The royal family

Petition for H&M to give up titles

Namechangethisevening · 10/03/2023 07:11

Just wondering if there is a petition asking for M, H and their children to give up their royal titles? I once thought quite highly of H. Those times are long long gone, along with his and his family's respect for and presence in the UK. I want H&M to have nothing further to do with the UK royal family, seeing as they want nothing more to do with us except when it benefits them.

I was just wondering if a petition has started for them to have their titles removed and if anyone could link me??

Thanks

Being a worldwide laughing stock is not the same as every single person worldwide is laughing as well you know Rousette.
I aware that you don't find Harry's frost bitten todger hilarious.

I realise this doesn't suit your narrative but that's your problem lol.

OutOfChocolate · 10/03/2023 20:04

People really do not understand monarchy do they?
The whole point is that titles and power and wealth are inherited. It has nothing to do with merit.

Blip · 10/03/2023 20:07

The point is that the king can do whatever he wants so can strip others of their titles if he likes

The king can't strip peerages. That has to be done by Parliament. The king can strip HRH/princely titles.

Eh? Your said worldwide, not me!

It might rankle, but they do have support out there.

The Princess of Wales is the only one, who can use her BIRTH NAME.

She still can’t use her birth name.

Shes HRH The Princess of Wales.

No Catherine anywhere in the title until she’s Queen.

Are you saying Catherine, Princess of Wales is incorrect then? Because it isn’t as far as I’m concerned and obviously an HRH. Eg Encyclopaedia Britannica www.britannica.com/biography/Catherine-princess-of-Wales. As I say, I get she would be Princess William and we only said Princess Diana as a shortcut.

If the couple divorce, Catherine will retain her title of princess, thus why I say she is a princess in her own right now via her husband’s peerage, whereas the title of Princess was only bestowed on Sarah Ferguson whilst she remained married to Andrew.

I get it’s not the same as being born in. I’m talking about the word princess, nothing more.

I agree that there are a few supporters left of H&M although I sympathise with them as it must be an increasingly difficult position to defend.

They are though a World Wide Laughing Stock. Having a few supporters left doesn't mean that they are not.

World wide again?

I don't find my position the slightest bit difficult.

Don;t need your sympathy. I am comfortable with my position, especially on these ridiculous MN threads.

Yes. Catherine, Princess of Wales is incorrect. She’s HRH The Princess of Wales.

She also isn’t a Princess in her own right. She’s HRH The Princess of Wales because she’s the wife of HRH The Prince of Wales.

If she divorced she may very well be Catherine, Princess of Wales in the same way Diana was, but that’s a style. Not a title. Sarah, Duchess of York and Diana, Princess of Wales were set up title wise exactly the same post divorce.

Yes, I am

Look at the official Royal Family website
www.royal.uk/the-princess-of-wales

She is referred to throughout as The Princess of Wales and as Her Royal Highness.

The pattern FirstName, Princess of Wales is the post-divorce pattern as used by Diana. If Catherine divorced then yes that is (almost certainly) her correct title then.

Whilst married, it's HRH the Princess of Wales (for both Diana and Catherine) with FirstName being no part of it

It’s funny how this debate never came up with Camilla.

She was always just HRH Duchess of Cornwall.

No attempts to shoehorn her first name in by the press or anyone.

HildasLostSock · 10/03/2023 20:22

@YetMoreNewBeginnings I wondered how legit she was in that surely any genuine "insider" with anything like a direct connection to the RF a) wouldn't be spilling tea in the first place much less dedicate a YouTube channel to it and b) would soon be cut off for doing it anyway if so I would have thought. Closest I've ever come to royalty is eating a Duchy organic biscuit though so what do I know!

Exactly.

Gossip that makes guesses then pounces on the “see I told you” when one is right.

Yes, I am already seeing references to Princess Catherine, especially in American media.

The UK approach tends to obliterate a woman's own name when she marries into the Royal Family, unlike the continental monarchies. For example, in Denmark the wife of the Crown Prince is Crown Princess Mary
and his brother's wife is Princess Marie.

I don't think there is such a petition but if you find one I'd happily sign it.

Well, seeing as no-one linked me one, I had a quick Google search! Seems there's been quite a few petitions asking for H&M titles to be removed, and one was discussed (but obvs rejected) by parliament. There's a bit of a floundering one still hanging about I will send you a link to! (which I've now signed).

So after all that you found one in a couple minutes.

EdithWeston · 10/03/2023 21:59

There's a Removal of Titles bill underway

bills.parliament.uk/bills/3289/news

It's a private members bill so unlikely to succeed. It was introduced by Rachael Maskell, Labour MP for York, basically because she didn't want any association with Andrew!

I don't think it's a good bill - I don't like the idea of giving more powers to the monarch.

I don’t find it hard either.
the amount of ridiculous threads on mn full of posts where posters have diagnosed Harry and Meghan with all kinds of made up stuff.
there are people out there like politicians that we should berate. Royal family members who won’t talk to the FBI
yet ripping apart Harry and his wife is easy. Date to not bash them, you get hounded, some people just want an echo chamber
