In order to honour Edward’s 59th birthday

No one visited

But surely that’s been adequately covered as a topic? Is anyone trying to claim otherwise?

Not only did their father have a double barrelled name (Bowes-Lyon), their mother had a quadruple barrelled name - I didn't know they existed (Hepburn-Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis) 😂

I've come across someone with a triple barrelled name recently and I thought that was the height of poshness.

mixedrecycling · 11/03/2023 16:40

If they had done the whole 'give the mother and father's surname to the children' they would have had a sextuple barrelled surname!

Roussette · 11/03/2023 16:43

Triple barrelled is a bit naff to me!

Another royal thread ruined by the same bloody poster.

Indeed

And who is 'the same bloody poster'?

OutOfChocolate · 11/03/2023 18:42

@Roussette Naughty. You were only supposed to say - isn't that wonderful! So well deserved. So hard working. And Sophie looks wonderful.
Practice your cap doffing in the mirror.

The thread meandered. No one is in charge of a thread, that is what happens. If I'm 'that bloody poster' I will wear that badge with pride 😂🤣

MrsFinkelstein · 11/03/2023 19:44

Well, that was an initially really interesting and informative thread that was thoroughly derailed by the usual pro-Harry & Meghan posters to find an ever increasingly tenous stick to criticise the RF with.

Any chance of getting back on topic?

Foreversearch · 11/03/2023 19:56

Will Edward get to wear the coronet Prince Philip wore when the Queen was crowned?

I am really looking forward to seeing all the fabulous jewels, coronets, tiara’s etc. and interested in who gets to wear which pieces from the Crown Jewels and family jewels.

Roussette · 11/03/2023 19:56

Oh do stop it. Someone brought up about Prince Richard, and posters responded accordingly. That is what threads do. Sorry to tell you that.

What is that to do with H&M? I haven't mentioned them on here. You might have done, I don't know.

And what is there to say about Edward and the new DofE?

OK. Back on topic. What else is there to say? What is informative about an announcement of Edward becoming DofE? Any more? I'm all ears and will respond accordingly with no mention of Bowes Lyons.

That would be interesting if he did. I would like to see it. I wonder if they will have the men as "dressed up" though, as its only William who is doing the traditional kneeling & pledging fealty.

I'm looking

Roussette · 11/03/2023 20:01

No silk breeches I hear!

MrsFinkelstein · 11/03/2023 20:01

Sorry, don't know why that happened. FFS, my phone keeps glitching when I'm trying to post

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what tiaras get a turn out the vault. Hoping for some rarely seen ones.

Foreversearch · 11/03/2023 20:01

I’m not sure but it would be a shame if they didn’t all put their coronets on.

Foreversearch · 11/03/2023 20:02

@MrsFinkelstein definitely.

Roussette · 11/03/2023 20:02

This thread should be put in a 'coronation' thread I feel.

That was weird Finkelstein! I though my laptop had gone weird!

Foreversearch · 11/03/2023 20:04

Why it’s about what coronet the new Duke of Edinburgh will wear, if any.

Roussette · 11/03/2023 20:06

Goodness me. Do the men wear crowns too?

I imagine a coronet as being a mini crown

MrsFinkelstein · 11/03/2023 20:07

Foreversearch · 11/03/2023 20:01

Yeah, it's all the old fashioned pomp and circumstance I'm really interested in.

A pp had mentioned earlier why Edward wasn't made a Duke at his wedding - apparently he was offered, but he chose Earl of Wessex as he was a big fan of the character in Shakespeare In Love. I'm assuming he was told he'd get DoE in time.

I'm glad he's been announced, timing makes sense and it's not been "lost" in amongst the funeral and then the coronation. Obviously planned as they were in Edinburgh and the big official Palace announcement.

They had some stupid moments early on, but he & Sophie have quietly just put their heads down and worked since then. Their children seem happy and pretty down to earth. I've read that Sophie became very close to QEII in the last several years.

My phone keeps glitching and putting in random big spaces when I'm typing. This time it obviously decided to just go ahead and post when I was desperately trying to backspace it all.

Foreversearch · 11/03/2023 20:10

Yes, there was a point in the Queens coronation when the dukes all put their coronets on at the same time. They were also wearing robes, an amazing sight.

Fellsidefeather · 11/03/2023 20:10

Roussette · 11/03/2023 15:25

Exactly! I almost feel I knew more about these sisters than the Queen did!

I knew about them a long time ago.

I’m finding this topic a little distasteful. My mother was section in the 1980s. Mental health issues of any kind were not dealt with at all well in the 1980s was my personal experience. My aunts - my mother’s sisters - never felt able to visit my mother during the many months my mother was sectioned. we even took our dog once a week to see her, as she was in a long, long time. No one ever supported me to deal with having a mother with psychosis who went undiagnosed for years because no-one believed my Dad till it got very, very bad. I don’t judge my aunts or the people who if they commented on it at all it was to tell me how lucky I was that my Dad hadn’t scarpered and abandoned my Mum and us.

If the queen ever got personally involved then I would image great lengths would have been made to keep that involvement private, in not small part to stop these poor people becoming a pawn and a tool for people’s agendas against the Queen and TRF.

Roussette · 11/03/2023 20:13

I appreciate your post Fellsidefeather and Flowers to you. How hard that must have been
