The royal family

Petition for H&M to give up titles

Namechangethisevening · 10/03/2023 07:11

Just wondering if there is a petition asking for M, H and their children to give up their royal titles? I once thought quite highly of H. Those times are long long gone, along with his and his family's respect for and presence in the UK. I want H&M to have nothing further to do with the UK royal family, seeing as they want nothing more to do with us except when it benefits them.

I was just wondering if a petition has started for them to have their titles removed and if anyone could link me??

Thanks

Yes my dc's Geography teacher mentioned this to the class just yesterday that it wouldn't be on BBC and they would have to see that episode on IPlayer - but most of them teens would be watching that way anyway.

That is so good to hear.

Sorry OP, I started this derail. Apologies!

Oh , I see , well that's awful, he's entitled to his opinion and I really hate this whole 'cancel culture' rubbish we seem to have now .
Nobody should be without a job or bullied for their opinions!

Also apologies to op if your reading!

Problematic. The dukedom couod be removed. But not the title of Prince and Princess .They then become Prince Harry and Princess Harry (Henry). No one would call Meghan this but unlike Catherine (and Diana), Meghan is not a princess in her own right.

The dukedom would have to be removed by Parliament. The King can remove Prince/HRH. And Catherine and Diana are/were not princesses in their own right.

I realise the dukedom or any peerage would need Parliament. As for Catherine and Diana, they are/were both Diana, Princess of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales. People called her Princess Diana for short.

A classic example of this is Princess Michael of Kent. No peerages have been bestowed on Prince Michael of Kent and this is why they use the title Prince and princess. She has to use her husband’s name as she isn’t a princess in her own right. The same would apply to Meghan if all peerages were removed.

Two ways to become a princess plus birth name: 1) be born into the Royal family, 2) marry the future king and have the title bestowed upon you.

As for Catherine and Diana, they are/were both Diana, Princess of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Diana was only that after her divorce.

Before that she was HRH The Princess of Wales, which is what Catherine is now.

This is wrong under the current practice of the British RF. The only way to be Princess Firstname is to be born into the Royal Family (a princess in their own right or "blood princess"). Currently these are:
Princess Anne
Princess Alexandra of Kent
Princess Beatrice
Princess Eugenie
Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor (although she does not use the princess title)
Princess Charlotte
Princess Lilibet.

All the others are princesses by marriage:
Princess of Wales
Duchess of Sussex
Duchess of Edinburgh
Duchess of Kent
Duchess of Gloucester
Princess Michael of Kent

Both Diana and Fergie retained a form of their titles when they divorced, but they were no longer HRH. When they were married they were also princesses by marriage.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 10/03/2023 18:18

There is one exception to what I said earlier to the "only way."

The monarch can make anyone he or she wants a prince/princess of the United Kingdom in their own right. The late Queen did this with Prince Philip when she made him a prince of the UK in 1957. George VI made him HRH The Duke of Edinburgh when he married Elizabeth, but neglected to make him a prince of the UK.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 10/03/2023 18:19

The only two recent exceptions made by the Queen were for Princess Marina and Princess Alice.

However, both were styled as HRH Princess, not officially titled as such.

Princess Marina was allowed to use that style, having been a Princess of Greece and Denmark before her marriage to the Duke of Kent, by her niece QEII when she was widowed young. It meant she didn’t have to use the Dowager Duchess title.

In the same vein QEII allowed Princess Alice to use that rather than Dowager Duchess of Gloucester when she was widowed many years later.

Viviennemary · 10/03/2023 18:22

Not going to happen. The pair need all the titles they can get.

HildasLostSock · 10/03/2023 18:22

@Namechangethisevening Lady Colin Campbell on YouTube started a petition asking/inviting Prince Harry to put his titles "in abeyance" if that's the sort of thing that you mean? Not entirely sure who she is but she kept popping up in my recommendations or whatever its called and I had a look out of curiosity. It was ages ago though maybe even a year ago now.

EdithWeston · 10/03/2023 18:24

There's one further route, the monarch can create you Prince or Princess.

Example: Prince Phillip renounced his European princedoms in order to marry the then Princess Elizabeth. For the first years of his married life he was HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. He was created a Prince of the United Kingdom in 1957

That’s actually funny.

Lady C’s title is one from a marriage in the 70’s that didn’t even last a year. they steadfastly use it to make it sound like they’d be in the know about things.

Yet someone else should drop their title

Roussette · 10/03/2023 16:57

I should add... it is the one episode and they will put it on iPlayer but they will not put it on terrestrial because of a rightwing backlash.

Sorry I'll shut up now

I'm sorry OP for the derail but the issues above are extremely important

I have mentioned before that I no longer trust the BBC and I was disappointed but unsurprised by their unbalanced reporting during mournathon .
This is relevant to the 'royals ' as the 'royals ' are the disguised ( and not so disguised ) Tories and are the representatives of unearned power and influence
We need the protection of a proper constitution not wasting time pretending it matters what made up title Charlie decides to write into being . Total distraction .

Have you seen the recent episode of BBC question time where the host interrupted a criticism of Stanley Johnson for breaking his (Johnson's) wife's nose .
'It was a one off '....
Has that been sanctioned?

David Attenborough (!) being taken off air ( iplayer only)
Gary Lineker removed

It's clear what is happening in the UK now and it's scary

vera99 · 10/03/2023 19:25

As fools' errands go, this is a good one, if only we could get Gary Lineker on board...

Princess PLUS BIRTH NAME. Not princess.

The Princess of Wales is the only one, who can use her BIRTH NAME. The others in this list must use their husband’s BIRTH NAME should they style themselves as princess.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/03/2023 19:36

To add to that, she would still be Princess William if she did it the other way around. But she is the only one to be able to style in this way because she is princess of Wales and therefore holds a princess title.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 10/03/2023 19:38

The Princess of Wales is the only one, who can use her BIRTH NAME.

She still can’t use her birth name.

Shes HRH The Princess of Wales.

No Catherine anywhere in the title until she’s Queen.

Correct

The Duke and Duchess of Hypocrisy slag off the RF but are desperate to keep their titles and embroil their children in titlehood too...
No wonder they are a worldwide laughing stock
