Will Sussex be their last names? How does that work?

Except Archie and Lili only received their titles last week and have been a focus since birth.

No they didn’t. They automatically became Prince and Princess on the Queen’s death. And they already had titles, Earl and Lady that they could have used. Last week was the first time their parents decided to use their titles for them.

This is how quickly Charles changed titles.

Also (not specifically to you smiley) MM did not expect Archie to be Prince while HMQE was alive, she quoted the patens and said there were talks they would be changed specifically for him. And that was apparent when Charles took over and did not change their titles automatically till (lets face it) public pressure and the Sussexes using the titles. The titles were supposed to be changed automatically when Charles was changing his own and others titles.

Other royals are also in the limelight with selling family pics/ Jungles/ Podcasts etc. Yet no one talks about their children.

'The House of Lords only serve themselves and should be first to go.'

Obvious you haven't a clue what the HOL do.

Please do enlighten us.

He didn’t have to “change” their titles. They just got them as soon as the Queen died because he hadn’t amended anything to prevent this happening. Like he just became King the moment the Queen died. Why are you insisting he had to “give” them titles they already had or “change”their titles? Granted it wasn’t on the website, but that was allegedly because their parents hadn’t confirmed whether they would use them, which seems entirely reasonable given that they had not used their previous titles of Earl and Lady.

Coxspurplepippin · 13/03/2023 09:14

It would take a while. Perhaps have a look at some of the Lords debates. There is a collaborative atmosphere in the Lords far different to that in the Commons. Have a look at the paper on social care a lords committee finalised recently.

I actually think it would be a good idea if all the titles were bestowed by the monarch for the lifetime of the person, and not passed down, returning to the Crown on that person's death, as Charles has set up the DoE to do.

And titles should only be given to working members of the Royal family, and to life peers in the House of Lords, who are actually serving the monarch and the British public.

If you choose to step down from that job or are fired (hello Andrew) then the titles should be taken away too.

Great idea

MollyRover · 13/03/2023 09:38

@x2boys, it's a fine nickname, but it's a nickname. I didn't actually know the queen so I'm not sure what her tastes were or how tasteful she was. I don't see how thinking the children's names are silly actually attacks the children personally, since they haven't actually chosen their own names?

I'm actually in agreement with Harry and Meghan about how awful the institution is but their behaviour (interview, documentary, book) is extremely immature and embarrassing. Using titles and attention seeking names just confirms this.

Samcro · 13/03/2023 09:43

im not keen on the "name" lillibet (don't like august as a name either) but Archie is fine.

I agree.
I don't doubt that the firm has a lot of issues, probably more than we hear about, but they could leave, be private (and wealthy) citizens, and raise their family away from the baggage of the firm.
The hypocrisy running through their actions is shaping public opinion.

Coxspurplepippin I'd like to see reform of the Lords where those sitting have to have an established area of expertise, not that they did some political favours. There's some very knowledgeable people in the Lords who do a good job of scrutinising the government of the day. I used to be in favour of abolishing the Lords, but now see they're an essential part of scrutinising governments who like to try to break international law and remove human rights.

Mounbatten-Windsor is for the children not in direct line of the throne .
To appease Philip .

“Appease”????!!!

It's the "Harrison" part of the name I think is silly. "Archie" is a lovely name.

LolaSmiles, I agree with this - there are some asses in the hol, but many incredibly knowledgeable people .

@YetMoreNewBeginnings that teaches me not to proof read what I'm posting 😁though my excuse is that I was half asleep.

I agree with @x2boys 🙋‍♀️
Although not my taste (although Lilibet is sweet & I've only gone off Archie as the only Archie I know is a pita), my opinion on the choice of Archie & Lilibet as the Sussex children's names is irrelevant as not my baby, not my name choice.

Its entirely up to Meghan & Harry, Kate & William & every other parents what they call their child although from what I understand the late Queen did have a bit of an input but that may have been more in so of choosing George & Charlotte's name with them being in direct succession of the monarchy but even so K&W did not have to go with what the Queen suggested. For all we know the Queen might have been privately thinking boring can't we have something a bit more unusual like Olga or Ferdinand, or maybe thinking how outrageous the children should be named after Philip & myself.

They are not really attention seeking though are they ,you could argue August is far dafter, although people in here won't as they like Eugenie ,Archie wouldn't be my choice but as he's not my child ,that fine I know a fair few little Archies of
there is just absolutely no need to start on the children..

I have certainly read that Victoria expected all her male descendants to have Alfred in their names after his untimely death, but that may be apocryphal!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/03/2023 11:44

I think auto correct has turned Albert into Alfred @Serenster 🙋‍♀️ (that's me waving hello btw)

And didn't Victoria demand/expect all females have Victoria in their name?

letthemalldoone · 13/03/2023 11:55

Lilibet isn’t an actual name though. Mind you reading some of the girl’s’ names people here love it could have been worse! At least the prospect of a Prince August is low!!

LadyVictoriaSponge · 13/03/2023 12:08

No one is starting on the children don’t be silly, people are allowed to comment on a Prince and Princess of the UK’s names they are now public figures I’m afraid by choosing to use titles, their parents have put them in the firing line now forever, if you are getting upset now about any negativity you had better brace yourself for when they grow up. Anyway for balance I was disappointed in Kate and Williams choice of names apart from Louis which I love and he really suits it, I find the names George and Charlotte pleasant but a bit dull. You have made a comment on the name August being daft by the way…..don’t start on the children!

According to Wikipedia( yes I know!) Lillibet or Lilibet is a English and Welsh feminine name often used as a nickname for Elizabeth ,
A couple of generations ago girls called Margaret and Mary would often be called Molly,or Polly as nicknames now these names are used as names in their own right similar with John/ Jack
Again Lillibet, wouldn't be my choice but she's not my child ,and it is a name ,a name you might not like but a name never the less .

sydneysunset · 13/03/2023 12:15

August is a perfectly sensible, traditional name!

Only because Eugenie used it ,if Harry and Meghan had used it there would have been thread after thread ridiculing it such is this topic .

Yes in Germany, the Duke of Saxe-Merseburg-Zörbig and the Prince of Hohenlohe-Öhringen were both called August and The King of Poland back in the day.

So what? Have you never ventured onto the baby names section? People have opinions on names, get over it.

I'm merely pointing out the hypocrisy, whatever Harry and Meghan had named their children peop!e on this topic would find fault with it because it's Harry and Meghan, they could have named them John and Mary and people would still have had pop, because it's Harry and Meghan .

im not sure how far down the line it would go, but it was said that the Queen vetoed Annabel as a name for one of the York girls

Obviously they’ve never actually confirmed it, but the story ran quite a bit when they were young.
