I'm starting to see where the spares anger and the supposed genetic pain comes from. You are entirely beholden to the monarch and the heir. They have to follow the rules and protocol but don't get the massive wealth the heir does and you spend your life being lesser because of your order of birth. One day William will get the lot of the massive fortune and in charge of the purse strings. It's really an unfair system the heir and spares thing. I thought things like inheritance would be fairer. On the inheritance thing (and how do we know when I thought royal wills were secret?) they can't very well split up what's vested in the crown; there's also the avoidance of IHT with leaving the lot to the heir, but that still leaves the private fortune which may or may not have been shared around

They shouldn't have extra children just to ensure the LOS carries on. The idea of primogeniture is archaic. The spares are brought up from birth knowing they are less important than the eldest sibling. It's like if I chose to give all my wealth to my eldest DC and the younger would have to go cap in hand. I would feel intensely uncomfortable if my eldest sibling was deemed as more important than me just because they were born first.
