust was written to include future grandchildren after she died. Surely that would be usual?

CathyorClaire · 13/03/2023 09:52

This is wealth to be managed, not for spending.

Yes.

They much prefer to leave the spending to us.

I'm not sure it would have mattered; doubtless a way would have been found for them to keep all the money Hmm

I'm not certain on this one, but wasn't it claimed the Queen Mum had gifted all her jewellery to the Queen during her lifetime, only for it to be found in her own home after her death (and conveniently ignored)?

Serenster · 13/03/2023 11:04

Setting up trusts for your children and grandchildren, and formally gifting them your property even if you also use it are very common forms of estate planning, even for those of far more modest means than the Royal family. There was a case in the paper just last week of a woman who gifted her daughter her house, and continued to live in it, then was fuming when her daughter threw her out after they fell out.

(The gifting bit is always a gamble, too, due to the seven years rule. The 10th Duke of Devonshire transferred all his property into a charitable trust in 1946, aged 50. He then died unexpectedly just 4 years later, meaning the whole gift was clawed back and death duties of 80% had to be paid)
